  1. Haha, this is good to hear! I'm glad it worked out for you! :] Have you done a speed test yet? The results can be quite positively surprising.
  2. Hello ! Why don't you just torrent it, if I may ask?
  3. @stef_wilvpn Apologies for taking so long. I recommend just picking a category, such as a region of the world and going with that. The Air client will then automatically select the best server at the time (it fluctuates). It should be said that it's hard, if not impossible perhaps, to give precise numbers for speeds. But in general, you would want to: Pick the server/region or country closest to you, because distance matters. However there's also cases where some countries simply have better infrastructure than others. Korea might have good internal networking for instance,Yet still not be a country which is good to connect to or via, speed-wise, due to how they and their various companies, like ISPs, handle connections. Then you should look at the load/state of a server, if you're picking individual servers; although I don't recommend this. Go for ones with lower amounts of load. Time of day also plays a part, since many ISPs have bottlenecks during daytime, while at night the connection might improve a lot.You also select the server with more bits per second (usage), when you should be doing the exact opposite .Do also pick the UDP protocol to start with and check out the other tips for optimizing the connection, as seen in the "After downloading Eddie" section.Naturally there's also your own hardware setup & internet speeds to consider. Things like whether or not your router is good enough; especially if you run the VPN on it directly. There's also the software. Windows has a lot of issues with TAP drivers. So do check out the section on if Eddie is slow.At any rate, I urge you to just go for it. You can always change your confirguation later. Especially after having done a few speedtests on the site .I hope this helps. Welcome to AirVPN @after_lunch Hello ! I'm very pleased to see that! I did hope that it was simple to follow. Also, you could disable IE entirely if you wish, haha. Then just run Windows in a Virtual Machine, for when you miss it haha! Although you might be interested in knowing there's actually a Firefox extension that apparently makes FF look like IE, haha. Something to consider! Do feel free to share your experiences later on, as I hope it's smooth sailing for you, here on out. Welcome to AirVPN, enjoy the ride!
  4. Hello ! This should be moved to off-topic, where similar threads have been made. You don't have to worry I think. It's not as if they haven't been doing all their usual illegal and immoral things for a long time either. That's not to be apathetic of course, because it is nasty. It's just I don't think it'll really affect or be noticeable on the day-to-day VPN use of at least AirVPN. But you know, as usual, we'll see. AirVPN will do its best to mitigate any possible damage/effects as usual :].
  5. I would've thought you'd make ipleak your browser startpage lol, so you never forget. You've got a pleasant persona. Maybe you should write more Haha. Glad you like it. Take care.

    feeling adventurous

Hello ! Why? How about buying an AirVPN giftcard for someone lol
  7. Hello ! This is good to hear. I can tell you with 99% certainty, that you won't be disappointed :]. Welcome to AirVPN. Take a deep breath. Now exhale. Ahhhh . Don't worry about PP. As the americans like to say, we don't cooperate with terrorists, lmao.
  8. Well when I change server on AirVPN, I have Network Lock on, which means I lose connection to the net, since I just cut the connection to the first server ^^. You'll love AirVPN. You get to breathe the air, all without the inconvenience of actually having to *gasp*, go outside! You say you don't allow them, but let's be honest, one does not simply turn down chocolate chip cookies. I know your guilty pleasures!!
  9. @catman VPN use can be hidden too Also, you can apply for a 3 day trial.
  10. Haha, yes I thought so lol. It's just what they wrote in their FAQ O_o. It doesn't look like they use open-source software, so maybe this is a hidden feature ;D
  11. Hello ! As zhang said (many posts start like this lol), you should firstly check with NordVPN support, as they're the ones you're connected to. You also might face great troubles paying with PP here, since they haven't been too helpful to VPN providers sadly. So if possible, consider other payment options as well. AirVPN is a quality service. I briefly checked NordVPN and on their FAQ page it says: Will I get a DNS leak with NordVPN?We have got our own DNS servers so there should be no leak. If you still see the DNS leak, please make sure you are connected to VPN and also remove cache and cookies from your browser. Could this be what you experienced? You didn't clear your cache & cookies and then somehow it leaked. Maybe when you changed server, that constituted a disconnect and thus you went back to using your ISP routes. Then when the change was completed, perhaps due to their lack of a lock feature, you still had a VPN connection. Because this certainly wouldn't happen with the Air client with "network lock" enabled. On their FAQ, they say you also have to manually enter their DNS servers into ALL your local area connections; so maybe your connection fell back on one without these? Hm. I don't know. I'm sure AirVPN won't disappoint though, if you can manage to pay for it .
  12. You're welcome, I'm glad you did! He's a very talented speaker. Try go Preferences>>General and look for a checkbox saying connect to NL at startup. After that, it should stay on. Since my client is set to automatically start & connect and I already enabled NL, I don't notice it. It's always on. It's meant as a strong protection against your IP leaking; which can happen in many different ways. But preventing malware communications wasn't the primary driver of NL I think, although it could be a strong secondary one; although if you're infected, it could be game over anyway. But since it changes firewall rules, it naturally does have implications for network-centric malware. You'd best ask a real expert like zhang about this though, if you want to know more . https://airvpn.org/faq/software_lock/ Should be careful not to hijack the topic
  13. You can click the follow button, in the top right corner of this forum. Then you can get emails or notifications on the site whenever something new is posted . I'd look out for Black Friday, since if they follow their past actions, Black Friday will be an even bigger sale than this one. Perhaps 35% in fact. So don't worry. This should be November.
  14. Hello ! You have TAP Driver 9.21. I recommend trying to downgrade Also, please use spoiler tags for your logs.
  15. One of the methods of control, whether in IT or not, is making people apathetic. Making them feel like whatever they do won't help. Try not to fall for this. It's okay to get pessimistic; just don't let it become so bad that you give up or become lax in your security practices. There's plenty to be pessimistic about of course. Governments and other institutions related to them, shouldn't be doing these things. But they are. But regardless of how much they hack, exploit, steal and lie, it won't mean that they're also right. The link Zhang gave you is good. You can also check my guide, scroll to the bottom and find other means of protecting your privacy. I also recommend checking out on youtube, if you need even more good reasons to stand up for privacy and related things. Because your security online and offline isn't just about the NSA and other agencies; it's about how is thought about and managed, which then has direct implications for things like privacy.
  16. Hello ! Welcome to AirVPN. Please post your logs in spoiler tags. Check my signature. You have TAP Driver 9.21. Please try downgrading: https://airvpn.org/topic/16573-tap-driver-9210-causing-a-myriad-of-issues/
  17. Hello ! Downgrade your TAP driver. You can try 9.9.2.3
  18. Well I thank you for breaking the silence to tell me this, as I put a lot of effort into making it. I'm glad the number of edits don't seem to show, as it's criminally high lol. I hope the guide helps more advanced users too, in terms of finding stuff, since it easily gets lost around here. Anyhow, thanks a lot !!
  19. Hello ! Maybe you could try this: https://airvpn.org/topic/16052-latest-windows-10-build-breaks-openvpn-tap-driver/ Likewise, you can also take a look at this: https://airvpn.org/topic/16573-tap-driver-9210-causing-a-myriad-of-issues/ Alternatively, maybe you should try the TCP mode, if you were using the UDP mode, from the Config generator. Feel free to add your logs too, in spoiler tags.
  20. Hello ! If you turn on Network Lock, that's a good first step
  21. @giganerd Thank you, I added it. I've already added a ton of links since I first started the thread 2 days ago. Mostly at the later stages of the guide. I'm almost satisfied lol. Almost...There's so many good threads which have relevant and interesting content, which have been left to die. So it's nice to be able to list some of them. It's great that Air funds various other projects. I really like that they run their own Tor nodes.
  22. @Necro Well I didn't mean just american ones, I meant to say whatever they use in Gibraltar. Like, it's much the same with the UK increasingly getting worse and so they might get or might already have their own version of NSLs. The equivalent of an NSL. It's also just that if they don't keep logs, why does it have to be so long? I find it very strange to say: - We don't keep logs - Question: Which logs do we keep? - However we don't track people - Question: Do you collect or store stuff? - We don't - Question: What information is collected on the site? Etc. Instead of like: We don't store stuff, but we do a bit of analytics on the site. Period lol, if you get me. @giganerd Baaah, my post might look elaborate, but I didn't check everything in depth. I just browsed through at one point, wherein it then said L2TP for mobile and I thought it could've been elaborated better. I still feel they ought to put more hard specs out front. Y U Laugh @ me ;(. I guess it's because I'm spoiled on AirVPN, where they don't even offer stuff like that up front lol. It's like when PIA says well, we recommend SHA256, but you can have SHA128 lol (apparently it's the default). But hey, we're all extremists in the NSAs eyes right? So who cares...
  23. Oh yea, I forgot Air does it too; I actually knew that. However Air seem to word things much more precisely, to remove ambiguity. I guess it's because I like the "all or nothing" kind of approach and they just don't seem to be as uncompromising about their setup as Air is. Piwik is better than google for sure, but when you pair it with their, in my view lacking, wording on their privacy policy, it's not very comforting. Like, they write "Piwik may also set a web cookie to facilitate the identification of users who revisit the site.", while Air writes "Cookies are stored only for technical reasons and can be deleted anytime by the user. Cookies are specifically meant for technical help. Under no circumstance does Air use cookies to track and/or profile users." Air also says stuff like "Air servers and software procedures acquire only personal data which are strictly necessary for the technical functioning of the service, for example IP address. These data are not collected to identify, through elaboration or any other technique, users' personal identities. These data are not transmitted to third parties." So while Airs limited collection of data puts me at ease (even though I'd of course prefer zero, even on the website etc.), I feel decidedly more suspicious with the way IVPN wrote it. I didn't check their Android section either, I'll admit.
  24. @zhang888 Thanks bro. I know Telegram isn't secure in that way; although perhaps we should distinguish between the normal chat and secret chat? Did they mention secret chat? The EFF once made a scorecard about it and the secret chat portion got the full 5 out of 5 stars, for their various review points. Also, I meant better in the sense that Telegram isn't owned by facebook; unlike whatsapp. Thanks for always staying vigilant. Lastly, how can signal be one of the top ones, if it's from the same company that you hinted at used insecure encryption: OpenWhisperSystems? I'm surprised you didn't mention ChatSecure. I suppose you don't think they're that secure, haha. Thanks
  25. Hello ! I get what you mean OP. However perhaps the minor inconvenience of multiple accounts is still worth it, considering what a great VPN this is. I mean, if you use a password manager perhaps and maybe set up Teamviewer, you could provide remote support as well., without having to remember passwords. If you could ensure one person per account, maybe you could name the accounts too, to make it easier to identify which belongs to which. Like d1409150982, d for dad. m1038593525 m for mom. Haha, etc. Plus realistically, it's often just a 1 time setup for most standard users. Even with 1 account, you can't manage when someone uses network lock locally for instance.
