@bluesjunior, as of Eddie 2.2 there is a bug in the autostart code on Windows. I had created a thread earlier for the same (https://airvpn.org/topic/11660-eddie-doesnt-auto-start-on-windows-boot/). Some versions of Windows allow more than one user to be logged on. In that case AirVPN could potentially start twice and then I don't know what would happen.

Hi, I am currently able to connect to said server and I am getting proper download speeds. I am connected using the latest Eddie 2.3 client for Mac. The protocol and port is UDP 443. @beekay201, the next time you are facing problems connecting with any of the servers, if would be helpful if you could post additional details like - which client/OS are you using, which protocol/port combination. Also, if possible try connecting using UDP 53. Regards

Hi pelado, Am asking this as I didn't see this mentioned earlier - What speeds are you getting when not using the VPN? Say downloading an ubuntu iso when not connected to a VPN as opposed to when connected to a VPN? I am assuming the download speeds are close to 6Mbps when not connected? @Staff, If that is the case, even I am interested to know what options do we have to prove that the ISP is throttling the VPN. I thought that the recommended option for use in China (SSL Tunnel) would have overcome any nation's ISP throttling. Additionally, these are two random suggestions I have received (that seemed to have had an affect) - Use Google/OpenDNS/AirVPN dns instead of your ISP's DNS - I once had speed issues irrespective of which VPN provider I used. The issue resolved itself after I reset the router at my home and flashed an older version of the router's firmware. I don't know why that worked or what the issue originally was. @gigan3rd, I thought the Staff had at some point advised using only the Netherlands server for torrents. Something to do with nor overburdening servers in other countries. I could be mistaken. As per your knowlegde, we can use any server we wish when downloading torrents? Also isn't Netflix one of the websites the AirVPN DNS does some geo-ip magic to allow viewing when connected to any server? Meaning one shouldn't have to connect to a US server to watch Netflix.

Hi, Having subscribed to AirVPN recently, I have never used the clients before Eddie, so I can't comment on the xml file. After installing the Eddie client, is there something that is not visible? The Countries tab lists the number of servers available in each country. The Servers tab shows the load on each individual server. I personally have whitelisted one specific server (the load there rare goes above 50%) and always connect to that.

Hi, You should definitely give the latest version of the AirVPN client (Eddie - https://airvpn.org/windows_ex) a try. Its a stable client with regular updates. It has the features you wish for.

I managed to find the url for one of the videos. This video plays just fine when using my phone's 3G connection. I ran some ping and traceroute commands on this server address. I did this once when the machine was connected to the local isp. And once when tethered to my phone. At both times I had the video playing in a browser tab. Hi, I am posting this is off-topic as the speed issues occur independent of AirVPN. The issue manifests in one of two ways - all sites, speedtest.net tests against many server : all of them show slow speeds - only some sites, speedtest.net tests against some servers : only some of them show slow speeds - and other times every thing is just fine. I am performing speedtest.net tests against servers in Richmond USA, Frankfurt Germany and Singapore. I am stream videos hosted on AUEngine.io, MP4Upload and Vimeo. When only some sites show slow speeds, then speedtests against Singapore is slow, and hd videos on AUEngine and MP4Upload are slow. The other speedtests respond with close to high speeds and Vimeo streams hd videos without buffering. This apart, I am also trying downloads of ubuntu iso from the official site, itunes from apple and kaspersky from cnet.com. The behaviour of these files are not consistent. Sometimes they are slow, sometimes they are fast and sometimes the begin fast and then slow down after a few minutes. I have been complaining to the local ISP for the past 3 days but they haven't yet found anything wrong. I have given up on getting any help from them till I can conclusively and in an reproducible manner show something is wrong. As might be evident I have already wasted mutiple hours trying various downloads/streams/speedtests to help isolate a consistent pattern. I am open for ideas on what tests can I perform to diagnose the issues. Regarding the streaming videos, I have tried both the flash and html5 versions of the players and the issue persists with both. The ISP cable is connected to the router. All my devices are behind the router. I have access to Windows and Mac OS X systems. The router has DD-WRT firmware on it. I thought if I connected to a VPN server in the US (when the Richmond speedtest it is reporting fast speeds) then maybe the AUEngine videos will stream faster. Alas that doesn't happen. For starters I was thinking I should find what location the videos are playing from. If AU and Mp4U videos are in the southeast asia region (same as the Singapore speedtest), whereas the vimeo videos are not, then I can try investigating that. I am thinking somekinda route thingy, like if a request follows this route to this server it is consistently slow, but if it follows a different route to the same server its fast. Will that help? EDIT: I just tried streaming the videos on my phone using 3G and it played the videos smoothly. The same videos are very slow when the phone is connected to the router Wifi.

Hi, While I have not faced this issue and wouldn't know for sure why it happened, let me hazard a guess. The staff mentioned that they had some issues with the front-end authorization servers and they had resolved them. Chances are those servers were not functioning properly when you tried to connect. In a pinch like this, you could choose to bypass the AirVPN client entirely and use a generic openvpn client to connect to the required servers. Connecting that way doesn't require an additional authorization step. The downside is you need to manually download and maintain openvpn configs each combination of port/protocol/server you wish to connect to. Once again, this is speculation from my part and I would appreciate if someone with more knowlegde could correct me if I got this wrong.

@Staff, just checked. Seems I can't paste using the keyboard shortcut Cmd+V. I can however paste if I right click inside the textbox and select paste. Could you please confirm if this is the behaviour you see on the test systems?

@Staff, downloading it. In the meanwhile, what is the recommended process for installing/updating the app on Mac OS X? To install it, I extracted the .app file from the archive and moved it to the Applications folder. To update the app, I am doing the same thing - replacing the old one with the new. However, this causes me a few issues - On starting the updated client, it forgets all settings. I have to reenter the credentials, whitelist servers and modify preferences. Is there a way to upgrade without losing all this info each time? - Btw, the password text box on the client doesn't allow pasting a password. Everytime I upgrade I have to retype this long gibberish password. Could we allow pasting text into the password box? EDIT: The client works properly.

Hi, Unable to connect using the Mac client. Log below. A few observations, with the earlier Mac client, I had to enter the system password everytime I started the client. With this version, it doesn't ask me for the password. Second, under the servers tab, the latency times for all server are less than 10ms. This is simply not possible. I faced this issue when I had just started off with an AirVPN subscription over a month ago. I mainly only use FF. Back then I chalked it down to my connecting from different ip addresses. Atleast to me it looked like, if I login to AirVPN website when connected to one server and then connect to another server and come back to the website, I would need to login again. Back then I was trying different port/protocol/server combinations a lot. This issue stopped after a few days. Nowadays I don't find myself getting getting logged out of the website.

@Staff, yes, Dheneb and Thabit seem to provide much better speeds. I have pretty much given up on being able to watch high quality streams. I have a 4Mbps connection. I can watch HD videos on Vimeo without buffering. This lead me to believe that maybe I could watch HD streams of live football. I have tried three different providers (itv/cbc, local tv provider, another tv channel specific to my country), but with each one all I got was low quality occasionally blurry streams. I get proper download speeds whether I am on or off the VPN (when downloading big files). When streaming football, the network consumption is spiky. For a few seconds there will be incoming data at 4Mbps, then no data for around 10 seconds and then again some data at full speeds for a few seconds. The stream quality switches from acceptable to blurry (unwatchable). Is there anything I can do to improve the situation (4Mbps is the max speed my ISP offers). @encrypted, I was unable to find any program listing for football on the ITV player site. As per the news articles (http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/bbc-2014-fifa-world-cup-3507851, http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/05/14/world-cup-2014-tv-schedule_n_5322219.html) BBC/ITV were only telecasting the league stage matches.

Any updates on what streams are you guys using? ITV doesn't seem to be showing any of the group 16 matches currently on. CBC.ca is showing the matches, but we need to connect to a Canadian server. And the canadian servers are very slow for me. I have tried different port/protocols, but I getting only half the speeds I get without the VPN. A speedtest.net test to a canadian server (when not connected to the VPN) gives full speeds. However when connected to the VPN, it drops to less than half. ITV worked well for the matches it did show. Are there other sites that offer streams in English? I tried the US ESPN websites but they all require registration with local addresses and it seems like too much trouble.

Need to report an issue. This is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened. The Mac client is configured to connect to recommended server. Under servers only the Hadar server is present in the whitelist. The client starts connecting and then the UI gets hung at a particular stage. The UI simply doesn't respond. Checking ipleak.net shows that I am connected to the VPN but I can't disconnect or reconnect as the UI is hung. Force killing the app doesn't help. I am still connected to the VPN. I need to kill the openvpn process explicitly and then reset the dns for my wifi adapter. Anyway, I enabled Advanced mode under preferences. One of the things it does, is display debugish messages in the main screen of the app (the screen that has the connect button). I have noticed that everytime the app hangs, the debug message reads "Try to set dns for <adapter name>" or something to that effect. This laptop being a macbook pro there are three network adapters (Wifi, Thunderbolt, Bluetooth). The last two are not connected, even then the app tries to set the dns for it. Is there a text log file somewhere on my system that I can attach here?

@Staff, I downloaded the client once again an hour ago and everything works great. I haven't faced the crash yet, but its only been an hour . WIll report it if I do get a crash. On a side not, if the app does crash, is there a log file that I can post here? If yes, please mention the location for the file. Great job on the Mac client. Really glad that I can now delete the various Tunnelblick configurations I had created to try out different port/protocol/server combinations

Glad you are getting better speeds with AirVPN. Even if you do face issue in the future, there is an active community on the forums as well as well-documented steps to help diagnose and resolve it. Also the AirVPN staff is very active on the forums. This for me was the deciding factor that led to me to switch to Air, before my existing subscription with another provider was over. @Staff, of the points that @Ansuz raises, I have experienced frustration over the first two. The second one was especially irritating because the only way I knew to reset the network card was by executing the following two commands "netsh int ip reset; netsh winsock reset" (My local ISP tech support provided these to me). These however require the computer to be restarted. Is there an easier way to reset the settings?

Anyway, selecting the `.tar.gz` allows one to download the app. I am unable to get the app working. On connecting to a recommended server, it gets stuck in the loop -> connect successfully -> check routes -> disconnect -> restart in 3 sec -> connect successfully to another server -> repeat. This happens irrespective of whether I choose to connect to recommended server or a specific server. I am ensuring that I don't have any conflicting port/protocol/server on the Windows machine. I have tried different ports and protocols. Even disconnected the Windows client and tried the same settings on the Mac box, same problems. I am able to use Tunnelblick without any issues. If you are not using the latest Eddie client (https://airvpn.org/windows_ex), I recommend you do use it. Under Preferences, it has many options to enable the behaviour you wish. Check the Routes and Advanced tabs. Additionally, there is an existing thread (https://airvpn.org/topic/9609-blocking-non-vpn-traffic-with-windows-firewall/) that you may find of use. I personally don't have any explicit routes defined. I believe the default there implies force all traffic through the VPN. Under Advanced, I enabled "DNS Switch", "Ensure tunnel uses AirVPN DNS", "Check if tunnel works" and three settings under "Windows Only". I have found these help resolve any DNS leak issues. You can confirm the same by visiting http://ipleak.net after connecting the VPN.

Hi, As pfsense_fan mentioned, there are no issues as long ipleak.net and other such sites return the AirVPN IP instead of your ISP IP. Regarding why the locally installed app is able to see your ISP IP, well its because its locally installed. Because you are connected to the ISP, the network card on your phone has a reference to the ISP IP. Any app installed locally on your phone, with the proper permissions, can query the network adapter for its IP and report it. However, if those apps try to access the internet, the routes setup by your vpn client will force the traffic to flow via the AirVPN IP and not directly via the ISP IP. As an aside, if you disable the 3G/4G, enable the wifi on your phone, connect to a router and then open the battery app, it will show you some local `192.168.1.2` type ip instead of the ISP IP.

Try visiting the site http://ipleak.net. Its maintained be AirVPN. It will show your public IP and publicly sniffable DNS. In most cases, if you are connected to AirVPN and have proper DNS leak prevention enabled, the DNS entry will be the same as the Public IP. It should surely not be the DNS entries you see when not connected to the AirVPN. If you see the same DNS entries when connected and when disconnected, then your DNS is leaking. Anyway, visit the site both before and after connecting to the VPN. If the VPN connection worked proper, then the values should be different in each attempt. Note that when connected to AirVPN, under IP Details it should read `AirVPN Exit Node: Yes`. Assuming that works properly, then the chances are you encountered an edge case bug in the AirVPN website. Try logging out of the website, clearing the cache/cookies, refreshing the page, logging in. I am aware none of this should be needed, but still give it a try. Finally, if you are on Windows/Linux, try using the AirVPN client (https://airvpn.org/windows_ex or https://airvpn.org/linux_ex/) instead of the OpenVPN GUI. Btw, any particular reason for using the open vpn client instead of the AirVPN client?

I think I have misunderstood what the term "Tunnel" means. My understanding is, after connecting to the VPN server, the path from my computer to the VPN server is the tunnel. From your previous post, it sounds as if the "Tunnel" is something within the VPN server. If the latter is true, then the out-tunnel speed need not match (and could possibly be far below) the speed I get when not connected to the VPN.

Sorry, I didn't understand the explanation. The buffer data is sent from the VPN server to the VPN server. But for it measure my internet speed, at some point it needs to pass via my computer right? And if it does, then doesn't the routing table affect it?? I am asking this cuz, for the past two days, the out of tunnel speeds are way off. I am on a 4Mbps plan and a speedtest.net test against an Amsterdam server gives me around 3.8 Mbps. After connecting the VPN to a Amsterdam server, speedtest.net shows reduced speeds of around 2Mbps. The AirVPN speedtest however shows an out-tunnel speed of around 1 Mbps and an intunnel speed of around 80%. I will most likely start a new thread to discuss the issues mentioned in the 2nd para. I mentioned them here to give a li'l context for the queries in the 1st para. Thanks.
