  1. For approximately the last two to four weeks I have been experiencing very slow browsing when connected thru the AirVPN 2.10.3 client from my Windows 10 machine. I believe the issue is related to DNS resolution because the speed of my connection seems normal when I am engaged in large file transfers; it only slows down when I am querying DNS continuously, such as when I'm browsing in Chrome. My computer is Windows 10 Pro, 64bit,
  2. Just got airvpn and the download speeds on torrents keep rising and dropping all the time. Ive downloaded in the past without VPN and with a different VPN and the speeds were always steady around 900 kbs and 1mbs or higher. With airvpn its constantly fluctating every minute or 2. It goes up to around 1 mbs, then drops to 100kbs rinse and repeat. Already tried different servers and ports through SSL and SSH same thig.
  3. Hi, I'm using a Asus rt-n66u router for a while with OpenVPN on port 433. Since speeds are not good, I played with settings / multiple configs to get better speeds but so far those efforts failed. I have a Ziggo ISP account that allows a max speed of 150 Mbps down. On my laptop (Wifi) without vpn I get speeds around 50 to 65 Mbps. When I use AirVPN via the Asus rt-n66u router, I get speeds around < 10 Mbps down and equal up. I've used the https://airvpn.org/asuswrt/ howto page, so uploading the .ovpn file into the router. Currently I run latest Merlin 380.65 firmware. I also used lower versions of Merlins firmware, which did not cause change in behaviour. I've puzzled a lot to get the config on higher speeds but it does not matter if I use UDP or TCP and / or change ports. Tried them all. I used the AirVPN generator set to router, country set to Netherlands and as described using either UDP or TCP trying multiple ports. I can understand that vpn causes overhead in traffic but dropping down to 10 Mbps is a bit too much. What can I do to speed things up?
  4. Hello everyone, would someone be able to help me with the below issue please - AirVPN client version - 2.10.3 OS - Windows 7 Networl lock - On I installed the client yesterday and have been try to use it, but what I am experiencing is that the connection is fine for 4-5 mins, with very good speeds, and then, suddenly, the speed goes done to single KB/Sec and I can't connect to anything at all. I disconnect and then reconnect and it again works fine for 4-5 mins and then the same issue. I tried many different servers but seeing the same result. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated. I am attaching the client's log for analysis. Thank you. Best regards.
  5. Hi I just installed the AirVPN client and spent the last 3hours looking through the forums on how to increase the speed of the download. I was downloading this torrent at an average of 2mb/s unfiltered, then I turn on AirVPN and its down to around 300 kb/s. I've forwarded a port, checked with open port check tool, set the port in utorrent, all that jazz. I've played around with the msfix cmd and theres not much change, I've set my buffers to max. My ISP speed is 200mb/s down 20mb/s up. My speed with AirVPN up is 44.46 Mb/s down, 17.15 mb/s up. I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. When I'm using airvpn (connected to recommended server, w/ping about 20-25), torrent speed is between 1-2 Kb/s. Without airvpn download speed is usually 5-6 MB/s, because I have connection 60 Mbit/s. Tested with different servers with manual connection. If I'm trying to download torrents and open websites, they're practically not opening. When there's no torrents, websites open OK.
  7. Is anyone able to get good speeds on Alcor? The most i was able to get was 4-5 mbits/second. Other servers nearby in Latvia and Lithuania can get 20-40 mbits per second.
  8. I have speed issues with global layer servers. Especially if I connect to ovh servers. I am connected to garnet (which is not under heavy load) and just get this: If I connect to Markab I get far better results: It would be great if other users could perform this test with the OVH Server in strasbourg: http://ovh.net/ My connection (without vpn) to global layer is great:
  9. Firstly I'm connecting from china so ssl or ssh is needed to connect to the airvpn servers I have tried switching between ssl and ssh before connecting to a server but none of them seem to help with the problem. I get max 350 KBps from the usenet server and while the connection is active to the usenet server I cant browse the internet it just says the dns server could not be reached. I tried disabling ssl to the usenet server and connecting to the normal usenet port but I get the same problem. Thanks in advance
  10. Hello, I've been using AirVPN for several months and I've recently noticed that I can't websurf normaly while using utorrent. Webpages are loading slowly and Youtube videos are very choppy. Of course, utorrent isn't eating my whole bandwidth or else I wouldn't have asked your help. utorrent is only using like 50% of my upload bandwidth and 20% of my download bandwidth. If I close Eddie (no VPN) everything goes back to normal. In other words, it only occurs when I'm using AirVPN. I've tried to change different settings, servers, protocols, buffer size, with or without forwarded port and it didn't fix my issue. I've also disabled my antivirus / firewall : still the same. Any advice ? Thanks for helping.
  11. I'm experiencing very slow speeds using AirVPN. I've been using another VPN service for a year now but their service is becoming crap, can't get a stable connection, so I'm looking for an alternative. Today I purchased a Trial of AirVPN to see what the service with them would be like. My ISP provides me 100Mbps download 10Mbps upload, but when connected through AirVPN servers, I get around 3Mbps download speeds, I can't understand why the connections are so bad and why the speeds are so slow and unstable, even when selecting servers located in the same country. Is this normal? Alternatives?
  12. Hey folks, so for some reason my VPN speeds have gone from about 20 or so mbit to about 10-500 kb/s. My phone is not even capable of establishing a connection it is so slow. I have tested it on different devices and on my cell network in case my wifi was acting up. It appears to me like Verizon is throttling my connection into oblivion, when i disable VPN everything goes back to normal 40-75 mbit or so, which is why i am making this assumption. i am on the east coast and my ping to Ontario Canada has gone from 70 or so ms to over 260 ms. Ill attach logs and see if they help any but any help is appreciated. AirVPN_20160516_154857.txt EDIT: It appears to have fixed itself, although i have absolutely no idea why it happened at all
  13. Hi I'm new to VPN. I've bin trying it out little over four month now, but speed is slow. I've read around and the TAP driver can't in my case be the problem. Is there any know problems regarding OS X ? Or are there some settings works best on Mac (Macbook Pro) ? The speed drop is most clearly when torrenting, but i feel it when browsing to. Youtube and other videos take forever to load and play and often stops and wait to load more data. When using uTorrent i can without VPN get almost max 3mb on 30mbit, but when using VPN it drops to maybe 100kb or lower. At good times i can get it to almost 1mb. And again, dropping VPN, speed just goes to the top. I use servers close to my country (Denmark). A funny thing is, when using Swedish servers they are a lot slower than using German or NL. I have a Macbook Pro mid2012 and i'm on wifi. Any idea to what might be the problem here ? All the best Carsten
  14. Hello! Recently I have been enjoying AirVPN, while having a 25Mbps Download/25Mbps Upload Fiber connection with Verizon FiOS. I was getting relatively good speeds, usually around 22 or 23 Mbps while connected to AirVPN, which was very good. However, this changed when, on Tuesday, I upgraded my internet speed from 25 Download/25 Upload to 50 Download/50 Upload. My speeds while not connected to AirVPN significantly increased. However, my speeds when connected to AirVPN only rose by 1 to 2 Mbps. I would like to find out why there is such a big difference between my speed while connected to AirVPN and my speed while not connected to AirVPN. I don't think this is the fault of any of the Air servers I am using, as they all support 1Gbps. I have included some speedtest.net results below, if it helps. Internet Speed while not connected to AirVPN Internet Speed while connected to AirVPN (UDP 443) (for this test, I was using Zosma, but other servers that I tried yielded similar results) I have also included the Eddie client's logs, if they are needed I 2016.04.07 16:08:54 - AirVPN client version: 2.10.3 / x64, System: Windows, Name: Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0 / x64 . 2016.04.07 16:08:54 - Reading options from C:\Program Files\AirVPN\AirVPN.xml . 2016.04.07 16:09:01 - Data Path: C:\Program Files\AirVPN . 2016.04.07 16:09:01 - App Path: C:\Program Files\AirVPN . 2016.04.07 16:09:01 - Executable Path: C:\Program Files\AirVPN\AirVPN.exe . 2016.04.07 16:09:01 - Command line arguments (0): . 2016.04.07 16:09:01 - Operating System: Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0 . 2016.04.07 16:09:01 - Updating systems & servers data ... . 2016.04.07 16:09:03 - Systems & servers data update completed I 2016.04.07 16:09:03 - OpenVPN Driver - TAP-Windows Adapter V9, version 9.9.2 I 2016.04.07 16:09:03 - OpenVPN - Version: OpenVPN 2.3.8 (C:\Program Files\AirVPN\openvpn.exe) I 2016.04.07 16:09:03 - SSH - Version: plink 0.63 (C:\Program Files\AirVPN\plink.exe) I 2016.04.07 16:09:03 - SSL - Version: stunnel 5.17 (C:\Program Files\AirVPN\stunnel.exe) W 2016.04.07 16:09:04 - Recovery. 15. Hi I'm new to VPN. I've bin trying it out little over at month now, but speed is slow. Any idea to what might be the problem here ? All the best Carsten
  16. I have a dual boot system with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and Windows 10 Pro 64. With the latest OpenVPM and TAP, and Eddie 2.10.3, everything works perfectly on Windows 7. Great speeds, no connection lag. However, with the EXACT same setup on Windows 10, the client will sit in an infinite loop trying to Check Route before failing. This is with Preferences->Advanced->DNS set to Automatic. If I manually set my Ethernet and Tap adapter DNS server to 10.50.0.1, and set Preferences->Advanced->DNS to Disable, and enter 10.50.0.1 in the server list there, the client will connect, but DNS lookups take 30+ seconds and frequently timeout, and leak tests reveal that my ISP DNS is being used, probably as a fallback. Is this a known bug with the Eddie client and Windows 10? Is there any way to solve this?
  17. All, So far good results. I signed up for AirVPN while the Phoenix, AZ server was listed as down. It has since been removed entirely. I would have liked to have a local server, and that's partially chose airVPN. Client works well on both Windows and Linux. Works well on cell traffic in OpenVPN for Android as well. (You need to ensure it's set up correctly for cell traffic to route properly though, default settings do not accomplish a correct route) I'll be checking for DNS leaks and packet tracing some test traffic over the next few days to really see how well the tunnels work. One typical speed test below from the provided test on the website. Overall 8/10. Down: 27.881 Mbit/s Out, 23.576 Mbit/s In (84%), 50MB - Up: 1.891 Mbit/s Out, 1.775 Mbit/s In (93%), 20MB - Date: Sat, 05 Dec 2015 19:47:20 GMT - Buffers: 50MB/20MB - Laps: 3, Time: 360.16 secs --- xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ping statistics --- 32 packets transmitted, 31 received, 3% packet loss, time 31053ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 21.427/23.465/30.945/1.578 ms Client: Phoenix, AZ VPN Server: Alkes -Nick
  18. Hey guys, Just bought AirVPN today because my uni's internet has restrictions. I'd used a free VPN earlier and used to get decent-ish speeds (~5-6Mbit/s) but then those are public. My uni's speed is great and I can get 50Mbit/s easily at times when there's low traffic. But when I', connected to Air I'm not getting more than 2-2.5Mbit/s on any server. I'm not sure if this is an error on my part or on AirVPN. I'll repeat that I've used free, public VPNs and they've given me better speeds, so I assume it's not a confg problem.
  19. Hi All, I want to buy a new router because I am using now a Asus RT-AC66u with merlin and the VPN speeds are extremely slow I only get 10 procent of my ISP speed.. The ASUS RT-AC3200 seems to be really cool. But what do you guys think is the best Airvpn router? Thanks!
  20. I've just joined AirVPN. I am on a Virgin Media UK Fibre 100mbps line, and I am getting 0-500kb/s on any server. I have tried sndbuf 524288, rcvbuf 524288 - it did nothing. Also, strangely, when disconnected from the AirVPN service, I cannot access https://airvpn.org/ or any of its children for a few minutes.
  21. Hi everybody, First off, I'm a bit of a VPN newbie - I've researched loads of various possible VPN providers and settled on AirVPN due to great reviews from real people (not stooges as far as I can tell), and an emphasis on privacy on community. These are more important to me than flashy big companies and promises. I've *just* joined AirVPN, chose the yearly pack due to the discount that ends today (and honestly I'm happy to give to a community like this, even if AirVPN doesn't work out in the log run, it was a conscious and informed decision to go the yearly route). My issue is that I'm getting extremely slow speeds having just installed the client. I've selected a few of the more recommended/speedier servers based on forums both here and other places online, and it's still very, very slow on all of them. I've searched forums but there really isn't many posts about slow speeds that I can find. I'm in Australia on cable internet. My non-VPN speed averages 30-35 Mbps. When the VPN is connected the highest speed I've had is 1.8 Mbps. My PC is decent - i5 2.8Ghz, 24GB RAM, Win 7 64 bit. I'm using the AirVPN client to connect using Automatic settings and Automatic Server (but have swapped around since to try to find faster locations). Not sure what else to say. I've got Comodo firewall which I've seen causes some issues sometimes with VPNs but I've allowed the relevant .exe and ports through and made the AirVPN client a Trusted Application. Is there something I'm missing? What could I try so that I can get better speeds? I've heard from other Australians that they can get 20-25 Mbps, so being under 2 Mbps makes me think it might be me, that I've done something wrong or not done something extra, or at least that it's on my end. Sorry for posting this as my first post.. I only get 1 post a day at the moment so I wanted to see if there was any help or tips people could provide before I can post back tomorrow. Not sure what other info is required - again, I'm not VPN savvy. Thanks in advance, I very much appreciate any help! Cheers
  22. Hey guys, I'm having another VPN issue, this time regarding FTP upload speeds. I followed this guide and it worked perfectly to connect to my FTP server, but trying to download something from the server is absolutely impossible. The first moment of connection will yield somewhere between 20 kB/s and 5 megs a second, but will deteriorate seemingly exponentially. I've let a connection run for half and hour or so, just to see what will happen, and the speed reaches a plateau at around 100 bytes a second. Obviously, I refuse to believe the VPN is at fault for this; I assume it's my ISP. I've checked out others with similar problems, but I haven't found any solutions. In total, I have tried to download the file via my own IP, a DDNS pointing to the VPN server, the VPN server's exit IP, and the LAN address. From the LAN address, everything is as expected - a speed that is normal for me, about 3 megs. When connecting through my WAN IP through port 21 (which is correctly forwarded), I get a connection timeout error (Something I need to investigate). When connecting through the VPN or the DDNS, the problem I described above plagues me. Below is what I monitored by eye when trying to download a file: 3.42 MB/s 19 kB/s 14 kB/s 12 kB/s 10 kB/s 9 kB/s 8 kB/s 7 kB/s 6.9 kB/s 6.4 kB/s 5.5 kB/s 4.8 kB/s 4.3 kB/s 4.02 kB/s 3.65 kB/s 3.21 kB/s 2.98 kB/s ... (it continues to fall, but I stopped the connection there) And here is the log that it gave. I don't know if the information will be useful, though, since I prematurely terminated the connection. If anyone can give me a hand, I'd really appreciate it!
  23. Hello everyone, I purchased AirVPN recently to keep my torrent traffic private, and am just now getting around to putting it to use. However, I'm getting some extremely slow speeds, or rather no speed at all. I'm using the AirVPN client and letting it connect to a recommended server, but consistently get 0 B/s (Yes, that's B/s) download and upload. It will occasionally jump to ~100 B/s, or even ~100 KB/s, but drops back to 0 B/s shortly after. I also took the speed test on this website which gave the following results: Down: 0.477 Mbit/s Out, 0.470 Mbit/s In (98%), 1MB - Up: 0.382 Mbit/s Out, 0.322 Mbit/s In (84%), 1MB - Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2015 19:28:09 GMT - Buffers: 1MB/1MB - Laps: 3, Time: 325.56 secs Not quite 0 B/s like the AirVPN client says, but still unacceptably slow considering I get around 50-60 Mbits/s download and upload (Verizon) when not connected to the VPN. I'm a total greenhorn when it comes to just about anything networking, and assume I messed something up when trying to configure the VPN with my torrent client (Deluge), so I'm just going to go into what exactly I've done so far and then maybe someone here can give me some guidance. First, I followed the P2P optimization guide found here: https://airvpn.org/faq/p2p/ In the end, my settings look like this: http://i.imgur.com/SnGiGJ9.png Which looks correct to me, for whats its worth. Second, I setup Windows firewall rules to block Deluge's connection in the event that the VPN unexpectedly disconnects, or I forget to turn it on or something. I did so following this guide: https://vpn.ac/knowledgebase/55/Windows-Firewall-rules-to-block-P2PorTorrent-traffic-if-VPN-disconnects.html I tested to make sure it works with the little speed I have and it does seem to work. I'll get a few KB/s while connected to the VPN, and it will stop or start back up when I disconnect and reconnect to the VPN respectively. Aside from those two things, I've done nothing else, and don't even know if there is still more I need to do aside from those two things. I'm hoping the pros here can point me in the right direction because what I've tried to find out on my own so far has been fruitless. Thanks in advance!
  24. Hello -- Whenever I connect to airvpn my download/upload speeds are fine. I get full throughput downloading any number of files. However, over time (say maybe one or two days), my connection eventually slows to a halt. Any given torrent will download at 1k/s and I'm unable to seed any torrents. When this happens I've always simply restarted the VPN, and speeds immediately go back up to the previous max. Is there anything I may have overlooked that would cause this behavior? Thanks.
  25. Hello, i've been an air vpn client for some time now and recently i've found that my bandwidth is 50-75% lower in tunnel then out. I have a direct connection to the router have a 50/50U/D connection that is confirmed out of tunnel. My general configuration is UDP 443 I've also tried 80 and using TCP nothing helped. I was hoping that someone could help walk me through steps that can improve my configuration. (update) I would also like to mention i've tried using an SSL configuration and no dice. I've read through multiple threads and I think maybe my ISP is caping but I doubt it any advice would be most appreciated . Thank you Dan
