    Hello!

We're very glad to inform you that a new 100 Mbit/s server located in Singapore is available: Megrez.

The AirVPN client will show automatically the new server, while if you use the OpenVPN client you can generate all the files to access it through our configuration/certificates/key generator (menu "Client Area"->"Config generator").

The server accepts connections on ports 53, 80, 443, 2018 UDP and TCP.

Just like every other Air server, Megrez supports OpenVPN over SSL and OpenVPN over SSH.

As usual no traffic limits, no logs, no discrimination on protocols and hardened security against various attacks with separate entry and exit-IP addresses.

Do not hesitate to contact us for any information or issue.

    Kind regards and datalove

Staff got a reaction from Baraka in freenode bans airvpn users   ...
    Hello!

We have already been contacted by Freenode a few hours ago, they kindly explained that the problem is abusive behavior from user(s) from our nodes. Probably they have gone ahead by themselves and started blocking all our exit-IP addresses. This could make things worse because we could start multi-hopping and rotating as many IP "secret" addresses as we wish from 4 continents, making their task desperate, but in this case we will NOT do so at the moment: Freenode is an IRC platform that supports free & open source software and their users, as well as any other service and any other user of any other service, must NOT be harassed by our nodes. We could have studied alternative solutions with automatic triggering, but if they have already chosen to block indiscriminately, that's their legitimate right. We will do nothing to circumvent the blockade before we carefully evaluate the problem and get also an informal opinion by Mr. Stallman, Mr. Cerf and Sir Berners-Lee (if they will wish to give us one, of course) on such general matters next time we meet them in person or virtually.

The general point is if it's ethically acceptable for a service like ours, which provides free access to people working in human-rights hostile countries, to fight net neutrality violations and end-to-end principle violations from private entities over their private will when such fight will help harassing behavior.

    Kind regards

It is mandatory to use one of our VPN DNS (10.4.0.1, 10.5.0.1 etc, see https://airvpn.org/specs) in order to have full access to the additional anti-geo-blocking service.

I just transferred from proxy dot sh to airVPN and I'm shocked how good you are. I had disconnects, my IP was banned on proxy.sh, but here I can do whatever I want and nothing is blocked. Everything is working well.
    You're awesome!
    Cheers!

Why don't you add many more servers locations?

A new server location must comply to every AirVPN requirement. Contrarily to some of our competitors, we don't add locations just to have "one more country flag", in disrespect of service quality and customers' security. We take every care in order to provide high quality of service and high security. The servers datacenters must comply to our requirements for privacy, bandwidth, traffic, peering, net neutrality and usage policy. All these factors together restrict significantly the range of viable choices. The privacy requirements alone cuts out entire countries, while several other countries are discarded because they have an insufficient infrastructure. This is the only way to keep the service in line with our vision and our quality and security standards.
Under a security point of view, picking a server outside the country you live in is a superior choice: an adversary with the ability to monitor your Internet line will have more difficulties in re-building your connections paths and enlarge its monitoring powers into different jurisdictions.

Under a performance point of view, geographical proximity does not always imply network proximity. Also, we can't ensure 1 Gbit/s for every and each location. A better way to select a server to get higher performance is determining, through our servers monitor, the servers with the lowest relative latency and pick, between them, those not at capacity.

If you need a particular location to bypass geo-IP-location based restrictions, first have a look here.

If the service you're interested in is included in our anti-blocking system, you will probably get higher comfort and performance from a connection to the network-nearest server to you. An example: if you are in Europe and you wish to access Hulu, it is likely that connection to an European server, instead of a connection to an USA server, will result in a better performance (especially if your ISP is not a tier1) and at the same time will allow you to access European services more swiftly.

If the service is not included in our anti-blocking system and/or it is in a country where we do not have servers, ask for it: routing anti-geo-IP-location based restrictions servers are not bound to our requirements for privacy legal framework etc., so we will evaluate your request without prejudice deriving by our strict requirements.

    Hello AirVPN,

First, I would like to thank you. Even the questions in my previous post were not directly related to your service, they were answered in full detail.

I am also glad that we have this forum because the amount of information on the web about the usage of OpenVPN directly on the OS X platform is very limited.

Currently I am behind some PF rules that only allow me to connect to the Internet when I am connected to one of your servers. I also set your DNS server address as my default and only. Therefore when I login to my computer, I connect to one of your servers in the first place and I never disconnect it until the next reboot.

    In that case

    i. Can I simply quit the Terminal application after a successful connection? I am getting the Closing this window will terminate the running processes: openvpn, sudo. warning, but later on everything seems to be working.

ii. Can I simply sleep and then wake my computer and continue to work without any interference? This seems to be working too.

    Thank you.
