  1. Remember newsgroups does not upload your data.... only downloads it Also companies like astraweb suggest they do not hold any logs or info see here: http://www.news.astraweb.com/privacy.html last line they say they do not hold the details of the type of file downloaded, only amount and ip address.... so in theory only the VPN ip address gets logged here and the amount you downloaded ie 1gig. Course take it all with a pinch of salt I can not 100% confirm what they say is true we all know what happen to those hackers recently and that "other" VPN service ! I still feel newsgroups is the safer option for downloading your linux isos. Course I would suggest follow the guide lines in here about setting up your p2p software with AirVPN and remember that any Illegal downloading is still Illegal and not allowed, you can check your government website to check the Law and Penalty.
  2. Thanks was going to say would be awesome to have a little check box, I also find the auto start for airvpn client buggy it has issues starting up. If I use the openvpn software and download the licenses and certs then its better and ok, but I still like the air client software it just needs to catch up with the other vpn clients
  3. Hi I have been reading a few reports around the web in regards to how safe VPNs are in general, there is much talk suggesting your only as safe as to what you are browsing and doing online. Many suggested for example, if I am logged into a google account or hotmail account, that if I am connected to an VPN and secure, I can still then be tracked or found simply since I logged into hotmail ? Others suggested even a website with a flash video would track your real IP which under an VPN! Is it therefore better to be more extreme and not log into google/hotmail accounts and even disable java/flash ?
  4. thanks yeah I think that is the only way possible, I think since nearly every tomatoe/wrt firmware based router has been just a Router and not designed for ADSL/DSL broadband connections only way to find out is the hard and expensive way ! Only issue is the NT-16 asus routers the best one but its the most trickest one to locate and buy at a good price. This will take some time, I almost brought a Asus N55 diamond router yesterday... then ran a quick google and found out it was not tomatoe supported !
  5. I guess everyone with airVPN/OpenVPN are all on Cable broadband providers. Can anyone else please confirm they may have setup a ADSL/DSL (broadband) Modem router and connected it to there normal router(cable broadband like an Asus RT-N16) and got it to work ? I googled tomato ADSL routers, and it does not seem to exist... so I assume my above theory must work otherwise what about UK millions of ADSL/DSL customers !
  6. Hi its since the netgear adsl modem router I have has a modem built in to get my BT broadband. I could get a ADSL modem and get tomatoe support etc but, I would rather just get a asus modem router which may work will work with cable broadband companies or fiber later on down the road. So that is why I was thinking perhaps I can bridge the netgear adsl modem to the asus modem router just to use a vpn from the asus router instead.
  7. Hi I have a netgear adsl router currently using BT broadband connection, I was wondering if I buy a Asus RT-N16 Cable Router, can I still install tomato on it and Air VPN on it like many have done so and still get connected this way ? So essentially I will be connecting my netgear adsl router which gets my broadband to my Asus RT-N16 cable router and then my Asus RT-N16 cable router to my PC getting the AirVPN support ? Not sure if this is possible...
  8. Oh protection as in secure under AirVPNs high level encryption.... Anyone got any suggestions on a decent All in one router that maybe is fiber/bt/virgin compatible also ?
  9. Hi it was a 3g wireless broadband dongle, pay as you go with 2gig of credit. Was a bit strange I got connectivity but no internet webpages showing up, only when I then noticed airvpn was running so I clicked on disconnect and then it worked. I just assumed it did not work. I sadly do not have it anymore my friends taken it back as well.
  10. Hi my friend was asking me to test his mobile broadband payasgo dongle, it worked fine with accessing the internet however when I connected and used AirVPN it was blocked from accessing the internet, so just wondered if ports had to be forwarded, or is it that mobile dongles just do not work with AirVPN ?
  11. thanks really love that prism break website, considering the way things are going and amount of hysteria going up in the air Its better to protect yourself and always. Keep the tools and suggestions coming ! this threads top!
  12. Hi in wake of all the Prism News I feel much more secure and safer with AirVPN. However some questions about Tor and VPN in general please ? 1. I prefer connecting to AirVPN and then using Tor, is this still the best way forward to remain more anonymous ? 2. Does Tor web browser store history and cache on the pc hard drive ? 3. Some have suggested, its best to use Tails cd to remain anonymous, but they do NOT recommend or support VPN and even suggest it works against there Tails software making it worser... I do like the idea of Tails since it runs off the cd only, but of course your limited and frankly Windows o/s at least you can install PC games/PC software and your printer even!
  13. Hi total newbie here, only been using AirVPN for a few weeks now but feel a whole heap safer just some questions if I may ask 1. Is this a guide to put AirVPN into a suitable router, so one does not need to run it manually each time I switch on the pc ? 2. I assume I am protected ALWAYs then under Airvpn+my router, as long as I am paying subscription to AirVPN ? 3. If I get a router, can I get one that will work for BT ADSL/Fiber optic and also Virgin BB, that way if in future which ever broadband provider I go with its already sorted and VPN enabled, any recommendations on which one ? Or shall I go for that Asus model mentioned since that is a router only it appears? Thanks! Keep up the great work and thanks for the guide
