  1. @P.Bear

    Hello!

It's actually not easy to maintain 100 MB/s = 800 Mbit/s (1.6 Gbit/s on the server) in our infrastructure. Try to prefer Europe (or Netherlands) 20 Gbit/s servers to beat the 560 Mbit/s limit you currently experience, which is anyway a good performance in AirVPN if you consult the top user tables. Also open a ticket, as some optimization could help you gain some more performance especially when dealing with torrenting, where external (not depending on the VPN server itself) variables enter into play.

    Kind regards

  2. Hello!

Try to switch to WireGuard and check whether performance improves or not. Also test various, different servers around your location:

    • from Eddie's main window select "Preferences" > " Protocols"
    • uncheck "Automatic"
    • select a line with some WireGuard connection. When selected the line will be highlighted
    • click "Save"
    • re-start a connection to apply the change

    Kind regards

  3. Hello!

Yes, it's possible. On Eddie Android edition go to the "AIRVPN SERVER" tab. By long tapping a country or a server you can add it to the favorite list, to the forbidden list, or to the default list, in case you need that last list for connections during the device bootstrap. You may also generate profiles and export configuration files, both for WIreGuard and OpenVPN, like you do with the web site Configuration Generator for a specific server or country.

On Eddie Desktop edition "white" and "black" lists (favorites and forbidden servers or countries) can be configured in the "Servers" window and in the "Countries" window.

    Kind regards

Thank you...I just uninstalled Airvpn and OpenVPN, then reinstalled.

    Hello,
is the problem solved? If not, please see here to force Eddie not to use the "alien" Kaspersky interface which causes a critical error to OpenVPN:
    https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/56643-stuck-in-a-broken-route-never-connects/?do=findComment&comment=225323

Also, you don't need to remove Kaspersky VPN, but just make sure you don't use two different VPN at the same time.

    Kind regards

@Staff In your Black Friday post you mention:

190 commits sounds like a pretty big divergence from the upstream OpenVPN 3. Are you planning to merge it to upstream or is it a hard fork?

    Hello!

In 2019 we pushed a commit with a major new feature for OpenVPN3 library but it was refused by the maintainer (Arne Schwabe) for stylistic reasons. In the opinion of some of us it's their (OpenVPN3 maintainers) style to be ugly, but OK it's a matter of personal tastes so the text format and spacing was changed accordingly and a new commit was ready.

The new commit was again refused, this time because the source code included tags mentioning the source code author "ProMIND". We couldn't fully understand why the author should not be mentioned in the source code itself, moreover the tags were useful for another purpose, but fine, all tags were removed and a new commit was ready.

The new commit was again refused, this time because the identity of the source code author ProMIND was not certified. In general we do not disclose the identity of our employees and collaborators, much less force them to certify it with any third party, and leave to them the choice to disclose real identity and certify it. The request was strange and we asked for some clarification. It came out, even from other OpenVPN community members, that the requirement was related to a specific contractual agreement mentioned here: https://github.com/OpenVPN/openvpn3/blob/master/CLA.rst

At that point we did not like the situation: please note that a new problem was mentioned only after each new commit was proposed, while it would have been fair that all problems were mentioned at the same time, obviously, since the very beginning. And we did not like anymore to allow OpenVPN Inc. to re-license under any new license our or ProMIND's code, which is under GPLv3, according to the mentioned contributor's agreement, specifically part II, (e) clause:
"(e) I understand that OpenVPN Inc. may relicense this project, this contribution, and any modification to it under any license. [...]".

Therefore we did not waste additional time on the matter and we went on with our fork without further ado. At this very moment we have no merging/commit plans.

On a lighter tone, this thread dated 2019 is funny in the last part:
    https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/43850-openvpn-3-development/
because one of the AirVPN community moderators defended OpenVPN style and Schwabe refusals, and wrote: "If you had contributed to the Linux kernel like that, Linus would tear you to tiny bits." Ironically, after that message was written, Linus Torvalds examined OpenVPN code and he was horrified. :D

    Kind regards

Hi, I am always getting this error when I SSH into my Raspberry Pi and try to do stuff with Goldcrest. I have already added "Jack" to the AirVPN group. But it still doesnt work, same error.

    jack@jack ~ $ goldcrest --disconnect
    Goldcrest - AirVPN Bluetit Client 1.3.0 - 1 June 2023

2023-11-24 17:00:26 Reading run control directives from file /home/jack/.config/goldcrest.rc
2023-11-24 17:00:26 DBusConnectorException: DBusConnector: not primary owner (2)

    Any ideas?

    Hello!

"Not primary owner" hints to some other Goldcrest process already running, can you please check?

My question, is the VPN IP I'm connecting to, and the VPN IP that's actually forwarding my requests, the same one?

    Hello!

They are different. Your system connects to an entry-IP address and then you exit on the Internet with a different IP address. It is a very important feature which prevents various and dangerous correlation attacks which would reveal (to an attacker) your real IP address (even with Network Lock on).

    Kind regards

is there something I need to do to fix this or is just an occasional occurrence, and this happens here and there?

If it happens only now and then you are probably fine: disconnections may happen for various events on the Internet, for example DHCP lease renewal, temporary upstream unavailability, temporary routing problem, ISP various problems... but if the disconnections are quite frequent please open a ticket to receive proper assistance. As a first attempt, anyway, if you connect via WiFi, try to get a stronger signal and change channel. Please see here about WiFi channels and the paramount importance to select the correct one if you have neighbors using WiFI too:
    https://www.metageek.com/training/resources/why-channels-1-6-11/

    Quote

Since I had Network Lock activated, my IP was not leaked during that 2 minute disconnection, right?

Correct. No traffic leaks were possible because Network Lock is a set of firewall rules, so only a system administrator resetting firewall rules could wipe out the Network Lock protection.

    Kind regards

  9. Hello!

Probably Eddie is really running as the message says. Can you please check whether Eddie is minimized? Please search for Eddie's tray icon in the system tray. Click the "up" arrow to see all the hidden tray icons. Eddie's tray icon is a small cloud in a circle. If you find it, please double-click it and Eddie's main window should pop up. The system tray is (if you have Windows 11 default settings) on one corner (usually the right hand side) of the bottom task bar.

If you manage to bring up the main window, you can disable the promotional messages permanently in Preferences > UI window. Check Skip promotional messages (remember to uncheck it when the promotion ends if you want to be promptly informed about future promotions, because the option disables not only the current message but also any future one - this is not necessary in Eddie Android edition which disables the current promotional message and not the future ones).

    Kind regards

AirVPN is one of the oldest and most experienced consumer VPN on the market, operating since 2010. It never changed ownership and it was never sold out to data harvesting or malware specialized companies as it regrettably happened to several competitors. Ever since 2010 AirVPN has been faithful to its mission.

AirVPN does not inspect and/or log client traffic and offers:

    • five simultaneous connections per account
    • remote port forwarding
    • WireGuard support on all servers
    • flexible and customizable opt-in block lists protecting you from adware, trackers, spam and other malicious sources. You can customize answers or exceptions globally, at account level or even at single device level.
    • powerful API
    • IPv6 full support
    • comfortable access to your client certificates and keys management
    • AES-GCM and ChaCha20 OpenVPN ciphers on all servers
    • Perfect Forward Secrecy with unique per-server 4096 bit Diffie-Hellman keys
    • active daemons load balancing for unmatched high performance - current 'all time high' on client side is 730 Mbit/s with OpenVPN and 1046 Mbit/s with WireGuard
    • internal DNS. Each server runs its own DNS server. DNS over HTTPS and DNS over TLS are also supported.
    • free software support to traffic splitting on an application basis on Android and Linux (alpha testing) and on a destination basis on Windows and macOS

AirVPN is the only VPN provider which is actively developing OpenVPN 3 library with a fork that's currently 190 commits ahead of OpenVPN master and adds key features and bug fixes for a much more comfortable and reliable experience:
    https://github.com/AirVPN/openvpn3-airvpn

AirVPN, in accordance with its mission, develops only free and open source software for many platforms, including Android, Linux (both x86 and ARM based systems), macOS and Windows.
Promotion due to end on 2023-12-03 (UTC).

    Kind regards & datalove

  11. @brainfister

    Hello!

In this case it's plausible that the configuration file is corrupt. Corruption of the configuration file is a very rare event: statistically, 1 out of 2500 users had this problem this year so far with 2.21.8 version, according to tickets and computing a ratio between those tickets and the average amount of paying customers, but it still happens, we're sorry. Delete the configuration file while Eddie is not running and check whether the problem gets resolved. How to locate the configuration file:
    https://eddie.website/support/data-path/

By default, its name is default.profile. If, after the above procedure, the problem is not resolved, then our suspect is wrong. Please open a ticket and pay attention not to hijack threads of other persons.

    Kind regards

  12. @pHxaq

    Hello!

Please log your account out and in again (in the main Eddie window) to force Eddie to re-download all keys. This procedure is mandatory each time you create a new certificate/key pair ("device"), or you renew a current one. When you re-log in, a combo box must appear under the credential fields listing all the available "devices".

    Kind regards

  13. @bluesjunior

    Hello!

Oh wait, that's just the choice of speedtest routines which are based on your node geo-location and maybe even on their server pool availability. It's not relevant to ascertain the routes and transit providers of the VPN server, so the whole issue is probably nonexistent. Anyway, feel free to verify with traceroute or mtr, those tools don't lie. :)

    Kind regards

  14. Hello!

Thank you, you're indeed a long time customer! The behavior you mention is odd as according to the datacenter all Dutch servers have direct presence on AMS-IX. If you notice this thing again, can you please warn us and send us a traceroute to some service (while you're connected to the VPN server of course)? It might be just a different routing with another transit provider under specific circumstances, but let's see.

    Kind regards

Any updates in regards to this new server?

    Hello!

We're sorry, we have a delay due to a clause of the contract we are not comfortable with. If the matter can not be resolved, we can anyway rely on our current provider in NZ. Please stay tuned, in one way or another we definitely need to add bandwidth in NZ, and soon.

    Kind regards

May I ask what and how I would know if ads are in the main Video Stream please?

At the moment I am still getting ads at the start and end, with a five second delay before I can click out and back to what I'm watching. I'm getting less ads, I think however this may just be wishful thinking.

Is this the sort of thing that I just have to accept as the normal or can these be blocked some how?

    Hello!

How to mitigate or block YouTube ads is a matter of hot debates on various forums. It's outside the scope of AirVPN, though, we're sorry. You might like to research on your own.

have also gone into API. I don't really know what to do so I just hit an API key and made it active. I've no idea what its doing.

  17. Hello!

The features you ask for are included in any plan.

The system is very flexible and offers some exclusive features never seen before in other VPN services:

    • You can activate or de-activate, anytime, any combination of lists.
    • You can add customized exceptions and/or additional blocks.
    • Any specified domain which must be blocked includes all of its subdomains too.
    • Lists which can return custom A,AAAA,CNAME,TXT records are supported.
    • You can define any combination of block lists and/or exceptions and/or additions for your whole account or only for specific certificate/key pairs of your account (Client Area ⇨ Devices ⇨ Details ⇨ DNS)
    • Different matching methods are available for your additions and exceptions: Exact (exact FQDN), Domain (domain and its subdomains), Wildcard (with * and ? as wildcards), Contain, Start with, End with.
    • An API to fetch every and each list in different formats (see Client Area API dns_lists service) is active
    • Any change in your selected list(s), any added exception and any added block is enforced very quickly, within few tens of seconds. You don't need to disconnect and re-connect your account.
    • You can define your own lists and discuss lists and anything related in the community forum here
Essential requisite to enjoy the service is, of course, querying AirVPN DNS while your system is connected to some VPN server, which is by the way a default setup if you run any of our software. Please see also:
    https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/49876-new-feature-dns-block-lists/

Please note that YouTube may include ads in the main video stream, therefore no DNS based ad blocker is totally effective against YouTube ads.

    Kind regards

  18. Hello!

Google Search should never be used for privacy reasons (Google profiling techniques are so advanced that you risk to create a correlation between your real identity and your VPN identity at the tiniest error) and ethical reasons, but you can rely on startpage.com if you really need Google Search. Startpage will proxy your queries to Google Search and serve you back Google reply, therefore an additional protection layer stands between your node and Google and you usually avoid captchas. A very good search engine offering privacy protection commitment is Brave Search:
    https://search.brave.com

    Kind regards
