why/How is Air VPN Leaking My Real Location?
LZ1 replied to Tommy25's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! In my view, if you're lax enough to openly tell the entire internet that you're in the UK and have an e-mail address as your username, then you're likely doing other things wrong as well and therefore it's perhaps not such a surprise if websites somehow find out you're in the UK. I suggest you check my guide, download the Eddie client if you're not using it and enable Network Lock, as well as check ipleak.net afterwards. In addition, more information would be welcome as well, such as Eddie logs and/or more information about your system . -
Hello! Thank you for the update giganerd . How quaint that one vice, greed, got played off against another one, censorship.

Well as it happens, a lot of poor VPN services dish out freebies - including one year, two year and "lifetime" awards. It's tempting, surely, but that doesn't mean it's automatically smart to follow up on. As for whether you do any shady stuff or not, is up to interpretation by whoever is watching; which is, incidentally, why surveillance of any kind, VPN or otherwise, is so dangerous. Because the watcher can always change the meaning of "shady" or "suspicious" to fit their purpose. It could for instance, be considered shady that you're even using a VPN to start with. In a sense, I don't think you can *know* a provider is safe. But instead only say that you are very *certain*, based on what you know about them and their practices. That's why this VPN business is so tricky - a bad VPN is a fantastic backdoor into your activities and there's so many grey areas and ambiguities to consider. For instance, you say they do not log anything. Well, as Air Staff pointed out, you can say you don't "log", yet still do real-time analysis and be speaking the truth, technically. So it's kind of up to you to make sure you pick a provider that *you* think lives up to whatever standards you set for yourself. Personally, I find it a little strange that you claim to want "a bit" of anonymity, but then go on to state that you're not willing to pay for it anyway, as it's "not worth the price". If you don't care, there's little stopping you from creating a VM, installing AirVPN in it and then starting to use that 1 year sub you got from that other VPN. I think it's honestly difficult to recommend other VPNs. Most of them are different shades of poo really - even if wrapped in the most attractive of marketing, with their buzzwords and sexy images. Like a really beautifully wrapped up Christmas gift that comes in a big cool box, but turns out to be a pair of power-ranger socks, aww damn. Or worse, power-ranger underwear Why? Because there's no actual *Official Standards* for VPNs. This is why Air has such a strong following, because Air is absolutely uncompromising about security and thereby sets the standard, while most other VPN services are more concerned with selling a finely tuned product that markets "anonymity" or "100% privacy". Also, in case you haven't noticed, these are AirVPN forums and so if you want to decrease the chance of bias, you shouldn't be looking for reviews about other VPNs, on the forum of one of their competitors, as being associated with the question often isn't so smart . Air sets very high standards, so I don't think it's strange at all if other VPNs don't meet this standard. It doesn't always mean that they're bad or useless, it just means that for people around here, they don't tick all the desired boxes. This is why I said it's up to you and what standards you set. If you only want "a bit" of anonymity, whatever that is, then by all means find a provider that you feel is "a bit" trustworthy in carrying out that task. I must admit however, that I find it quite amusing to think about how you can be "a bit" unknown, as anonymity is defined as: an•o•nym•i•ty (ănˌə-nĭmˈĭ-tē) n.The quality or state of being unknown or unacknowledged.n.One that is unknown or unacknowledged. That guy who wrote the song "Purple Rain" was "a bit" unknown to me, hmmm. Haha. VPNs require trust of some measure. By asking for our recommendations, you're also trusting us. But you ultimately need to find a provider that *you personally* trust . I wish you luck .

Hello! You need to submit a support ticket, not post on the forum. You can do so in the Client Area
-
Hello! I went ahead and checked to make sure the forum search feature was still working and I can report that it is .

Hello! I take it you haven't read this then? The Experimental client does things differently - you can check my guide if you want to read more.

LZ1 replied to kahosts's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! Have you acquired router hardware which can handle OpenVPN? -
Can't use TAP driver with my wifi network
LZ1 replied to kis2x's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! Welcome to AirVPN. If you're using the AirVPN Eddie client (Which I recommend), you can try using different protocols, in the preferences area. Especially protocols like TCP 443, which attempt to hide the VPN connection. Otherwise, there may be portable versions of the Air client that you could try. If you've got problems with downloads, you could download the Air software onto a USB stick and take it into the office as well - it comes with the TAP drivers and the other things you need. -
Cannot connect to server on public library wifi
LZ1 replied to wormylg's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! Welcome to AirVPN! I recommend that you try different servers, as well as different protocols, in the preferences area of the Eddie client. If nothing works, you can resort to using TCP 443 connection protocols for instance. Good thing you posted your logs too - now you only need to post them in spoilers and ohhh I tell ya, you'll be a popular guy/gal around here! . By the way, make sure you're not trying to sign into more than 3 devices, as you're getting authorization check fails . -
When we speak of logs on this forum, we basically always mean logs from Eddie - unless you're using some other client of course. The logs can be found in the client itself, ready for copying.

Airvpn - Speed problem AND possible fix...
LZ1 replied to Dudzi's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
So you didn't try the Beta? There's bug-fixes in the Beta client, not beta driver. I like the Beta version of Eddie . -
VPNArea ... what do you think ?
LZ1 replied to pureswiz's topic in Other VPN competitors or features
Hello! Aren't you signed up for AirVPN yet? In general, it's good to look for: transparency. In a VPN service. Transparency about server locations, hardware setups, privacy policies, their history and not least which technologies they use . Looking carefully, you can find the contradictions quickly. For instance, they might claim they're a no-logs VPN, yet in their privacy policy they reserve the right to block you or hand you over to the police if you do things they don't like, on their network. Then you could ask "How would they know what I'm doing (such as torrenting), unless they're watching?" Haha. AirVPN cares more about security than 95% of VPNs I dare say. -
Slow connection caused by network lock [Win10/Eddie]
LZ1 replied to techterrain's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hurray! Without running into trouble? Ohhh my friend that's a tall order haha. But besides the stickied TAP driver thread in the troubleshooting forum, the Experimental client already comes with the latest TAP driver. So there's little to worry about for now. -
Can't break 1MB/s up or down after uninstalling antivirus
LZ1 replied to cloudsora's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Did you try different servers and/or protocols? Also, are you simply using the Air speedtest to measure things? -

Wait wait wait, you must've clicked on the lifebelt icon. Hurry and change it, because by doing so, your login and password are included in the logs. Change this immediately. I urge you to change your password - I don't want to know it. Nice hostname though lol. You can provide logs without making them as detailed as this, if you don't click the lifebelt icon. You can test forwarded ports in the Client Area here on the site. Also, did you reset Windows Firewall? It can help sometimes. -
Airvpn - Speed problem AND possible fix...
LZ1 replied to Dudzi's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! Please try the Beta client . Do remember to shut down Eddie via its own menus - were you doing this? Because if not, then that's why it gets stuck with that DNS setting, as it doesn't have time to restore things if shut down incorrectly. You could also route some things outside the VPN in the exclusion lists if you want - that way, you can run the VPN while also having some things go outside the tunnel. -
Hello! If you want help then you'll have to show us how these disconnects look like, in the logs:) Sent to you from me with datalove

Hello! Aren't you using the AirVPN Eddie client? If not, I'd recommend you try it. It'll make you use Airs DNS too. You shouldn't have to opt out of anything in terms of your ISP really. It's a little like going to googles pages and opting out of tracking cookies; which itself requires a kind of tracking. Instead of, for instance, using programs that block tracking altogether. If you didn't make all your network interfaces use the Air DNS, then perhaps your PC fell back to defaults of some sort and hence your ISPs DNS is being used . Again, do try use Eddie. You can use its Network Lock feature then. Also, maybe this post will be of interest.

Hello! Which OS is this? You could try resetting windows firewall for one thing and check that nothing else, including other programs, could be blocking AirVPN. Maybe it's worth running a cleaning utility as well, such as CCleaner; both for maintenance in general, but also to make sure there's no left over files hanging around from the uninstall. Otherwise you could also try reinstalling the Air software and/or installing the Beta client. The Beta is better able to handle 3rd party security programs too. Lastly, you could also attach some logs if you wish. Sent to you from me with datalove -
You can't click on zhang because he's the Donald Trump of IT security, so unless he wins the presidential election, you may never be able to click on him. Jk lol. You can't see someones profile unless they've made it public, such as myself or you're friends with them. But if you hover your mouse over their name, you can click "Send" if you want to PM them. If we tell you that Mac OSX and Windows are garbage software, will we make you switch to Linux? . As that's how far it'll go, if you go by what people say around here hahaha.
