Critical denial of service vulnerability in OpenVPN servers
Staff replied to ComplexAnalysis's topic in General & Suggestions
https://airvpn.org/topic/12793-completed-openvpn-upgrade Topic locked. Kind regards -
Hello! Starting from Dec 2 2014 2.00 PM GMT+1 we will upgrade OpenVPN on all of our VPN servers. The upgrade will cause clients disconnection and server unavailability for approximately less than a minute. We will perform the upgrade sequentially, following servers alphabetical order. No action on your side is required, our Eddie client will reconnect automatically. UPDATE: UPGRADE HAS BEEN COMPLETED Kind regards

Hello! We're following closely the matter and when the fixed version is released we will upgrade as soon as possible. Kind regards Does this mean that for those who connect to AirVPN through Viscosity or Tunnelblick will have to re-download config files? Hello! No, the vulnerability is on the server side. The exploit does not affect security but cause OpenVPN daemon crash. No action on the client side is required (as long as you use OpenVPN as a client only). Kind regards

AirVPN is terribly slow nowadays - Is it only me?!
Staff replied to stupidcats's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! We're glad to know that the problem is solved. During the last week serious problems have occurred at a global Internet level due to malfunction (we have no idea about the causes) of infrastructures of big providers in the world. That affected thousands of smaller providers, residential ISPs and datacenters, in particular during some hours of November the 26th. Just to give you an idea of the enormity of the malfunction, ALL of our datacenter traffic providers (we're talking about more than forty providers, which include several tier1 providers, in three different continents) had problems: high latency and 20% packet loss. Kind regards -
Hello! Due to prolonged problems we will probably withdraw the server. We have starting searching for different providers in LU since some days ago. Kind regards

Hello, thank you for your choice. You just need to transfer the exact required amount to the address that's displayed when you pay through CoinBase. Kind regards Is coinbase the only bitcoin payment option that I can use to get the 35% discount? Does coinbase require registration if I already have another wallet? Thanks. Hello! Yes, it's the only option and no, it does not require registration. Kind regards

Hello, try servers in Canada, the likelihood that trackers administrators block them is significantly lower than it is with USA servers. Kind regards
-
Hello, yes 7 MB/s (=56 Mbit/s) is an excellent performance, especially in TCP. Since you get higher performance in TCP than in UDP (while it should be the contrary) probabiy your ISP shapes UDP traffic. Kind regards

The AirVPN Client (codename Eddie) is a free and open source OpenVPN wrapper that's fully integrated with the AirVPN service. It's licensed under GPL. Source code is available on GitHub. You can find the manual in this page. Before you open a topic, please check if your questions are in the AirVPN Client FAQ. Technical notes about the source code, how it works and how to build an executable file from it are explained in this faq

Hello! Our service is based on IPv4 only at the moment. If you disable IPv6 in your system, do you lose connection with your ISP? Kind regards

Private IP Address Exposed when Reeiving AirVPN IP?
Staff replied to shazbo70's topic in General & Suggestions
Hello! The tunnel is established only after the push, but all the flow is encrypted even before the push, at the very beginning of the handshake. Look at the logs for more details. Kind regards -
Mac OS 10.8.5, client 2.7, constant connecting/restart
Staff replied to dadndadn's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! Our client Eddie can run only in OS X Mavericks and Yosemite. Upgrade to Mavericks is free, anyway if you don't want or can't upgrade you can run Tunnelblick instead of Eddie. Instructions for Tunnelblick and download link are in the usual OS X page https://airvpn.org/macosx Kind regards -
Hello! The very first things to check are: - that the running service is listening to the correct port when the test is performed - that no firewall is blocking packets to and/or from the service - that the running service expects TPC packets. Most tests are only in TCP, not in UDP Kind regards

Java loading tons of data with activated networ lock
Staff replied to volkerpispers's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello, Eddie's Network Lock plug-in in Windows uses Windows Firewall, so while Network Lock is enabled you had better to disable completely any other firewall. Running two firewalls simultaneously will unavoidably cause unpredictable behavior. Kind regards -
Hello! From Black Friday till Cyber Monday you'll just need to go on the linked page, read the code and use it to get the discount on any subscription plan. Kind regards
-
Hello! A VM (or a middle-box) is needed but you could evaluate OpenVPN over TOR (natively supported by client Eddie) which is better anyway. Or just go with TOR over OpenVPN, another very simple solution (at least for browsing). In both cases no VMs or middle-boxes are needed. Kind regards
-
Hello! We're glad to inform you that we have joined "Black Friday to Cyber Monday" initiative by the web site bestvpn.com. The competition will run up to the 1st of December while discounts will be available from the 28th of November. We will be offering a great 35% discount and 10 global yearly accounts. Of course, any additional subscription will be added on top of already existing subscriptions. Kind regards

How does AirVPN keep track of our statistics without logging?
Staff replied to SaveSnowden's topic in General & Suggestions
I find that answer troubling, it hides any potential data logging you might be doing, and also makes it hard for people to assess the security of this setup. There is no "trade secret" that gets around the fact that these statistics can only be collected by constantly keeping track of which user is sending and receiving which packets of data and from which sources. Openvpn will not track that itself, you have to deliberately add extra functionality to do it, all of which is dangerous and unneccessary. This logging should never be collected in the first place on a non-logging vpn, but if you insist on doing it, it should be opt in. EDIT: you say "Openvpn will not track that itself" - you're very wrong here. Anyway that's not so important. Hello, it is already opt-in. It is disabled by default for any account. We don't hide any data logging, all that's detected is already published, and anyway that's how the Internet works, so we can't understand any surprise... on the other hand, an important thing that you can do or might like to do is hiding your real IP address to our servers, or hiding to our servers the contents of your communications (respectively with "OpenVPN over TOR" and "TOR over OpenVPN"). For additional discussions please revert to the following thread (read the following message we wrote a long ago): https://airvpn.org/topic/54-using-airvpn-over-tor/?do=findComment&comment=1745 Kind regards -
Problem solved, user entered wrong username. Kind regards
-
Hello! The screenshot shows that there are no DNS leaks from your Windows machine. In order to activate OpenVPN over SSL, in our client Eddie go to "AirVPN" -> "Preferences" -> "Protocol", select "SSL Tunnel - Port 443", click "Save" and connect to a VPN server. Kind regards

TOR: Hitting a client's anonymity using NetFlow
Staff replied to Tech Jedi Alex's topic in Off-Topic
Hello, even worse, let's say that you are NSA and perform this correlation attack, you end up observing a higher scale number of flows. Let's say x1000 in respect to our previous figures. Now you end up with a x1000 number of false positives. Kind regards
