won't connect. no valid vpn secrets...

    Hello!

It would seem something related to bad/missing certificates and/or keys. Make sure you have copied all the properly generated files inside "air.zip" to the OpenVPN config directory.

It's difficult to be more specific, please feel free to open a ticket (menu "Support"-->"Helpdesk"); please attach your complete OpenVPN connection log.

    Kind regards

    Hello Admin,

Tunnelblick issues are now resolved, but I cannot connect to AirVPN:

    2011-01-26 22:40:34 MANAGEMENT: >STATE:1296052834,TCP_CONNECT,,,

2011-01-26 22:40:35 TCP: connect to XXX.XXX failed, will try again in 5 seconds: Connection refused

Tunnelblick help says is a problem with the servers being full, though this seems more or less impossible. Any ideas?

    Thank you so much!

    Yes, that's impossible...

Be sure to connect to the free server if you have not premium membership. The premium server refuses connections from non-premium users. If the problem is not solved, open a ticket and post full Tunneblick log (not here in the forum).

Hello! In the previous message we referred to your Tunnelblick software for the upgrade.

The issue you report is a different problem. See here some hints which might help you solve the problem (find here also links to download latest releases):

After following these instructions, this notice pops up when I try to connect air: "The configuration file for 'air' does not appear to contain a 'dev tun' or 'dev tap' option. This option may be needed for proper Tunnelblick operation. Consult with your network administrator or the OpenVPN documentation." Am I missing a file in the configurations?

    Hello!

    You're not missing anything.

This is a (rare) Tunnelblick bug in the config file parsing. It has been fixed in the latest Tunnelblick branch 3.1 r1263. We recommend the upgrade.

Another way to patch it is to manually remove all the comments from the configuration file (use a text editor, edit air.ovpn and delete all lines beginning with '#').

  8. Hello!

We will look into it. Our tests with Internet Explorer 8, though, show that everything works fine, except some minor graphic glitches (Explorer's fault, we can't do anything about them).

We would recommend that you install a browser (Firefox, Opera...) even on your XP system. Internet Explorer should never be used.

Today, I have chosen the Premium Service. Unfortunately, I must say that I, despite new Premium Server Config, still have a ping of 600 to 2000. This is NOT acceptable. The internet here is very fast and gives me a ping of 25 Because the port limitation I had to change to a VPN. Airvpn was recommended to me, but under these conditions, I would like to prefer my money back ....

    Hello!

According to our terms of use, you have the right to a full refund, no questions asked.

If you wish, and only if you wish, drop us a couple of lines telling us in private which country you connect from and your ISP (in case, use "Contact us" option in the drop-down menu). We would be curious to know just because those ping times are incredibly high, much higher than those recorded from Philippines, China and some countries in Africa.

  10. Hello!

94.23.211.188 is ok, it's the free server. Please be aware that in the log you were trying to access the premium server.

We'll investigate into the matter, thank you for the warning.

In the meantime, try to open a completely new account, re-generate and download configuration and certificate files (air.zip), and let us know if you can access free server with the new account.

Hello! The problem is that you are not authorized to connect to that server: it's a premium server, reserved to premium members.

Please connect only to the free server. If you want to become a premium member of AirVPN, please refer to "Payment plans". A premium member enjoys no bandwidth limitation and minimum guaranteed allocated bandwidth, plus 20 remote forwarding ports and fast customer assistance.

    Kind regards

  13. Hello!

Can you please give us more details? We would recommend to open a ticket and attach OpenVPN log file and every other relevant detail.

  17. @devnullius

Hello and thank you for your inquiry. This is not a "free" (as in free beer) initiative, since we do have commercial plans as you probably know.

Anyway we offer a free server dedicated to all those who want to test the service to check if connection is possible (not to check speed) before becoming premium members. However, please note that we don't ensure any service, assistance or bandwidth on the free server, just take it "as it is". Its purpose is to test if connection is possible from your system before subscribing and, last but not least, to give a tool to those who need encryption and censorship circumvention and can't afford to become premium members.

What's more, please note that anyone on the free server has limited bandwidth.

About latency and your issue, this is the first time we hear about this problem after so many months, so a further investigation is needed (it might be caused by several different reasons, including some not related to our system). Feel free to open a ticket.

    Kind regards

    update:

problem solved, i noticed i still had the free server ip so i downloaded new config files for premium user (didn't think to do it b4 as website was telling me i already had premium access so i wrongly figured it was an automatic switch) and now speed is ok.

Hello! We're glad to hear that you solved the problem. As a matter of fact, it is important that you connect to premium server(s) when you have paid for them: free servers are meant for non-premium members and your bandwidth will be limited even if you are premium when you connect to them. Obviously only premium members can connect to premium servers.

We picked this solution to optimize performance for premium members and in order to be able to guarantee an high allocated bandwidth to them.

That said, protection of user.key is very important. You might consider to keep all the keys and config files encrypted, if you are afraid that someone might gain unauthorized access to your computer. Tools like TrueCrypt are excellent, as long as you never leave your partition/files unencrypted while the computer is unattended.

Well, the problem is not the port number, I had tried all the available TCP and UDP ports, but still no sign of connection.

The problem is that OpenVPN traffic is being considered as unwanted traffic according to the packet message pattern that OpenVPN client uses, I suppose.

Hello! Understood. Therefore, http tunneling becomes necessary. Maybe we'll consider it in the near future. Also, have a look here for AirVPN over TOR, which can circumvent that censorship (picking unlisted TOR nodes is necessary if TOR is blocked in your country):

I'm trying to get connected to this OpenVPN service from Iran, but the ISP or the government has blocked OpenVPN connections, and so the TLS handshake fails.

I noted this as I was trying to connect using my Windows 7, with my OpenVPN client.

    Thanks anyway for your response

    Regards, Alireza

Hello! Try ports 53 UDP and 53 TCP.

The very fact that you can write in this forum and can access this site (which are entirely https) shows that TLS connections are not blocked by your ISP or gov't.

If it still does not work, it will be necessary to perform http tunneling.
