Exemplary Service
Stalinium reacted to Gucci4Gucci for a post in a topic
Since most of posting and reading the content here are already supporters of the service, I will rein in the tendency to tangent and be straight to the point. Few and far between are the opportunities where you can find a service that is: unquestionably of, or better than fair market value, satisfying qualitative and quantitative performance measures and product selection Represent a core value and ethos that is substantiated throughout how they treat customer on up to the unheralded prepotencies of personal privacy rights. -
1 pointHello First, I want to thank the team behind Airvpn. I've been a happy customer for 3 years (and atleast 3 more ) and I truly believe in your mission. As some of you might know, in the recent weeks the access to internet in iran has been severed by firewalls. The countries' regime has been opressing people in every age group through brutal acts, officially over 224 people killed with over 29 minors included. Iranian government is notorious for torturing and murdering their own people and covering it up by blocking the media and/or shutting down electricity.(2 years ago they shut down electricity and burned people who were fleeing to the reeds) currently, big hacking groups both national and international have declared cyberwar against the government of Iran (Such as Anonymous). It would be great if you can provide a service/ training material for the people of Iran in order to bypass this firewall and share with the world what actually is happening in there or organize against the government. I would personally translate these documentations to Persian to enable more people At first, it might seem impossible but since a lot of services such as Google Mail are still unblocked and by setting up emails that reply back to people you can enable them to access the internet freely Of course, the wonderful team of Airvpn might have much better ideas than me to help these people. Best some guy who wants to help their people

1 pointHello! We're very glad to inform you that Eddie Android edition 3.0 Beta 3 is now available. The original post has been updated accordingly. New in Beta 3: objects management change in order to prevent Android GC from destroying them and causing various issues while Eddie is connected through WireGuard and swiped out latest OpenVPN3-AirVPN library, linked against OpenSSL 1.1.1r bug fixes resolving app crashes after peculiar actions minor bug fixes The first change is critically important and resolves the multiple problems reported both in the current thread and privately. When Eddie 3.0 preview up to beta 2 version is connected via WireGuard and swiped out, if you recall Eddie after some time (especially but not exclusively when the device screen had been turned off or the device had been locked), you may find it reporting incorrect status, reset and stuck connection statistics, quick connection button frozen. All the problems affect every previous Eddie 3.0 preview version, in every Android version, only with WireGuard connections, and have a single common cause which was finally found. The latest beta 3 resolves the whole issue according to our tests. If you experienced any of the above problems we warmly invite you to test again in the same conditions and report back. Find full description, download link and SHA256 signature in the first post of this very thread. Thank you very much for your tests and please report and describe any bug you find! Kind regards

1 pointAirVPN features are incomparable to other services out there. "Eddie" is very nice, I'd say simpler and more intuitive vs. other competition similar tools (I am not using it) but it's very good for the majority of users who just want a working good and secure VPN without being interested in what happens under the hood. The first attraction is the fact that is exclusively based on OpenVPN, which any sysadmin knows it's the best option, most of other VPN protocols are orders of magnitude less secure, less flexible and just confusing. However, for the little bit more techy users, the AirVPN system offers you the possibility to: - add / remove devices (public keys / client TLS certificates) - select entry IP layer (IPv4 and IPv6) as well as select connectivity inside the VPN tunnel itself - select device for building the client TLS certificate - many protocol and ports combinations, OpenVPN over SSH and over Tor - basically it's impossible not to be able to use it in any scenario - Port Forwarding / DynDNS - Customizable DNS settings - Stats to view current connections insidethe airvpn website - all other advanced features all these are a piece of art of IT engineering, and I hope this service will remain available forever and always care about these "advanced specs for techy users". I know the backbone of this entire service is comprised of huge scripts and firewall / networking settings, I hope they are well kept and archived with clear instructions so the service can be kept ongoing for the foreseeable future independent to the person(s) in charge. Congrats to the team (open source projects contributor here)! Glad to jump in the party, here to stay.

1 pointThere is no service out there to even compare it with. There's Eddie, the commercial face, for users who don't care about the techy details and just want a good vpn connection. And, something that nobody else has, there's config generator where you can do TONS of stuff , like select entry IP layer, select IP versions you want, do DNS filtering, blah blah blah absolutely anything you might want.

1 pointThere has not been a review here for some time so I thought I would add my own. I have only ever used AIRVPN and I have no regrets. I am not tech savvy, I do not know about configuring DNS etc, so I rely on Eddie and for me it works brilliantly. Here is my list of good and bad: Bad: some of the answers you receive to a question are very technical and hard for an average user to understand. It does not seem to be as bad as before, but I remember when I first joined about ten years ago I asked a question and received a response by the staff that seemed like it was written by a lawyer. Sure it answered the question, but another forum member had to explain it to me. As I said, this doesn’t seem to be so much the case now, at least not in my experience. Secondly for me is the Vancouver servers are always maxed out at night, I live in British Columbia and wish to use a close server, but often I have to use the Southern USA servers. Well that is it, can I come up with something else? I could sit here and say “five eyes etc” but I won’t, to me it doesn’t matter. Good: First the cost, if you get it during sales you can obtain a three year subscription for about the cost of one and a half years, good deal. Secondly is the Eddie interface, if you have no clue what you are doing the GUI is wonderful, easy to use just select a server and go. Third is the DNS configurations, being able to block adult and gambling sites is great, I have been using other DNS servers to block this stuff but have recently discovered I can nuke it all using AIRVPN and if a site gets through you can add it easily, I have no clue how to do that with the other ones you would configure via your router. Fourth is the speed. I am on wireless and I receive speeds of about 90-95% with tcp. At first I was only receiving about 10% of my speed and wanted my money back but the staff here contacted me and asked if we could troubleshoot first, an email or two later and all was correct. Fifth is the community. If you are unsure about something you can post a question and you will receive a respectful answer, even if the question may be considered dumb (for lack of better words) to some users. So all in all I am a happy AIRVPN user and I think I am safe and secure with them. That they are run by activist and not people just wanting to make bags of cash is a stellar selling point. I hope this helps anyone who reads it and my be considering whether or not to obtain a subscription. I am more than willing to answer questions if you have any.

1 pointThis is normal for Google. Since geoIP is such a mess, they don't completely trust what geoIP databases report. Instead they use the data they get from browsers visiting from each IP and try to guess if some IP is now being used elsewhere. Since Russia is currently heavily censoring internet access, AirVPN likely has a lot of Russian users who happen to be using NL servers. Google detects a lot of users with Russian locale are using NL node IPs -> they start offering Russian site by default. Not sure if there are workarounds for this, other than logging in. But this is not a sign of compromise, so no need to be paranoid. If Russia really was listening, they wouldn't route traffic through Russia. ;)

Rambler.ru / Рамблер
Stalinium reacted to OpenSourcerer for a post in a topic
Well, it's anonymity's natural gravity. Though, it must be additionally defined what a "crap" purpose is. For some, it already starts with torrenting, even though it has very little effect on other users, if at all. -

How does WhatsApp Aero make money?
Stalinium reacted to OpenSourcerer for a post in a topic
The developer calls himself a "spy software expert"… go figure. Anyway, the feature overview looks like that app is seriously violating the EULA of WhatsApp (and possibly pays no respect to the privacy of others) with things like online time logging for all contacts, prevention of messages being deleted, sharing bigger files than possible, etc. Also, the dev knows that people get banned for using his app, so he advises to delete everything from original WhatsApp and also CLICK AWAY THE PLAY PROTECT RESULT. You shouldn't use this app, or any other apps from this dev, like for real. Especially because you start spitting on the privacy of others.
