  1. Interesting I'm on an even older version 2.8.8 - because frankly if it ain't broke don't fix it. Namely I had to go though some hell years back to get tunnel adapter driver version right for any decent throughput performance on winsrv2k8r2 in vm or out, got everything just right finally using older version tap and so was paranoid about the 2.10.x+ installers trying to automatically install a new one - or so I read at the time, along with auto enabling all this network lock stuff I don't need\want by default that I forever pushed off touching anything.  Anyway, I've had no problems of late with 2.8.8 that the post is about.

That said I got the popup message today via the software that I should upgrade, and it's been on my mind anyway (was waiting for 2.16. with ip6 to get stable\mature before screwing with it) but will attempt to move to 2.15.x give the nudge from air and 2.0 infrastructure rolling out.  Can anyone anwser off hand if 2.15.x it's going to try to install the newer tap driver and turn on network lock by default or are those options during\before install now in 2.15.x?  Guess I should go find that old thread thread with the 9.something.2 and .3 driver before starting so I have it as a backup, cause I'm nearly positve the latest will be problematic - for me.

Network lock will not run at installation and by default does not run when the app is started.  (you can enable it to run at app startup if you wanted to do so)  So, you should be happy with that.

I haven't heard much complaining of tap drivers for a while now so the newest one may be OK???  Somebody else will have to answer that specific question.

  2. 1) Selectivity of server locations is a pro, not a con.  And live chat support would either be expensive or useless.

    2) They don't mention great things such as creating multiple "devices"/keys, port forwarding with dynamic DNS, the best config generator I've ever seen.

    3) The alternatives they mention are insulting.

These servers have been good for me until now.  Corvus just stopped giving access to the internet.  I couldn't ping an IP or anything.  But, I could still ping the VPN gateway, so the tunnel was up.

Connected to a different location for now.

Yea I just noticed the web browsing (page loading) turned to crap on Fafnir which I was getting great speed with speedtest. Frankly my actual ISP speed. All of a sudden no pages would load. :-( Currently trying out Mico in Chicago I guess. Funny isn't said to be Chicago when Speedtests sees the closest test point in MD.

Fafnir is currently being used heavily by somebody.  Maybe that's why your speed went down?  Certainly doesn't look like a problem with that server.

Don't know where your seeing that since that stats page shows: "8 / 1000 Mbit/s" and only 37 people connected. Even if someone was heavily using it I highly doubt it would be so much to where a basic web page wouldn't even load. Seems Corvis has a status with High Packet Loss which is why it tanked.

Fafnir just updated with low packet loss. I expect this to become more widespread since they all have been problematic this morning.

You must have missed it because for a while it was over 800mbit/s usage, with one person in the top 10 speed section at 380mbit/s on Fafnir.  Then a couple minutes later it was very little usage.

  5. All,

i've battled this with every provider that offers this service.    Every other device on my network i can stream amazon or netflix just fine using a Airvpn tunnel.

i have a static ip address for the TV.  i have the ability to change IP, subnet and gateway and DNS settings.  its currently hardwired directly to my ubnt 5 port switch.  no vlan settings setup

i have tried 10.4.0.1,  8.8.8.8, 208.67.222.222.    and Netflix ONLY shows that i am using a unblocker. amazon streams just fine.   if i open netflix and run a network test i get 3 green check marks and says its all good.

if i change the gateway utilized to WAN.   i can stream just fine using any of the above DNS servers.

    any suggestions?

Yep, some devices work against us.  With the recent changes to add the ability to stream Netflix again I've seen two devices (shield tv and apple tv) that work great, including Amazon.  But, a roku ultra doesn't.  So, who knows?  I'm grateful to have AirVPN anyway.

When I check route to my WAN IP those Phoenix servers fail while no other server does.

I guess I shouldn't have said anything.  Now a whole lot more servers fail besides the Phoenix ones.

Is anything being changed that's causing this or is it my ISP?

Nope, I'm having sudden problems with constant disconnects to all servers in the US right now... Canada is fine tho.

I'm not talking about connections failing.  Just the route checking to my WAN IP.

Has AirVPN implemented any option to prevent multiple clients from connecting to the same server when using "Connect to a recommended server" in Eddie or when using a country/continent endpoint from the configurator page? Seems like this could be implemented at AirVPN's end without additional info/logging since AirVPN knows what servers a given account is connected to at any given time, as seen in the "Overview" page in the client area of the website.

We approached the problem differently. Instead of limitations you now have additional options. Please see here:

    https://airvpn.org/topic/26209-how-to-manage-client-certificatekey-pairs/

    Kind regards

Thanks you for the info. I have setup a different key for each of my devices. I am unclear on how this works with port forwarding though. Can you please explain.

You had a mini-necro bump there so I think Staff were not replying regarding port fowarding but only regarding what you had in your post, which doesn't mention port forwarding.

So, your DNS was always AirVPN DNS but actual Netflix IPs were routed outside the VPN Tunnel....and a few days ago Netflix stopped working.  Do I understand things right?

It sounds like when Air "fixed" things so that Netflix could be accessed through the VPN (see their announcements) is when things stopped working for you.

Perhaps you should just try to use Netflix through the VPN instead of now routing Netflix traffic and DNS outside the VPN?

Yes you are all right in your understandings.

And yes netflix works when both dns+traffic is routed through the tunnel.

But: i use e.g. amazon fire tv stick with netflix app - and if i route the whole traffic from fire tv stick through the tunnel, netflix is working well, but amazon video shows me "geo ip blocked" on many videos (maybe my account is registered in a specific country).

So the solution amazon+netflix outside tunnel seems to fit best for me because i didn't want to overcome the geo-blocking - if anyone want's to - it could get difficulty (when easy to use is a premise)...

I also agree to you "it sounds like when Air "fixed" things so that Netflix could be accessed through the VPN is when things stopped working..."

that's what i want to say: a dns can only resolve one geo location directly, or you have to manage an enormous set of rules - it seems that airvpn does what most of the customers want (an US geo location for netflix) - so i have to configure my own rule set to use amazon+netflix outside the tunnel, inside my own geo location with airvpn (uncensored) dns.

Ah, yes, I understand about Amazon.  Fortunately, the servers I've used (USA) had Amazon working as well.

  10. I would prefer to stick to the network-manager-openvpn since it's much more tested and widely used than your client.

So, is there a solution to prevent this DNS issue with it?

Sigh.  Did you even read what they wrote to you?  Quote from their reply "You would need a script to modify your resolv.conf if network-manager-openvpn can't do that by accepting the DNS push".

    There is your answer.

Not everything will be done for you in life.  Sometimes you must put in a little effort.

  11.

but Netflix would not allow me to play any of the content because I was using an unblocker or proxy. This is occurring only on my Android TV boxes. My Android tablets and Windows PCs are working well with Netflix USA on any server that I have tried so far.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello!

We're glad to know that you can access Netflix from all of the Air servers you tested. From your description the Android TV box, or the Netflix application running in it, might send out DNS queries to specific DNS servers, instead of ours. Unfortunately you are just a user on an Android system (not an administrator), so you lack the proper privileges to force packets redirection to specific DNS IP addresses.

We wonder how we can help this situation from our side, we will think about it seriously.

    Kind regards

The odd thing is I use a Shield TV (android tv) and I don't have a problem.  I do have a problem with my roku not working.  I did create rules in pfsense to redirect DNS queries to other IP to 10.4.0.1 but still no luck.  The Shield TV and Apple TV worked even without creating rules to redirect queries to 10.4.0.1.  I don't know how the roku is figuring it out.  But, perhaps the other android tv box of Petanquer is doing the same thing or similar.

P.S. I setup another VPN provider just for the Roku with all the same firewall rules I'd tried for AirVPN and Netflix *did work*.  However they do it, the roku can't suss it out.
