Bizzare Connection Problems and DNS Leaks
LZ1 replied to countOlaf's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! So are you using the Eddie client and/or have you tried it or not? -
keep that in mind. even though a lot of posts in the forum are complaints over things not working there are a lot of users who are probably having no problems. True. I think most people simply don't check around for solutions before they post. It's 14,297 now.

No worries. Enjoy your time with AirVPN.
-
Something must be working!
-
Hello! No official ones, to my knowledge.
-
As per your first log, you didn't disable automatic driver upgrades, so you won't stay on 9.9.1. Try the Beta or try go to protocols and select TCP .
-
Hello! You could both check my new user guide and find guides to torrenting in it. OP your issue is related to the TAP driver, if memory serves. So download the Beta client please.

Recommendations for best router to use with AirVPN
LZ1 replied to Magrathea's topic in General & Suggestions
Hello! Turris Omnia if you're ambitious! It has better hardware that all the others haha. -
Hello! Welcome to AirVPN! When you said you checked the how to threads, I assume you didn't check the new user guide, seeing as you're asking a couple of questions which have already been answered in it . You can find it in my signature or in the How To forum. Tor is not meant for torrenting and you don't need it, if it's just for hiding your IP address, as that's the point of the VPN. If you can confirm you're not leaking anything, then it's fine to visit the piratebay with the Safari browser. But it's actually the torrenting which can get you in trouble, if it's of copyrighted items. But if your ISP blocks torrent sites, then even just being able to get access to the torrent site, would confirm that the VPN is working . - You're already using Airs DNS. - You don't have to do anything extra, unless you're leaking, which you won't with Network Lock. But it all depends on what you want to achieve. VPNs alone don't make you "anonymous". - You can use Safari if you want. Others may prefer other browsers, which may be more extensible, in regards to addons. - Your check on ipleak should confirm that your DNS and IP address are those of AirVPN and not your own. There's already a collection of torrenting and other guides in my new user guide. You should at least do some portforwarding for your torrenting. I hope you'll find it useful.

Can connect, Port Forwarding working, can't seed?
LZ1 replied to dooley2009's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! If by "you said to" you mean the torrent guides then okay. Did you check your firewall isn't blocking anything and that qBittorent is bound to the VPN interface? -
ANSWERED Connection dropping out then connecting again
LZ1 replied to Droopy's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Well strictly speaking, you should turn off the client first haha. It looks like you still have IPv6 on in your TAP driver, if this is anything to go by: Also, try switch to the TCP protocol. If all fails, then I do recommend you try the Experimental client, if you're not already using it . You can also go to your TAP drivers properties settings, then into Advanced and enable "Always Connected" then click apply. -
Hello! I recommend turning off IPv6 on all network adapters, including TAP. Making sure Comodo/CIS isn't blocking AirVPN.exe, openvpn.exe, tap.exe or qbittorrent.exe. Checking you got the port right on the site and in the qBittorent client. In the Client Area, did you put the same number in the "Local Port" box as in the Top white box? You may also want to edit the uploaded Eddie log and mask your name, if it's your real one, in the path. I also still vouch for qBittorent . Lastly, it may also be good to check your network type.

quick questions from a new user about to start a 3-day trial
LZ1 replied to ~Daniel~'s topic in General & Suggestions
You're welcome. The regular NL uses Windows Firewall. The Beta version uses WFP, but can be changed back to Windows Firewall if needed. It's just crucial that whatever other software is running, isn't also trying to modify WFP while Eddie is. Otherwise it might not work . I don't know where you've been downloading qBittorent from, as it has never come with any such bloat for me. Good day and welcome to AirVPN, I hope you like it . -
Hello! Welcome to AirVPN! Maybe you need to make sure you know what you want.
-
It shouldn't be DNS switchmode you disable, if that's what you mean. It should be DNS route/tunnel/checking. You can check the result on ipleak.net.

quick questions from a new user about to start a 3-day trial
LZ1 replied to ~Daniel~'s topic in General & Suggestions
Hello! Welcome to AirVPN! That's a long list of quick questions. That post is from 2013 and so if you check the changelog you'll find that Network Lock first got implemented in 2014, in version 2.5. Network Lock modifies the firewall - which was what his post was complaining about. No issues there I should think. Likewise, if you read the ToS you'll find: It's not a speed limit, it's an amount of download limit, in the case of reimbursements. But I don't think there's any other limits on free trials, much. But as you can see on the front page, Air does guarantee various minimums. Which isn't so common in VPNs I believe, as it's hard to live up to a minimum. But that just shows Airs confidence in their infrastructure I suppose. Since you sound quite reliant on Comodo, I urge you to go for 2.11. instead, exactly because of WFP. The client is free to download regardless anyhow, in case one doesn't work over the other. Torrent guides are already covered in my new user guide, likewise, you can find a good few posts talking about the security of port-forwarding elsewhere. It doesn't matter where you torrent to/from, as long as you check via things like ipleak.net there's no leak and have your client configured right, which isn't a huge deal luckily. I'm not sure about the Deluge binding, but in qBittorent you simply bind to a selected interface such as tun0, without needing an IP address. But in the Eddie client, you can enable a checkbox which forces re-connections to the same server, thus giving you the same IP address. Or use a black/white listing of servers. I'm not sure how you imagine P2P to work if you don't want to upload though. AirVPN fully allows P2P by the way and doesn't care about DMCA requests. I also don't think you need to make CIS into a killswitch - but it's up to you. There's many around here who have alternative software setups, that act as killswitches and/or firewalls - such as pfSense. I think it's expected for NL to turn off when Eddie closes; Staff said so somewhere, I think. I just can't remember where. But if Eddie crashed, I think you'd still be safe, since it wouldn't have managed to restore the original firewall rules then. I also think most people would expect NL to go off, if they closed Eddie. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to get online and that's one of the most frequent topics to be created around here. As usual, the solution is to set everything to Obtain Automatically. Give it a whirl - if anything, 3 more days costs 1 euro or 1 dollar lol. Which you could get reimbursed anyway, haha. -
Well it wasn't justified. It's a sovereign country - do you condemn that? That's kind of the equivalent of someone attacking the US in order to fight the Bloods or the Cribs gangs or the KKK. In relation to DT, he could use the same logic to start conflicts with China, as you also previously mentioned being worried about, rightly so. So I think we have to take a hard look at legality here and other concepts such as "innocent until proven guilty", instead of just bombing the ones who look mean. I mean, if applied to ourselves, Trump could say "if you use a VPN then you're guilty of xyz", even more so than is already the case now. Same thing for genders/religions. I don't think he can ban Muslims either, because he would have to make it into a law. Which then requires congress and since many need to get re-elected for various positions next year, they can't risk it. But he did ban or limit entry from a few select countries yes. Sent to you from me with datalove

Hello! Great to see logs! And in spoilers! Here, have a medal ^^. Please try turn off IPv6 on all interfaces - including TAP. You can also try to disable DNS route checking in the Eddie client . Do also make sure no third party security software is messing with stuff - especially if you're using the Stable client.

Well yeah. I would've voted for him too, out of that lineup. He was also the only candidate out of that lineup, to voice any concern over the surveillance state actually. So that's a plus. @Kepler That should be a given. But it seems meaningless to do so, as you wouldn't condemn deliberate attacks the other way, as you presumably continue to believe they're all accidental. The damage to them is also far far greater than the damage they've done to us; 9/11 included. "Them" being both the actual fighters/terrorists, but also their societies/countries. Likewise, it is unclear if you see anything wrong with starting the illegal wars to begin with. Which then help cause those attacks on the West, which then consequently lead to the same-old solutions: increased surveillance for all of us. At least it's good for Airs bottom line, in a sad way, haha.

What do you think about "Windscribe" ?
LZ1 replied to a9db3edd's topic in Other VPN competitors or features
I have to say that's false and quite a worrying statement coming from you, the supposed Founder. The very notion that trust is required, serves as a weak point, as the trust is merely a substitute for actual verifiable assurance. The less explicit "trust" required, the better. There's been plenty of cases where closed-source software has caused problems. Not just with security, but with other things too. Your misuse of the word "paranoid" serves only to undermine legitimate security and privacy concerns. A network analyzer also won't help if the software contains malware which doesn't need network communications. If the client is so simple as you say, then it should also be a simple matter of making it open-source, no? Then the "truly paranoid" will have even more avenues of auditing and trust in the client will increase. So while you could argue the case of closed source software being alright, I think you picked the wrong brand of software to do it on, since it's security-related and open-source is one of the building blocks of a secure system. You claim the "truly paranoid" could simply use a network analyzer tool, but I think that's a bad argument, seeing as the "truly paranoid" would avoid your software altogether, upon finding out it's closed. Thus you're left with users who can't or won't check such things - which seems irresponsible, given not all users will know the significance of closed vs open source software and thus might unknowingly put their security or privacy at risk. Security isn't just 1 product after all - as you said, there's other factors one should be concerned about. Well, the client is one of them. Someone around here made a thread which showed that a client from another VPN provider acted in some very malicious ways too. -
ANSWERED Connection dropping out then connecting again

Then please attach logs again when the problem occurs -
@Kepler: That's more like prejudiced, not racist. Muslim isn't a race either. They're often conflated: noun 1.an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.2.any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.3.unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or religious group. It also strikes me as being somewhat two-faced (for lack of a better expression sorry) that you would make the case for racism by using the Muslim ban as evidence, before going on to tell him to "rescind your fatwa". A fatwa being something an Islamic scholar would put out, even though there's no evidence in his last post that he has Muslim leanings and thus you're seemingly making a mockery of the very people and diversity you're trying to defend. @Omni:I don't think Kepler likes Hillary either, to be fair. Was there a particular candidate which you did like? Bernie? Jill? Maybe even Marco Rubio? He's kind of funny . I imagine you might go for someone like Ron Paul.
