  1. 1) it'll never know the best "route". It just gives you the best server at the time based on load. 2) to change servers all you have to do is change the remote server IP address and save the settings. at least that's the way it is with asus routers. so no procedure needed.
  2. what device at your home is the openvpn client?? it's apparently not the osx machine as it's asleep.
  3. what device is your openvpn client? P8 Lite android smartphone only need to forward ports on the router if the router itself is the openvpn client. but now you say your phone is your openvpn client. weren't you wanting to wake up an osx machine?
  4. I'm thinking most people don't reserve any ports so I don't think it's near being a problem yet.
  5. Wouldn't a lot of people like to have more connections available to them through AirVPN, by their simply paying a bit more on their present account? 3 sessions/account, max, can be too low for some, I would think. -- grok. people just need to use (dedicated device that acts as router/gateway/firewall for local network) as their openvpn client then.
  6. xy.vpn.airdns.org points to the current best server of area xy. You will see that 213.152.161.29 is one of the NL servers, being the best at the time you ran dig or nslookup. well that's too bad. I didn't cross reference with server entry IPs, my mistake. Using the domain name is still helpful so long as DNS resolution is possible.
  7. Air does provide one address that represents all of a continent. no need to do the remote-random far as I know. europe.vpn.airdns.org is 213.152.161.29 america.vpn.airdns.org is 184.75.223.194 asia.vpn.airdns.org is 103.254.153.68 edit: resolving these domains gives the best individual server at the time of the lookup. this is still useful if DNS resolution is possible as your openvpn client connects.

  9. in the config generator click advanced settings and look to the right of the page. there you'll see an option for separate certs and keys.
  10. Just turned off JavaScript blocking or completely disabled it? Because NoScript's protective features like ABE, ClearClick and others can work on their own with JavaScript blocking turned off. I only allow airvpn.org.. Try other servers, ports and/or protocols. OK, thank you, i just try a few port (in 4 days i have try many servers with all the time same slow speed). Do i have to disconnect/connect after i change ports or protocols ? AirVPN speed test may use another domain other than airvpn.org. Only allowing airvpn.org may not be enough for the speed test to work. yes, you must disconnect and reconnect to begin using a different port/protocol.
  11. port forwarding works just fine but for specific details on how to use a VPN in conjunction with steam maybe some steam forums have the info you need. is there a central steam server that tells other steam clients how your client can be reached?
  12. they block the IP address of the VPN servers, nothing special.
  13. you obviously haven't read all the threads here. I'm surprised you can access ANY netflix while on VPN.
  14. What MTU do you refer to? tun MTU is 1500 bytes and can't be modified unilaterally, of course. Ethernet MTU is 1500 bytes as well, are you in a jumbo-frames supporting network? See also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_transmission_unit Kind regards The article you cited above, https://airvpn.org/external_link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.openvpn.net%2Fopenvpn%2Fwiki%2FGigabit_Networks_Linux , theorizes that high tun-mtu values work better because they get larger chunks of data into the encryption/decryption engine. If this is true is it possible that even if only unilaterally set it results in a performance increase?
  15. yes, many routers have openvpn clients, even servers. usually you just upload the ovpn config file to the router and it configures itself. I was aware that some routers had an openvpn client baked into the firmware however I was not aware that Asus has done it. Back when I had an Asus router using Merlin's firmware was about the only way to get openvpn going on it. Good to know. So since it looks like you can load ovpn files into the Asus openvpn client setup then setting up a split tunnel should be possible ... I think. That's all I got. a split tunnel with stock Asus firmware isn't possible. But, merlin firmware has a nice policy routing GUI for each openvpn client.

  17. pretty much can't isolate netflix traffic. I don't know about hulu but netflix uses an endless variety of amazon servers which would mean you need to also put all amazon servers outside the VPN. you may as well just route a device outside the VPN for those services.
  18. 31.3MB/s is 250mbit/s and about the fastest you'll see in the top users section. Did you test different tun-mtu values?
  19. hi all, noob question maybe. I don't get my configuration to work. I use an Asus AC-3200 router, with original firmware. Installed the VPN-client. Works flawlessly. But: when i enter the DNS manually on the WAN-tab (10.4.0.1 and 10.5.0.1), then no website can be found. Router says "no connection". Using Google's DNS works fine, but i wanna use AirVPN's DNS. What am i doing wrong? if you don't manually input DNS what is your DNS when connected to VPN? It should be automatically switching to use AirVPN DNS when you're connected.
  20. running on your router is fine but beware speed limitations of the relatively weak processor of routers as they crunch openvpn. you'll need to forward ports on your router but must use SSH into the router to input iptable rules. the web GUI port forwarding is for WAN to LAN, you need TUN to LAN. search the forum for this as this is a question that gets asked literally at least once a week. Trust me, with a little effort you can learn and figure this out without being spoon fed.
  21. openvpn GUI and AirVPN both use whatever TAP driver is installed on your system. If you install the older version of the TAP driver that everybody agrees is the best just use the option in Eddie that prevents upgrading the TAP driver.
  22. I suppose because a lot of the users don't reserve any ports.
