LZ1 reacted to Khariz in connection my torrent client to AirVPN, question on airvpn client   ...
I use Tixati as well.  You don't need to do anything special at all to make Tixati Work.  Literally just connect to AirVPN, open Tixati, and use it right out of the box.  The default port that Tixati uses, 22130, tunnels just fine without any extra setting work.  You can verify this on ipleak.net by using the torrent checking feature.

If you want to make 100% sure that Tixati can't use anything other than the TAP adapter, all you have to do is go to settings,  Network, Connections, then go down to "Local IPv4 address or interface", select the three dots ..., and select the TAP adapter.  Then the TAP adapter is bound to the program and it can't use any other adapters.

Actually Kepler, don't bother replying to my last posts. I've said the same things to you 2-3 times and it just gets ignored mostly.

Just forget all my posts, as I found a (hilarious) video that pretty much perfectly sums up what I want to say (minus the insults, naturally):

I was indeed being stupid. Windows firewall sees the VPN as a public network and for some reason the default setup for a public network is to block all incoming traffic including through ports already opened in the firewall.

I hope this helps someone in the future

LZ1 got a reaction from ~Daniel~ in quick questions from a new user about to start a 3-day trial   ...
    Hello!

Welcome to AirVPN! That's a long list of quick questions.

That post is from 2013 and so if you check the changelog you'll find that Network Lock first got implemented in 2014, in version 2.5. Network Lock modifies the firewall - which was what his post was complaining about. No issues there I should think. Likewise, if you read the ToS you'll find:
It's not a speed limit, it's an amount of download limit, in the case of reimbursements. But I don't think there's any other limits on free trials, much. But as you can see on the front page, Air does guarantee various minimums. Which isn't so common in VPNs I believe, as it's hard to live up to a minimum. But that just shows Airs confidence in their infrastructure I suppose.

Since you sound quite reliant on Comodo, I urge you to go for 2.11. instead, exactly because of WFP. The client is free to download regardless anyhow, in case one doesn't work over the other.

Torrent guides are already covered in my new user guide, likewise, you can find a good few posts talking about the security of port-forwarding elsewhere. It doesn't matter where you torrent to/from, as long as you check via things like ipleak.net there's no leak and have your client configured right, which isn't a huge deal luckily. I'm not sure about the Deluge binding, but in qBittorent you simply bind to a selected interface such as tun0, without needing an IP address. But in the Eddie client, you can enable a checkbox which forces re-connections to the same server, thus giving you the same IP address. Or use a black/white listing of servers. I'm not sure how you imagine P2P to work if you don't want to upload though. AirVPN fully allows P2P by the way and doesn't care about DMCA requests.

I also don't think you need to make CIS into a killswitch - but it's up to you. There's many around here who have alternative software setups, that act as killswitches and/or firewalls - such as pfSense. I think it's expected for NL to turn off when Eddie closes; Staff said so somewhere, I think. I just can't remember where. But if Eddie crashed, I think you'd still be safe, since it wouldn't have managed to restore the original firewall rules then. I also think most people would expect NL to go off, if they closed Eddie. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to get online and that's one of the most frequent topics to be created around here. As usual, the solution is to set everything to Obtain Automatically.

Give it a whirl - if anything, 3 more days costs 1 euro or 1 dollar lol. Which you could get reimbursed anyway, haha.

    LZ1 reacted to ~Daniel~ in CactusVPN   ...
I've been using CactusVPN for two years now, and decided that I would look around at my options.  Currently I have a request in to trial AirVPN, which I'm sure is just postponing my inevitable subscription as I really like what I am reading in these forums, across the website(s), and the "air"/community of AirVPN.

I'm realizing that I had some pretty good tunnel vision, as these forums and my search for alternate VPN's have shown me; that there are many more things to consider besides a "kill switch" for your P2P client on a VPN... so I'm looking forward to educating myself as time goes by and asking questions here as I get more interested in my privacy, and other important topics.

CactusVPN did deliver a product that I felt served me well for my purposes at the time.  Their client was pretty minimalistic, their countries/servers were small, but connections were quite good, and I often hit my 25Mb bandwidth capacity.

I never new about nor checked for IP/DNS Leaks, so I can't comment on that.

I also didn't have much of a relationship with them either except for paying my annual subscription.  No community per say, nor did they go out of their way to engage me.

If you like closing your eyes and look at a VPN subscription like a black box, use a client with a few settings (and a kill switch), and only want your part to involve handing over some cash annually to keep the "party" going... CactusVPN won't disappoint.

I guess you could say that I wanted more.

LZ1 got a reaction from Khariz in What do you think about "Windscribe" ?   ...
I have to say that's false and quite a worrying statement coming from you, the supposed Founder.
The very notion that trust is required, serves as a weak point, as the trust is merely a substitute for actual verifiable assurance. The less explicit "trust" required, the better. There's been plenty of cases where closed-source software has caused problems. Not just with security, but with other things too. Your misuse of the word "paranoid" serves only to undermine legitimate security and privacy concerns. A network analyzer also won't help if the software contains malware which doesn't need network communications. If the client is so simple as you say, then it should also be a simple matter of making it open-source, no? Then the "truly paranoid" will have even more avenues of auditing and trust in the client will increase. So while you could argue the case of closed source software being alright, I think you picked the wrong brand of software to do it on, since it's security-related and open-source is one of the building blocks of a secure system. You claim the "truly paranoid" could simply use a network analyzer tool, but I think that's a bad argument, seeing as the "truly paranoid" would avoid your software altogether, upon finding out it's closed. Thus you're left with users who can't or won't check such things - which seems irresponsible, given not all users will know the significance of closed vs open source software and thus might unknowingly put their security or privacy at risk. Security isn't just 1 product after all - as you said, there's other factors one should be concerned about. Well, the client is one of them. Someone around here made a thread which showed that a client from another VPN provider acted in some very malicious ways too.

Well yeah. I would've voted for him too, out of that lineup. He was also the only candidate out of that lineup, to voice any concern over the surveillance state actually. So that's a plus.

    @Kepler
That should be a given. But it seems meaningless to do so, as you wouldn't condemn deliberate attacks the other way, as you presumably continue to believe they're all accidental. The damage to them is also far far greater than the damage they've done to us; 9/11 included. "Them" being both the actual fighters/terrorists, but also their societies/countries. Likewise, it is unclear if you see anything wrong with starting the illegal wars to begin with. Which then help cause those attacks on the West, which then consequently lead to the same-old solutions: increased surveillance for all of us. At least it's good for Airs bottom line, in a sad way, haha.

I was not attempting to say your opinions or those of the other posters were nonsense, merely that the environment that you are voicing your opinions in is improper.

The last thing this community needs is a Conservative-Liberal debate thread shit show.

In case you have not noticed, these debates go no where and just leave both sides more pissed off than they were before. This topic is something that you will rarely if ever change someones views of.

I personally prefer this debate stay out of AirVPN's forums. Obviously this is an off topic forum, so you are within your ability to post here but i would suggest you take these debates somewhere else simply because of their destructive nature.

This isn't Reddit or 4chan, you will see the same people with the same views here again. The forum members that participate here will certainly have a constant presence here on the forums, myself included. I would prefer that when the people in this thread see each others posts in other threads, they are not influenced by their political views that are being posted here.

For example, you probably now believe folks such as LZ1 and OmniNegro are facist, sexist, racist, homophobes etc. Now LZ1 and OmniNegro may think you are a liberal marxist, anti capitalist, BLM supporter etc.

These are sentiments that should absolutely stay out of our forums, as they could encourage hate elsewhere in different threads later.

This is my opinion and i have voiced it.

If you want to continue, fine. But don't say i didn't warn you.

Please feel free to link in reputable sources for information on the "Wins" providers and end users have over the Goliaths of commercial content.

Most will not know much about my first link to this. Usenet is a very old system that literally predates the Internet entirely. For this case to make sense to you, you need to first understand that Usenet providers do not post nor directly provide content to anyone. Users post content, and the servers hosting it all all interconnected. They each share everything, and none has the capacity to filter any subject on their own.

I could tell you much more about how it works, but you can learn elsewhere. This thread is for us to share the big wins. And this one will have a precedent for decades to come.

*Edit* You may want to read the PDF for the full result. It has a better wording for many ambiguous parts of my vague description of Usenet and the varied innuendo under which Giganews was serving the content in question. If Torrent Freak should incur too much hosting cost, all they need to do is change the URL and I will find another host for it. (I doubt it will happen, but we only have one Internet. We must preserve it as best we can.)

(Someone kindly let me know if the link goes down. I have a copy preserved forever on a hard drive. If the link does not work, just let me know. I will fix it.)

I am eagerly awaiting more *Wins* as time goes one. This was but a domino. A big domino, but just one. If the morons at "Perfect 10" had tried Astraweb first and moved on to the big fish after defeating one of the little dogs then they could have actually managed to win. But they got greedy and tried for a richer reward all at once. The devil does not indulge a glutton.

If the courts had not denied the naming of the CEO from the countersuit, he would owe millions.

Well, I have drank a small amount of alcohol. So I had better stop lest I go on a crazy rant to destroy all mankind. Good night everyone.

    @Kepler:
That's more like prejudiced, not racist. Muslim isn't a race either. They're often conflated:

    noun
1.an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.2.any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.3.unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or religious group. It also strikes me as being somewhat two-faced (for lack of a better expression sorry) that you would make the case for racism by using the Muslim ban as evidence, before going on to tell him to "rescind your fatwa". A fatwa being something an Islamic scholar would put out, even though there's no evidence in his last post that he has Muslim leanings and thus you're seemingly making a mockery of the very people and diversity you're trying to defend. @Omni:I don't think Kepler likes Hillary either, to be fair. Was there a particular candidate which you did like? Bernie? Jill? Maybe even Marco Rubio? He's kind of funny . I imagine you might go for someone like Ron Paul.

Kepler, you are the only one here who discriminates against everyone other than yourself and the Democratic party.

You have to date called me racist six times. You have called me sexist too. And what evidence do you have for this? None. You cannot help but discriminate against people for the high crime of having an opinion that does not match yours.

According to your literal posts in the last few hours, every single vote for Trump is motivated exclusively by racism. Since you literally say Trum is racist, please show some proof. No, not just evidence he wants a wall. Show me he actually is racist. Until you do, I am going to respond to every annoying post you make and demand proof of each and every claim you make. Why? Because you are annoying and asinine. Oh, and since turnabout is fair, I guess I should accuse you of being a racist, a sexist, and a criminal. Have a very nice day.

Don't put words into my mouth please.

1 - The US barely has democracy to begin with.
2 - DT will hardly do a worse job than Hillary or the nearest equivalent. Including Obama. The difference is rather, that he's more obvious in what he does.
3 - I like democracy. But as I said in another comment, it has to be genuine. Which currently, it often isn't. Especially in the US.
4 - Maybe if it did crumble, it can be re-built and people may actually value it then, as well as derive actual value from it. As opposed to now, where democracy has been hijacked by corporations.

As per number 2: Under Obama for instance, drone strikes have increased hugely. But what it really amounts to, is closer to some kind of global assasination campaign. After all, they can attack anyone they like. Now imagine if Iran was doing random drone strikes in the US and justified it with that it's simply "hunting down terrorists". How would you feel? Probably none too safe. Well that's what the US has been doing and is continuing to do. Now, I respect you, but I find it quite troubling that you appear to either refuse or be unwilling to understand the other side of events. I get that you're against Trump, as well as Hillary. But it's not enough to just act outraged when your values are stomped on - you also, in my opinion, need to understand things in more ways than one. Which I don't feel that you're doing. I'm not asking for you to be Pro-Russia or Pro-DT at all or even Anti-US or Anti-Democracy and so on. But simply that you display a more nuanced point of view .

Of course, I don't control you and don't want to either, so these are my views. I just think that it gets a little repetitive being shocked/outraged at DT and, in a sense, almost exaggerating the damage he'll do. Because I struggle to see how it would be any different, if he weren't elected. Now I'm talking about democracy of course. In terms of climate change, he's the undisputed nightmare I suppose .

LZ1 reacted to Staff in China announces mass shutdown of VPNs that bypass Great Firewall   ...
It's very different in this case. Netflix can just allow only IP addresses that are assigned to residential ISPs, and this method is very effective for a centralized server that needs to filter inbound connections.

From China, it is not applicable, because any end-service does NOT run on machines connected to residential ISPs. Enforcing the same block would be equivalent to shut down the whole Internet for any service outside (and several inside) China. Not that it's impossible, but the economic consequences would be catastrophic even for the establishment. China faces the opposite problem: block outbound connections to an arbitrary amount of servers, not inbound connections to a single service from an arbitrary amount of clients.

This does not mean anyway that we do not expect that China will implement more sophisticated ways to disrupt connections to VPN servers abroad.

    Kind regards

    Hello!

We're very glad to inform you that a new 1 Gbit/s server located in Austria is available: Caelum.

The AirVPN client will show automatically the new server, while if you use the OpenVPN client you can generate all the files to access it through our configuration/certificates/key generator (menu "Client Area"->"Config generator").

The server accepts connections on ports 53, 80, 443, 2018 UDP and TCP.

Just like every other Air server, Caelum supports OpenVPN over SSL and OpenVPN over SSH.

As usual no traffic limits, no logs, no discrimination on protocols and hardened security against various attacks with separate entry and exit-IP addresses.

Do not hesitate to contact us for any information or issue.

    Kind regards and datalove

Unless you count the TTIP/TTP kills and some of the manufacturing he (maybe?) already got back. They're both showmen .
