  1. I believe that passing as few hops as possible on the Internet is a good thing in terms of privacy, security and stability. So I was thinking about developing a setup where I would route traffic to IPs in to country X to the VPN exit node in country X, and traffic to country Y to a VPN exit node in country Y, and so on... This could easily be setup in a router like pfSense etc. I would love to hear your reflections/comments on the security and privacy in such a setup. BR
  2. Hello, does anyone know how to create a portable Windows 10 install to act as a live CD on otherwise non admin computers so that i may use the VPN? I have already tried WintoUSB and the program fails with the error "failed to start system API". Does anyone know of another way or different software i can use?
  3. Using AirVPN with Tor ALL the time... I am a new AirVPN client and at first I was confused while getting started had to watch a you tube tutorial. I had used Nord VPN and a couple others but ther were way to slow and sloppy. But after using AirVPN for a couple days I think I found the best VPN for my needs. woo-hoo This makes more sense to me. I do have one quick question and would love feedback... I use Tor almost everyday and now that I have AirVPN I was wondering what is the best way to use the both together. Do I download the tor bundle every time? Or is there a way to haveit preset? What do you fellow users do and what have you found works the fastest, the most consistent and how much anonymity do you think you have if buying?not selling items from DNM? Any feedback is much appreciated.
  4. Hello everyone. I had a question for the forums today. Is it possible to run Eddie (or any other way to connect to AirVPN) on Tails OS? For those who do not know, Tails is a Linux based OS that is very secure and routes all connections through Tor. However, if I am not mistaken, since there is no VPN in that setup, the operator of the Tor relay node can see your actual IP, yes? So, is it possible to use AirVPN on Tails? I tried earlier but it gave me some sort of error when I tried to run the Eddie client's file. Also, will using a VPN on Tails make me more secure? If so, what are the benefits of doing so?
  5. Hello, As you might have noticed, there is a list circulating on the privacy related forums recently regarding VPN providers: Old chart (The author of the chart did not provide any credible info regarding his tests) </deprecated> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FJTvWT5RHFSYuEoFVpAeQjuQPU4BVzbOigT0xebxTOw/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0 <deprecated> New chart: https://www.comparitech.com/blog/vpn-privacy/best-vpns-privacy-and-anonymity/ While this list might be useful to avoid some providers, it lacks (imho) key values like if the announced locations are real locations and not fake Whois+GeoIP tricks, if the servers are actual bare-bone servers with real internet providers and not cheap shared bandwidth resellers, and of course who is the team behind the VPN company and how they respond to critical security issues, privacy questions and "hard" questions regarding their service. I want to make it an open discussion, where the members that submit their thoughts "Why provider X is better than Air", where me, or other members, can explain why most of the times this is a lie. Since most of those providers oversell cheap VPS servers, and have GeoIP tricks with fake whois (HMA/PureVPN/Ivacy are a good example) to show you 50+ countries where in fact it is mostly NL/US location where you can put fake data in the IP, and open a ticket to Maxmind to update the location. And here you go, a fake country is ready for the gullible users to fall in. I would like to make a discussion where every member can post a "feature" where they think another provider is better, but as I explained, most of them only false advertize it in most cases. The only thing I cannot put up on this challenge is the price, however, being in the hosting industry I do know how much Air pays for their leased servers - this is not a cheap thing to run at all. There are about 100 providers in this list, I tried to find one that is at least honest about their infrastructure and their privacy policy, but I couldn't find anyone except Air. Now this is rather bad news than good one - I wanted to see more, but a fact is a fact... Feel free to throw competitive names here, in a nicely manner, and I will try as much as possible to show you why some points you believe in - are not exactly the way there are on this list. You can also try and point out some improvement points for Air, based on that list, and if they are interesting I am sure Staff can comment about them. Regards.
  6. Hi there everyone! Today I was runnning netstat -nbt on CMD in Windows with the intent to get the IP address of a game server I was connected to. But as I scrolled down, I saw this: [skype.exe] TCP 10.4.50.209:4855 xxx.xx.x.xxx:8080 ESTABLISHED The xxx.xx.x.xxx is my real IP address (I was running this command while connected to AirVPN). I wasn't sure if this was normal for my IP to appear here, so I ask everyone here. Is it normal to be seeing my real IP address in netstat -nbt? If not, how can I prevent it?
  7. I bought an Ubuntu phone mainly because of privacy concerns I have with IOS & Android. I was disappointed to see that they don't have the built in support for Network Manager like the Ubuntu desktop does, is it possible to run Airvpn on the Ubuntu EQ5 phone?
  8. Am trying to watch some content which I know is available on Netflix UK. Obviously, I am not located in the UK, thus I am using AirVPN to connect to a client in the UK. However, after connecting the VPN, and logging into Netflix, the content is not showing in Netflix list of search. I've tried this with both the AirVPN Client, as the OpenVPN Client with UK config file. Weird enough, when connecting to AirVPN on my Android phone, and opening the Netflix app, the content does show in the list, but still won't play. The other thing I occasionally notice when connecting to AirVPN UK Server, is that Google shows me Google Belgium? Anything I can do to fool Netflix with regards to the country I am in?
  9. Hi everyone, I have million of questions and also looking for step by step guide. im running mac os x. I run Tor Bundle 1st, then start airvpn client in tor mode (pref->protocol->tor) and when i check my ip in Tor browser and firefox (all stock settings) i have 2 different stories: in Tor browser i have Tor exit node ip in firefox i have my exit vpn ip 1) so what is really happening? 2) does firefox go tor then to vpn? 3) how to check tor "stage" if it even happens(or i have to socks proxy localhost??) 4) why does tor browser "bypasses vpn"? 5) how to set everything go smooth? 6) is it possible to work is tor browser? Additional 6) how to avoid "VPN fingerprint" and "double ping" warnings when checking anonymity (i've read that ssl or ssh protocols should be used....but then i'm not able to use Tor?(i'm not able to choose 2 protocols at the same time in GUI) or how to add socks 5 proxy to the chain as an exit node while still using Tor as a 1 stage) Looking for your replies if you have a link to a "noob" manual, I would greatly appreciate it!!! (I wonder why there are no standard airvpn manual on how to do it step-by-step)
  10. I have installed and got AirVPN working great on Windows 10. I have a Plex media server on the same pc but the Plex remote connection goes through the VPN. I want it to go outside the VPN and all other traffic on the pc go through the VPN. I have been able to get Plex to connect when the VPN is disconnected and I have also been able to get Plex to connect while VPN is connected but traffic goes through the VPN. I want to be able to connect to the VPN but all Plex traffic to travel outside the VPN. I need help!
  11. I'm having problems connecting tor -> vpn I'm quite flummoxed as to why considering when I first set it up it worked perfectly fine. I have barely touched the settings in the vpn and and problems connecting through tor started occurring after I switched to automatic protocol (which also worked fine and still does) and then back to using the tor protocol. When I test the tor protocol it tells me the test is successful however when I attempt to connect it gets stuck on checking authorization while flashing to connecting the the vpn server every few seconds and then back to checking authorization. I have left it running like this for probably over 15 minutes it just keeps flashing back and forth without connecting. I'm pretty stumped on how to solve this considering the test for the protocol comes back successful.
  12. Hi, I have a problem with Airvpn + voip. My setup goes as: Android with OpenVPN (in config is selected best latency server and UDP option) > Zoiper android VOIP app which connects to callwithus.com voip service. I choosed airvpn for best speed recommendations. VPN I had before was slower and I could not call with vpn/voip. Voip is configured well (I guess, maybe needed some options for VPN) because if I turn off VPN, voip works just fine. Anyone has experience, suggestions, solutions how to make this setup working? Because for now it just dead silence - connection speed is too low I guess. Thanks, criminaldamage
  13. Goal: get https://github.com/jishi/node-sonos-http-api to find my local Sonos devices Mac: running AirVPN, Local IP: 10.0.1.150 Sonos: IP: 10.0.1.19 When AirVPN is not connected, and I run the node server from the URL above, the server quickly finds the Sonos speaker and connects. However, once I connect to AirVPN, the server endlessly loops with: scanning for players in ip 10.0.1.150 scanning for players in ip 10.4.18.107 <-- AirVPN IP If I go to AirVPN --> Preferences --> Routes --> "Not specified routes go: Outside the VPN tunnel," it works. However, I know that effectively stops the benefit of AirVPN. So, if I set AirVPN --> Preferences --> Routes --> Not specified routes go: Inside the VPN tunnel, and set an IP Range of 10.0.1.0/24, it does NOT work and endlessly loops scanning. Am I understanding the routes table correctly? I'm so not privy of CIDR formats, but I think I understand that 10.0.1.0/24 means 10.0.1.1 - 10.0.1.254, correct?
  14. Hello everyone! I visited https://2ip.io/privacy/ through airvpn which told me that the possibility of using an anonimity tool is 99%. So they say that there is the possibility of 99% that I am using a VPN. This is true. They had found the difference between timezones, open ports 1194, 500 and 4500, and VPN fingerprint - OpenVPN, AES, MAC is SHA1, LZO. What could be done with that? I can only change my timezone but the rest does not depend on me. Do you have any ideas?
  15. Hello, I can be online only with airvpn, if I'm not connected to airvpn I can't connect my pc to internet. I've windows 10, and I never used Network Lock. Thanks for help and sorry for my english.
  16. I'm relatively new to VPNs and I'm having a hard time finding out what I should do about a few general settings in my torrent client. I use Windows 7 and qBittorrent, and my settings so far are as follow: qBittorrent is only bound to the interface used by the VPN;UPnP/NAT-PMP in qBittorrent is disabled;qBittorrent's listening port is set to the port I opened in the AirVPN web client settings;at the router level, UPnP is disabled and no ports are forwarded;Network Lock (automatic mode) in the AirVPN client is enabled;a proxy is not being used -- all traffic is simply being routed through the VPN;and lastly, the AirVPN client has mostly default settings. What I should do about the uTP, DHT, PEX, and Local Peer Discovery settings in qBittorrent? Currently I have them all disabled, but is it safe to enable them, or do I run the risk of having my actual IP exposed to ths swarm if I enable some of them?

    LEAP/Bitmask

"LEAP is a non-profit dedicated to giving all internet users access to secure communication. Our focus is on adapting encryption technology to make it easy to use and widely available." LEAP develops the Bitmask application. "Bitmask is an open source application to provide easy and secure encrypted communication. You can choose among several different service providers or start your own. Currently, Bitmask supports encrypted internet (VPN) and encrypted email." "Bitmask is built using OpenVPN but with several security enhancements turned on by default. One of the biggest problems with encryption today is how it’s too easy to make mistakes, because of that, we are forcing security with Bitmask. It will prevent common VPN problems like DNS or IPv6 leaks or data going over the clear to the Internet if your connection with the VPN service repeatingly drops." -Riseup LEAP shares the same mission as AirVPN and they need support to develop their software. https://leap.se/en/about-us/donate

  19. Hi, Recently I re-used an old Netgear WNR3500 v2 I had lying around and put dd-wrt on. I followed the tutorial on here and got it all working :-) So my network at home is as followed *Cisco 867VAE-K9 as my VDSL router - connects to my ISP and offers DHCP for local devices. *Netgear WNR3500 plugged into Cisco router I use the range 192.168.0.0/24 for my home network such that :- 192.168.0.254 - ISP gateway via my CISCO - so most devices use this 192.168.0.251 - VPN tunnel gateway via Netgear - so any devices to use VPN point to this gateway and also change DNS server to be VPN DNS server etc. The Netgear's WAN port is configured to be 192.168.9.250 with its gateway pointing out to the CISCO on 192.168.0.254 My initial test is as below. Down: 17.289 Mbit/s Out, 6.271 Mbit/s In (36%), 20MB - Up: 6.585 Mbit/s Out, 3.183 Mbit/s In (48%), 20MB - Date: Sun, 13 Dec 2015 20:27:45 GMT - Buffers: 20MB/20MB - Laps: 3, Time: 178.81 secs Does this setup seem ok, I think my speed is limited by the CPU in the router or could it be I just need to try a different server etc ? CPU ModelBroadcom BCM4716 chip rev 1 CPU Clock453 MHz Thanks !!
  20. Hi all. I just signed up for service and am a newbie when it comes to this stuff. I am using Debian jessie, and have successfully installed the AirVPN client. How do I set up my torrent client (Transmission) and my browser to utilize AirVPN's services? Thanks!
  21. Hello, I'm having a really weird issue. I initially had ufw setup, but my speeds were horrendous. Pings all worked well everywhere with good latency, but connecting (www, ssh, etc) to anything took forever! After trying many different servers I disabled my firewall, and BAM speeds were excellent. So I said screw it, lets try the network lock on the AirVPN GUI and there we go again with incredibly slow speeds. I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 if that matters, I'm all out of ideas any assistance would be appreciated as I really don't want to leave the firewall off.
  22. So I know this maybe over the top and a wee bit silly but what if you chained 2 VPNs together through virtualization (VPN 1 on host machine and VPN 2 on a virtual machine) but instead of running 1 virtual machine you installed a virtual machine inside of a virtual machine and installed VPN 2 inside that virtual machine thats installed inside the virtual machine then create another virtual machine seperate from the others and install pfsense and configure it and route the traffic through VM 2 (virtual machine inside the virtual machine) to VM 1 then back through the host? And of cousre run TOR too............ VPNception?
  23. Following NaDre's instructions on "Guide to Setting Up VPN Just for Torrenting on Windows"....... https://airvpn.org/topic/9491-guide-to-setting-up-vpn-just-for-torrenting-on-windows/ I wanted some input on whether "everything" looks ok and is setup right. I'm posting screenshots below of how it's setup. Input from any advanced user, staff and anyone that knows what they're doing would be awesome. Thank You and have an day/night. *Some pics were unable to be uploaded*
  24. When using a VPN, am I correct in thinking that any peering arrangements that my ISP uses will no longer apply as it will depend on the exit server that I am connected to?
  25. Hi there! Imagine a scenario in which one is in a country in which it is illegal to use a VPN. In this scenario, the ideal solution for would be to use a VPN or method in conjunction with the VPN that conceals the fact that one is being used. Is this a service that AirVPN offers? How does one implement this, if possible? Is it automatically a part of the setup/deal? If it's not possible using AirVPN alone, how does one go about making this possible? Many thanks!
