LZ1 replied to athei's topic in General & Suggestions
Hello! Firstly, this sounds like something you should perhaps consider contacting the other relevant parties about; such as Sony or your ISP. Maybe they'll have a fix for you. This is good to do, even if Air has a solution for you, since the relevant parties might not know any better and so it might provoke a change. Who knows. Secondly, I've never heard of Air giving any one their own private or personal whatever, so I think it's unlikely. But if they were to hand out private favours of any sort, they most certainly wouldn't do it publicly, like in this forum. It would likely cause a feeding frenzy. So if anything, I suggest you contact Air support instead, as they're very competent . As a side note, I normally turn off UPnP. Feels uncomfortable with programs just opening ports when they please. Cant connect on BT Fiber Home Hub 5 (Mac)
LZ1 replied to double0seven's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Anytime . Next time, you just need to post those logs inside spoiler tags and it'll be perfect; as it'll help us all avoid a great deal of scrolling. You can check my signature for how to use spoiler tags. In general, if you can disable IPv6 completely, that's recommended. Anyhow, have a nice day Sent to you from me with datalove -
Cant connect on BT Fiber Home Hub 5 (Mac)
LZ1 replied to double0seven's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello ! Firstly, I'm sorry about BT. Hah, no I'm kidding. Maybe. . .hehe. Seriously though I'd recommend getting a router and/or hardware that your ISP, BT in this case, doesn't provide. It can improve your life in many ways, not least in allowing for more flexibility. Like yoga. It would also be nice if you could paste the actual logs here, so that we can see everything . Right now it's a little like describing the texture of a smell in the air, when the larger picture would reveal that the house is actually on fire, haha. Maybe you could try disable some network adapters that you're not using and/or turn off or unplug services you aren't using, in places like your networking settings, so that the Air client doesn't try connect via the wrong services/devices/whatever. It could sound like you're trying to connect via IPv6, which is an internet protocol. Well it's recommended to avoid this version for various reasons and stick to IPv4 if possible . Also, there's two such "checking" settings I believe. One of which is for DNS, that you mentioned. The other setting is in the tab right next to DNS. So if you did want to use this option now or later, I think you normally have more luck if you turn off both and then restart the client. I don't have the client available at the moment, to be more clear sorry. Apologies I can't be more helpful at the moment, as I'm roaming. Sent to you from me with datalove -
Whonix: "combining Tor with a VPN can make you less anonymous!"
LZ1 replied to fallen1111's topic in Off-Topic
Yes seriously, unless the pretty recent post from the Staff account on exactly this issue is now outdated due to some update of policy that I haven't heard about. Zhang is not an employee and only posts from the account called "Staff" can be said to be speaking on the behalf of AirVPN in an official sense. Sheivoko is still here somewhere. So I don't know why you'd insinuate the forum isn't still great, based seemingly on such a superficial parameter. I was only informing you of the situation as I know it, so that perhaps zhang or Staff didn't have to repeat it themselves. We shouldn't derail the thread. -
Whonix: "combining Tor with a VPN can make you less anonymous!"
LZ1 replied to fallen1111's topic in Off-Topic
As a staff member you should be more careful about coming off as rude or dismissive. Your comments might reflect poorly on Airvpn as a whole.Hello! Zhang isn't a Staff member, but he'll surely take it as a compliment that he could be mistaken for one . He's therefore also not employed by Air. Thus he doesn't represent Air in an official sense either and what he says likewise doesn't reflect official AirVPN policies or thoughts. Only the Staff account does. Zhang and Staff often state things very matter of factly and don't use too many smiles, yet this is just a writing style. Yet you can be sure he didn't mean what he said in a bad way. Good day. -
Hello ! Using SSH would help hide the fact that a VPN is being used, if someone was monitoring the network, as in China. It can slow down your connection though. You can alao use a VPN is conjunction with Tor or simply use Tor on its own. It depends what you want to achieve. I haven't read what they've said, but a VPN is only 1 of several different technologies to get around blocks and/or hide your activities. Perhaps you could load a portable version of Eddie onto a USB stick and simply plug it in when you need it. That way, even if your computer is seized, it might not be possible for them to determine that a VPN is or was used. You'd best think of what you're trying to achieve and then plan accordingly

ANSWERED Unusable connection while torrenting over AirVPN
LZ1 replied to Kagee's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Then you can try upgrading to a newer version. Around page 3 giganerd links to it . -
Hello! Maybe you should look into doing some port forwarding, which you can do in the client area, as well as checking that your firewall is allowing whichever program that you're using Welcome to AirVPN.

Hello! You're using SSH? Try go to Preferences>Protocols and make sure it's set to Automatic, if you didn't intend on using any other protocol. -
ANSWERED Unusable connection while torrenting over AirVPN
LZ1 replied to Kagee's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! It would be relevant for us to see the logs around the time you disconnect. -
No google is a problem. You'll be sending all your DNS queries to them and that's just not smart, if you're looking to remain as private as possible. It's not that they don't work, it's that google being google, always tries to extract as much information as it can about you. Even if you only have metadata such as timestamps or some such, that's still bad in a privacy context.

Windows 10 + AirVPN = Constant disconnections
LZ1 replied to uptpilot's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
You apparently didn't go through the thread, otherwise you'd notice one of my explanatory posts involving Revo Uninstaller. Also, it's essential for Windows 10 to install TAP 9.9.2_3.exe. This is a signed driver. Why doesn't the AirVPN software installer do all of this? This is not very shrink wrapped for a commercial product. Is there some other way to accomplish this without Revo Uninstaller? I am prohibited from installing software that is not on a list of approved software. The Air software can't do everything; especially when it comes to software that isn't directly under Airs control. Then there's the fact that peoples configurations are different and so therefore, for some, the existing drivers work fine. For others, they don't. But that doesn't stop Air from bundling certain drivers with downloads of their own software; the latest edition of Eddie comes with the most up to date TAP drivers after all. Maybe Ccleaner would be allowed on your system. If not, simply uninstalling normally and not using Revo can work too; giganerd just does it to be absolutely sure the drivers are gone and so therefore seeks to minimize issues. You'll have to do whatever is possible within the constraints of your specific situation. Maybe you can download the program to a USB stick and/or use portable versions that don't need to be installed or something. The main point is that you find a TAP driver which works for you. -
Is it ok to use port TCP port 443 with SSL websites
LZ1 replied to Valunker's topic in General & Suggestions
Hello ! Yes SSL is "more secure" in one sense, but unless you're experiencing severe censorshop, restrictions or other protocols don't work for some reason, then it's not really necessary. It can also slow down your connection even more than a VPN already might, as SSL does add even more required computation to the mix. You have to find out what exactly you're trying to achieve. There's no real reason to use SSL unless as I said, you want to hide your VPN traffic or you're facing heavy restrictions, such as in China. Otherwise, stick to UDP. -
Hello ! If Air thought the other DNS servers were safe/better, then they wouldn't provide their own DNS I'm sure. By using Airs DNS, you're most safe. Google for one, is a massive data-collector, so it should be a given that they shouldn't be prioritised, if you care about privacy . In addition, if you don't use the Air DNS then you won't be able to use some of Airs double-hop techniques, that allow you access certain supported websites, from any server, regardless of country. (So for instance, not having to switch to a UK server to watch a UK show). There may be other reasons why the Air DNS is slower or experienced as slow, but since we have so little information to go on, we can't say anything for sure .

Windows 10 + AirVPN = Constant disconnections
LZ1 replied to uptpilot's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
So you didn't take a look at your TAP drivers as suggested? Are you using any 3rd party firewall and/or antivirus software? Have you tried different entry ports, besides SSL TCP Port 443? SSL can slow down your connection even more. Have you tried checking your network adapters & making sure IPv4 & IPv6 are set to "Obtain automatically"? (Control Panel>Network & Internet>Network Connections) It looks like you're still using the same drivers. TAP can be a major source of issues. It's great you give me logs; although they're extremely long, but it's no use if you don't try out what's being suggested -

Authorization check failed, continue anyway ({1])
LZ1 replied to tranquivox69's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello ! It would be helpful if you could provide the logs, so we can see everything -
Hello ! That was an excellent opening post I have to say. Full of information. Just wanted to say well done OP ^^. I hereby grant you 10 points, plus another 20 for posting route checking results. You're in the lead so far! Haha. If I were you, I would've contacted them regardless, just to see what they say. Maybe something interesting would come out of it. Maybe not.

I wonder why do you think 512 is a bad choice? I use 2048000byte in buffer settings which is about 2Mb and it helps maximize my speed at all times Oh I didn't mean to say it's a bad choice, only that I've only ever seen Staff recommend 256kb.

v2.11 on linux: server option being read as profile
LZ1 replied to bayoumedic's topic in Eddie - AirVPN Client
Hello ! It may be beneficial and potentially more helpful to everyone, if you also post in the 2.11.2 thread. Please use spoilers for those logs though. -
512 isn't recommended. Most should go for 256kb. If you have any firewall or 3rd party networking software, then that could impact your connection. As well as whether you use a Wired or Wireless connection, how good your router is, how your ISP is and so forth. There's many parameters to adjust. Selecting the right server, isn't always about picking the one closest to you for instance, as some ISPs might have direct routes to other ISPs and/or countries. Just ask giganerd, he'll tell you haha.

Hello ! Welcome to AirVPN :]. Ocelot said it. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. You're not stupid. It can just be overwhelming if you're not used to all this

Does using air vpn with plugins like zenmate give extra security ?
LZ1 replied to Valunker's topic in General & Suggestions
Hello ! No I wouldn't say so. But it depends. Zenmate for one, was found to have some less-than-ideal policies: AirVPN is already very secure as it is. But if you go to my guide, you'll find many links to ways you can make yourself more secure and/or anonymous; such as by using Tor and other browser extensions which are good. Whether it *should* be used is up to you and who your enemies are. If you're the next Snowden, then yes, but then you've got bigger problems. If you're just a casual user, then perhaps not. But if you're trying to be as anonymous as possible, then you should definitely look into Tor at the very least. Security is not just 1 thing you can do, or even 2. It's very much a process. Welcome to AirVPN -
Hello ! Have you read my guide? It'll help you a lot if you're new. I recommend that you try the AirVPN client first, because it's really quite excellent and I think it goes above and beyond most other VPN clients. Just download the latest Stable version. In my guide, I give you some tips on increasing your speed and what you should do. The VPN will hide your torrenting and AirVPN fully accepts torrenting; just make sure you've got no leaks and that you've applied the various tweaks . Of course if my guide doesn't answer all your questions, then feel free to ask me. By the way, I don't know which OS you're on or what you've already tried. Welcome to AirVPN!
