  1. I have sent a message to support on Oct 31'st requesting a Free/Trial account, and have not received a response. I am not sure on how long it takes...

    Any suggestion?

I'd like to try before buy...just curious how long it will take as its Nov 3rd already

    Thanks

    Mordant

    Hello!

It depends especially on how many trial requests we receive.

If you have not received an answer to your trial request, please re-send it after November the 4th.

Please note that a trial request message must have the correct subject and that only one trial can be requested.

    Kind regards

  2. i would like to be able to send mail behind VPN but can't because "relaying is denied". :(

changing port on outgoing server requires changing from "no authentication" and hasn't worked in the past with other VPN services.

how can i set it up that it will work? :woohoo:

    Hello!

Outbound port 25 is blocked to prevent spam. This is the only non-neutral constraint on our servers, it is absolutely necessary because spamming would cause a quick blacklisting of all of our IP addresses. The solution is quite straightforward, just use a different port and use SMPT over SSL or other forms of encryption/authentication. Clear text SMTP handshaking and mail sending must be avoided at all costs in any case.

    Kind regards

  3. Hello, When is the support for Windows 8?

I still have 28 days of subscription, but I can not use the service.

    thanks

    Hello!

We're glad to inform you that OpenVPN 2.2.2 and OpenVPN 2.3-beta work swiftly on Windows 8, so this OS is already supported.

    Kind regards

  4. When using AIRVPN, is the Mac Address hidden as well?

    Hello!

The MAC address of your computer card is not transmitted to the Internet (it is not a part of the network layer packets). Your computer network card MAC address is visible only inside your LAN/WAN.

Or is the Mac Address shown to the ISP AIRVPN's?

Your ISP can't see your computer network card MAC address. It can see your router/modem MAC on its first hardware device because that is an ARP domain between your router and the ISP's domain router. So, AirVPN and AirVPN providers can't see neither your computer MAC address nor your router MAC address, simply because they don't receive it in any way.

    Kind regards

  5. Hi,

    sorry for my poor english.

I possibile install OpenVPN under Tails OS?

    Thanks.

    Hello!

Yes, it is. Please note that since Tails forces all connections over TOR, you will have a connection over OpenVPN over TOR, not a pure over OpenVPN connection. This adds security at the price of poor performance. If you wish a pure OpenVPN connection (i.e. not over TOR) in Tails, you can easily have that, please read here:

    https://tails.boum.org/forum/how_to_install_openvpn__63__/

    Proceed with caution.

    Kind regards

  6. Hello!

Please try to limit your upload speed. We don't shape traffic at all, so it might be an ADSL problem (if you're on an asymmetric line), since a too high upload bandwidth will "strangle" your download bandwidth.

PeerBlock/PeerGuardian blocking lists have been reported to cause a lot of troubles in our network (because some of those lists block a huge amount of perfectly legitimate IP addresses, including some of our servers IP addresses). If you're running this type of programs, try to disable them.

Finally, if you're using Windows and the Windows firewall, please check that it does not filter your torrent client on ANY network. Even though the torrent client is authorized on some network, it might be filtered in other ones (when you enter the Virtual Private Network, you're in another network).

    Kind regards

  7. Hello!

We're very glad to inform you that a new 1 Gbit/s server located in the USA (Phoenix, Arizona) is available: Pegasi.

The AirVPN client will show automatically the new server, while if you use the OpenVPN client you can generate all the files to access it through our configuration/certificates/key generator (menu "Member Area"->"Access without our client").

The server accepts connections on ports 53, 80 and 443 UDP and TCP.

As usual no traffic limits, no logs, no discrimination on protocols and hardened security against various attacks with separate entry and exit-IP addresses.

Do not hesitate to contact us for any information or issue.

    Kind regards and datalove

  8. There is a website that offers something for torrenting, it's www.torrentsecurity.com

It's through their SOCKS 5 servers.

If I subscribe to them, and use THEIR settings in the AirVPN page, will that work fine as a configuration option?

Will it make me more secure?

Will AirVPN be able to see my original IP?

    Thanks again.

    Hello!

Probably so, it depends whether their proxy accepts any kind of connection or it is restricted.

Anyway, you might prefer to use TOR proxy to establish a connection over OpenVPN over TOR, in which case you would not need to subscribe to any service and you would obtain a much higher security:

    https://airvpn.org/tor

    Kind regards

  9. How would one run the AirVPN over a proxy?

When I go to configure the files to be imported in TunnelBlick or Viscosity, there is an option to tick for Proxy. How would this work?

Also, what is "embed" in profile option there at the bottom right?

    Thank you.

    Hello!

The configuration generator will take care of that, just select the proxy type you wish to use.

The embed option allows you to embed key and certificates together with the configuration file instead of having separate configuration, certificates and key files.

    Kind regards

  10. How can I secure AirVPN. I am currently on a trial and everything is great so far.

I'm sold if there is a way to secure AIRVPN if the connection with AIRVPN drops.

Is there a way and if so how?

    Hello!

You can find the guides to do that in the permanent links of the announcement section of the forum. Just pick the appropriate guide according to your system.

    Kind regards

  11. How can I keep my ISP from actually knowing that I'm using a VPN? Should I switch up common ports periodically or will that help?

    Hello!

You can't, unless you tunnel OpenVPN over a proxy or over SSL or over SSH. However there's no need to do that, VPNs are commonly used at every level, from small to big companies, from ISPs to private citizens. Virtual Private Networks are just parts of the Internet. Their usage is not only legal but usually highly recommended and sometimes also mandatory.

    Kind regards

  12. Hi, I tried connecting to Virginis but I am getting the TLS Handshake failed error. However I connect to other servers just fine. Is this a problem on my end? Thanks! :)

    Hello!

Does it happen on ALL Virginis ports? Currently we are not able to detect any problem on Virginis. Maybe you're running some PeerBlock-like application that disrupts communications from your device to Virginis...? Also, you might check your firewall rules, just in case.

    Kind regards

  13. In any case the app Feat VPN works like a "bridge" between the server (Air for me) with openvpn and the service L2TP builted in the phone. But I don't know how secure is. In their explanation says that the L2PT protocoll never go outside the phone; it's just a protocol translation internal the phone. Advices?

    Hello!

Cute observation. Given the stated conditions, theoretically there's no security problem at all. We're going to test it under the security point of view in the next days and we'll update the thread.

    Kind regards

  14. When i download the air.zip file, it is always about 36kb, and when unzipped there are no files?

Ive tried this on several machines now with the same result.

Is there something wrong with the system?

I can't get airvpn on my android devices without configuration files!

    Help!

    Hello!

Yes, we don't detect any problem with the configuration generator, it appears to work just fine. Can you please describe the exact operation your perform? Can you please also tell us whether you access our Luxembourg or Holland frontend when you generate the file?

    Kind regards

  15. "Court order or not, your traffic can't be decrypted by your ISP when you're connected to our servers"

I thought an ISP can see EVERYTHING if need be (via local court order)? After all, their modem, cable in my case, routes all-regardless of encryption, no?

    Hello!

Of course not. One thing is routing packet, another thing is being able to know the packet payload and the real origin and destinations of packets. OpenVPN encrypts your outgoing packets before they leave your connected device and decrypts incoming packets only when they are inside it.

    Your ISP can't see:

    - the packets payload (content)

    - the outgoing packets real destinations

    - the incoming packets real origins

    - the applications and protocols you use over OpenVPN

    - the real source and destination ports

Your ISP can only see a flow of encrypted packets to and from one of our servers, on the same two ports.

That's the essence of a VPN.

    Kind regards

  16. 1) Sry for noob network security q's but am I assuming correctly that ANY IP addy coming out of AirVPN servers to/as my computer IP is COMPLETELY masked and undetectable to anyone but AirVPN personnel-albeit even for a short time? (not including my ISP of course which obviously can intercept any traffic via court order or whatever)

    Hello!

Court order or not, your traffic can't be decrypted by your ISP when you're connected to our servers.

    2) That said, "hiding your real IP address even to our servers even while you are connected" seems to imply that I would need to do this in case something happened and my IP was made discoverable by nefarious means of some sort. I understand no system is infallible and any extra security is good security. Is you recommendation simply for the extra security layer?

Exactly. You might like to read here to understand which powerful adversaries our service can defeat and which not:

    https://airvpn.org/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=3&id=54&limit=6&limitstart=6&Itemid=142#1745

Normally adversaries like governments and criminal organizations do not have the power to defeat the service (if used correctly).

    3) I use torrents a lot so my understanding is TOR is not the best choice. What/where is THE optimum setup/walkthrough for me.

You should use no proxy at all. Please see here for p2p performance optimization:

    https://airvpn.org/faq#p2p

    4) Finally, I noticed right-clicking "preferences" in the AirVPN icon in taskbar brings up a "Proxy" option type. Is this only configured when a third-party proxy is used by me (IE: TOR) and should I leave it set for time being at: None/127.0.0.1/port 9050 respectively?

Yes, if you don't run any proxy, leave it to "None".

    Kind regards
