  1. Hahaha, that's both sad and hilarious at the same time. Thanks for digging it up zhang.
  2. https://airvpn.org/topic/18400-competitor-real-wan-ip-being-shown-in-browser/?p=43991 The difference is that Eddie is actually good software and Air is an extremely security-conscious company; even for a VPN. So in that regard, you don't need to worry. Just enable Network Lock and you'll definitely be fine.
  3. Well one could be a bit cocky and cynical and perhaps say that "reason" isn't even a theme here, since if it was, there wouldn't be such laws to begin with. But you know, I imagine it's much like with when the NSA says they won't collect information on their own citizens. However if during the dragnet surveillance a couple of their own citizens do get their data swept up, that's an unfortunate accident. The difference is NSA is an american company and they have those constitution stuff that is to protect their privacy so if the NSA collects their data it goes against that, there is none of that here like I wrote above the law is because if people do something here with logs they can find whoever did it Well as it happens, there's so many loopholes. They don't, for instance, have to *collect* it themselves, if they merely let one of their "intelligence partners" - another country - do the hard work. Then they simply swap datasets and call it "cooperation". It's a nifty way of side-stepping the law. There's many others. Often "oversight", not so much law, is what is mentioned as the counter-balance to all this collection. However as has been proven, oversight is often lacking and even if and when it's not, it won't mean things won't go wrong. Edward Snowden for instance, tried to tell his superiors about how wrong all the collection of data really was and he was silenced in a variety of ways. So while I get what you mean about there being differences, I think those differences are only skin-deep.

  5. What's this? A wet dream? What kind of reputable company would include this piece of shitty advertisement into a public statement? Shot themselves in the foot with that one, if you ask me. There were a few guys around here asking for a russian server. I invite you to step forward. Wait wait wait... They have feet? lol. Seeing as how it looks like they're still hugely popular (and I see their ads everywhere it seems), I suppose feet weren't a requirement haha.
  6. If Air thought the situation there would be a threat to their operations they'd shut down Ukranian servers
  7. no, PIA should have known better than to have servers in Russia Well to be fair, lots of countries, including not typically-villified ones like the UK either aren't much better or are heading in a direction which increasingly resembles Russia. So it's quite a tough deck of cards to be dealt. But naturally, it does follow that any VPN worth its salt keeps a close eye on not just the technical situation surrounding VPN-usage, but also the various legal realities of the host country and/or region. Other examples include France, wherein after the attacks, emergency laws were put in place pretty quickly: So I think you're both right.
  8. Well, shit. Why the fuck is it that every time AirVPN PIA or anyone try's to operate anywhere the local governments go to town and pass some new legislation to throw them out on their ass. I'm really surprised something like this bullshit has not happened in the US and Canada, ecspecially considering Canada already has a data retention law although it has loose interpretation; personally any risk of data retention should be reason enough for a provider to pull out but I have taken it upon myself not to use them. Moral of the story, AirVPN knew the risks of a Russian presence and their competitor went anyway and compromised their users data. The problem is that if providers had to only set up shop in places where such laws and practices aren't carried out, then those providers would probably have to find a second habitable planet. Besides, what do you prefer? Sledgehammer, like in Russia or cloak and dagger like in the us, where things are just tapped in other ways? Furthermore, PIA would say they don't keep any logs, so nothing was compromised. It's just a shame their lackluster client is in itself a compromise, lol. *sigh* You just cant win when every government is full of assholes. Hopefully if Mars is colonized we may have better luck, but that ping time would be absolute fucking shit for anyone to VPN there. One way via light speed could take up to 22 minutes, using it as a VPN here on Earth would take 44 minutes to send and recieve any data at all. It would be great if AirVPN expanded into space. Then they could make lame jokes by changing their name to "AirSpaceVPN" and the funny thing would then be that there's no air in space, except for AirSpaceVPN, but in airspace there is!
  9. Well you didn't post any logs, so there's no way for us to know.

  11. Hello ! I wondered what you were talking about. I'm not sure if I'm more surprised their servers got seized or that they had real servers to begin with, lol. Where's the fake GeoIP & VPS stuff when you need it PIA? C'mon now... Edit: By the way OP, did you mean to insinuate this being a feature of PIA? Considering the sub-forum of choice
  12. Hello ! Canadian servers have been the cause of many problems in connecting to airvpn.org. Also, OP, some spoiler tags?
  13. Incidentally there was a thread from a few days ago, wherein a NordVPN refugee experienced leaks precisely during server changes.
  14. Hello ! You should really be more specific. Try and include more information please.
  15. Then it's only not true for you and any others who haven't said anything, since others on the forum, besides this thread, have been talking about the Canadian servers. It could well be Air has fixed the issue already.
  16. Haha, it's okay to be a noob. It's all about what attitude you adopt while you are one, in my view. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask the community! And thank you
  17. Oh by the way, hahaha I just noticed the router model ! That's a time-honored one you got there . Your "first router" - do you mean your modem? Haha. Your ISP sounds quite restrictive. It's precisely because of branded firmware that DDWRT and others exist haha . Also yes, pfSense is a firewall. If you scroll to the bottom of my guide, to the how-to section, you can find a link to a guide on using it. Perhaps you should direct your pfSense questions there . Let's just say that I'd be quite surprised if the Zbox didn't have the ability to create hotspots lol.
  18. Hello ! I think you should see about getting DDWRT on your router first, which you can do by checking the DDWRT webpage and trying to find your router in the compatibility/router database section. This alone, if it works, will improve your router immensly, simply due to the expanded options you get. However if you're running a standard router, especially one from your ISP, I don't think any one of us here would recommend that you try to run a VPN on it. It's not due to the speed of your connection as much as it is due to the speed of the router CPU: most commercial routers aren't very capable when it comes to running a VPN on it and thus you might suffer some pretty poor performance. So if you don't need more than 3 devices connected, then it's better to just install Eddie on each respective client. However it is of course possible to get a setup which works with OpenVPN on a router, but I think that if it's going to work and work well, you should consider a router upgrade and perhaps looking into things like pfSense software - there's a link to a mini-PC called the Zbox Nano, in my guide, which is an example of a PC which would run OpenVPN very well when coupled with a pfSense solution. Although this is quite a bit more involved. Don't feel bad about asking. It's absolutely fine. I encourage you to play around, by firstly seeing if your router is compatible with DDWRT to begin with. If it is, you can attempt an install, which is pretty straightforward in most cases I think.
  19. AirVPN does not currently provide bodyguard services, but perhaps this can be an area we can expand into, in the future, lol. The first VPN to not only guarantee high levels of encryption, but also the physical security of the endpoints; NOICE!
  20. You mean like this? Also referenced in my guide, in the how-to section.
  21. Best change servers then. Everyone is having problems with the Canadian servers.
  22. Hello ! Eddie puts things back the way it was originally, when you ask it to, such as when you disable Network Lock. Which is one of the reasons Air Staff always give the most manly advice possible regarding life and death and Eddie: Always kill with grace - so that Eddie has time to finish putting things in order: firewall rules, eulogy, etc. etc.
  23. Hello ! Yes indeed, very strange. Did you check the other threads which are on the same page? https://airvpn.org/topic/18570-cant-connect-to-airvpnorg/ Feel free to post your logs.
  24. Looks like I should see if I can enlarge my signature even more. The red warning color isn't cutting it, damn You've got TAP driver 9.21. Try a downgrade. There's a stickied thread in the forum. If you've been using network lock, you can also try resetting quitting the program and disabling network lock and then resetting windows firewall. Before then re-applying the lock. Are you trying to use SSH/SSL?
  25. Hello ! Do you mind posting your logs and which server you're connected to? Thanks.
