ANSWERED DNS over HTTPS - Is it even needed anymore when using AirVPN?
puccettone reacted to NoClipMode for a post in a topic
I use DNS over HTTPS (DoH) with Firefox, and i also use Simple DNSCrypt on Windows 10 for DoH, so that all DNS traffic is encrypted. I use the Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 DNS for both methods. So i have a few questions about this because i've no idea if i should be using DoH anymore... Does using DNS over HTTPS compromise AirVPN's privacy/security in any way? If i'm using AirVPN is there even any point in using DoH any more? For example, i'm guessing that AirVPN will no longer use my ISP's DNS and will also use DNS encryption, making DoH pointless? And i noticed that when connected to AirVPN it overrides the DNS settings of Simple DNSCrypt anyway. Lastly, should i disable DoH in Firefox? Because it seems to still be connecting to 1.1.1.1 even when i'm using AirVPN. -
1 pointHello, I'm a new user of AirVPN and loving it so far. I'm trying to setup custom routing on Android with the Eddie app via the Custom directives option. I tried: push "route whatsmyip.org 255.255.255.255 net_gateway" and it isn't working my ip is showing the VPN one, and I don't see any error in the log. I also tried: route whatsmyip.org 255.255.255.255 net_gateway but I get an error in the log. This command is working on the Eddie app on Windows. Is there any way to exclude specific domains from being routed inside the VPN on Android? I also tried using OpenVPN client (Android), I can connect but the traffic is still routed inside the VPN. Any idea how to make this works? The Share button of the Eddie app log doesn't seems to work, so I can't share the log here. Thanks!

ANSWERED custom directives routing not working on Android
vijay922 reacted to Tech Jedi Alex for a post in a topic
You usually need privileged access to run OpenVPN on PC systems whereas on Android you don't. There the VPNService API is used to push routes and that one accepts numeric IP addresses only. Well, the OpenVPN manual outlines that you really can provide a DNS name to the route directive. I think it will only set the route to whatever the IP address was at the time of connection and does not take dynamic changes into account. It probably will work with whatsmyip.com, but will fail with Netflix, Google or Facebook. -

Encryption is always on, therefore, no, they can't. Unless you suffer from a DNS leak, of course. I've seen these options in a Firefox release but not in Waterfox (what I'm currently using). The latter is supposed to have feature parity with the newest Firefox release but it clearly doesn't. 😠 -

1 pointCan anyone explain the hype about Iceland? With actual facts. Their biggest datacenter, which all the competitors use, was hosting Silk Road in 2013. They fully cooperated with U.S. law enforcement, even though legally they could probably not to. (If you see Flokinet or OrangeWebsite, it's just rebranded IP whois under ThorDC/Advania which is the actual DC). Quote from Iceland's laws: http://legaldb.freemedia.at/legal-database/iceland/ Theoretically if you insult, mock, or libel someone (aka internet trolling) you are breaking Iceland's laws That's not even the main reason for that. No actual provider has large volume bandwidth wholesale program, so getting anything above 10TB would cost like 10 servers in Netherlands or Germany. Peering directly with IX (Siminn, Farice,Simafelagid) which are all direct to RIX is possible but for a single server it's not a very common practice. Maybe if it was for 10 servers it would be worth the efforts. You can't expect a big, monopoly free network infrastructure in a country with less than 400k residents, compare it to a country like Malta or Cyprus for example (they are bigger). Their copyright laws are not the best as well. East European countries are much more reluctant in these terms. Check where the majority of pirate trackers are hosted for example. I don't know how Iceland became that overhyped, possibly because they used to host Wikileaks from the early days.

How-to: AirVPN on Synology DSM6 and DSM7 complete guide
PeterCrola reacted to Mikeyy for a post in a topic
Tried restarting DS? I don't use DSM 6.1, so I wouldn't know if something changed. But sometimes same thing happens to me on 6.0, VPN is up, but you can't reach anything. Not sure if it's DSM problem or AirVPN problem, but DS reboot usually fix it. -
1 pointThe United States is an enemy of the Internet. More and more our technology and communications are captured illegaly and stored for many years and then used against us in court. The government seems to sincerely believe that it owns the Internet and regulary hacks into foreign servers to retrieve data, seizes domain names, etc. and any citizen who can be considered a hacker under broad laws will be thrown in prison. My warning as a US citizen is to watch out, encrypt, keep everything secure, keep data offshore, and avoid any US-influenced entities such as ICANN. Thank you AirVPN for the great continued service. I've been using multiple VPN connections almost constantly for the past year everywhere and as far as I can see that will continue

1 pointWhat is the referral system? Referral system is a method to allow a person to gain money when another person buys a service or a product recommended by the first one, typically through a referral link. A detailed referrals' page is available in Client Area, in Referrals page. It shows the URL that referrals need to use and some ready to use banners. It also lists the recent customers linked to the referrals and the latest account credit charges. When a customer follows a referral link, a one-month validity 'referred_by' cookie is created in the customer's browser. If it already exists and already points to the same referral, it gets renewed for one month. If it already exists but does not point to the same referral, the original referral still remains. During an account creation, a customer having the 'referred_by' cookie is linked to the referral. When a new referred customer buys an AirVPN service for the first time, 20% is credited in 'Account Credit' of the referral person. Higher commissions are available when mid-term aims are reached. Contact us if you are interested in a mid-term commitment. Pricing & Currency Your commission percentage is computed on the NET price In case a currency differs from EUR (including cryptocurrencies), your commission is always in EUR, computed at the exchange rate valid when the referred user made the payment. Scenario examples: If a user follows your referral link, and it's the first time in a month that he/she browses airvpn.org website, any account that this user will create is associated to the referral. If a user follows your referral link after having followed a different referral link of another website, the first referral is the one that remains valid (for one month).

Isn't SSL and SSH still a more effective method of bypassing blocks? As i understand it, a SSL connection is less likely to be blocked than a standard OpenVPN connection with the packet headers scrambled. -
