Norway needs more servers

Norway's servers are over 60% most of the day. Can you ship a couple of Sweden's unused servers to Oslo? There's like 5 not being used. -

Allow your ISP to track you, else no internet for you [Cloudflare]
flat4 reacted to OpenSourcerer for a post in a topic
Correlation != causation, as always. You're feeling the fallout of a small number of users scripting the hell out of VPN connections, launching all manner of automated attacks against all kinds of websites and services. As the saying goes, one bad apple spoils the barrel. People are built this way: There's heightened temptation to do "unsavory" things when there is less risk of being discovered doing so. In the realm of the internet, all manner of proxied connections like VPNs are bound to be abused at some point. The website operators don't want their servers to be attacked, obviously, so countermeasures are deployed; and you can bet these countermeasures will take the path of least resistance for the operators: Just subscribe to a service which maintains reputation lists and route traffic through them to filter the bad kind, and you get to make attacks less likely and less impactful for you (hello, Sucuri). It's a cognitive bias to falsely attribute this to "privacy is bad". It correlates, but is extremely likely not the cause – since there is no cause to block normal users using a website normally while connected to such a VPN. Everything else is good old conspiracy talk without even a sliver of proof. The human mind is annoyingly good in comparing and correlating things since it's continuously searching for explanations. It's the principle reason science exists – and pseudoscience, for that matter. You'd think the internet made us intelligent due to the sheer amount of info it holds, but, no, it's actually a good example of "to have too much of a good thing". Beware of too easy explanations, for everything you try to understand. -

Install Eddie 2.24.6 Windows 7 Question(s)
knighthawk reacted to Lance Kaufman for a post in a topic
Installed new stable Eddie on a Win7 machine recently. I suspect my ISP uses DPI, so I've always liked connecting using SSL. Eddie client, using installer .exe. A few questions... 1- With Wireguard implementation, is there decreased likelihood of DPI being recognized by ISP? My DL speeds with SSL are taking a major hit with new Eddie 2.24.6. (I'll experiment w/ different protocols and update with faster Protocol selection(s). 2- Here's my bigger question, I can not connect to any "selected" protocol unless I check "use bundled plink.exe, OR, "none", in the Microsoft Windows Only "Advanced" UI. *However, I can connect if I select "Automatic" for both Protocol selection, AND "Microsoft Windows Only, "Automatic" Advanced options. If I leave "Automatic" on MS Windows Only "Advanced", I receive a log noting "VPN Network Adapter not found, install fail (wintun)". Bulletpoint: Is there a compatibility issue for wintun.exe, and/or OpenVPN and Win7? (attached is small log excerpt noting scenario when can not connect, I'll submit larger log if that will help). What, if any, disadvantages to selecting "None", or, "usage of bundled plink.exe" on Advanced Windows Only options? I have yet to try the installing of OpenVPN and Config generator on this machine. As How-To SSL notes "Eddie" will automatically do this for user. Tbh, I don't recall my previous setting on the previous stable Eddie (BUT, I think I left it Advanced "automatic", and had no issue connecting to SSL, SSH, any chosen Protocol) 3- For MS Window Network Adapters, I've historically used OpenDNS 208.67.220.222 (+ the 3 others), OR, Quad 9. *Can I use the AirVPN DNS 10.128.0.1 in both my Adapter's DNS, AND using Eddie? Or could this redundancy cause issues? I always use AirVPN when online, so that's not an issue. If not, I'd swap out Adapter back to Quad 9 or whatever. Lastly on DNS, are the other AirVPN DNS servers still available? I think they were like, 10.30.0.1, 10.40.0.1? Something like that. Additional notes, I reset Win 7 Firewall to "default", reset an outdated Intel Wireless Adapter to it's default setting for troubleshooting. As I write this I have AirVPN's DNS in aforementioned wireless adapter 10.128.0.1, and have Advanced "MS Only" Driver changed to "None" (again, plink.exe will also work). Sorry for any redunancies in all that s*it I noted above Any feedback or help would be greatly appreciated. 23.txt -

Eddie supports Windows 7, you know. Only requirement is that you install .NET 4.5. -

Thanks OpenSourcer. I honestly appreciate your constructive feedback. I felt the other person wasn't even attempting to be helpful. Maybe if said person offered ANY feedback related to the post, then noted, "why you still using Win7?", my response would have definitely been in kind. I noted developer/application problem in a follow-up... that said, there are ways to keep win7 updated (PM me if you want for that info.). Also, I did apologize to the dude, but I'm fastly remembering why I generally avoid message boards. +My posts are now "moderated" and I was penalized with some "point" thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I believe in karma, I try to help people, not sh*t on them. I found his question unnecessary given the context. Peace @opensourcer -

When using 2.24.6 with Win7 32bit (for reasons) I get an "unable to obtain elevated privileges" and can go no further. No problems with 2.21.8. 2.24.6 working flawlessly on Win10 machines. -

Install Eddie 2.24.6 Windows 7 Question(s)
knighthawk reacted to Lance Kaufman for a post in a topic
After prolonged tinkering, latest Eddie stable seems to be working OK if I choose a good proxy/server (can configure to a 40% loss, which I'm cool with). I was curious if Id get any feedback from any remaining Win 7, and/or, Win8.1 /Win10 camp(s). *If anyone is inclined to reply, my only remaining question is... "is it OK to check "none" in Advanced Eddie settings (again, for MS Windows 7), to establish a "chosen" connection protocol (for eg, port 443 IP 4 SSL, or UDP 443 IP 4, et, et...)? Thanks for your time! :) Windows Network Adapter, using AirVPN DNS... is it cool to use the redunant 10.128.0.1 w/in adapter DNS, when connected to Air (is a close 2nd question). :P Have a good weekend y'all's, DfP -

Looks like the only way to connect to any chosen Protocol is to check "None" in Advanced, MS Windows Only. Also having trouble with latest TAP driver, maybe deprecated for Win7? Have to update TAP driver using device manager after a restart, and then TAP driver resorts to 9.0.0.9. If I exit Eddie, then update to latest TAP driver, this will work. TAP fails everytime after a reboot, requires UAC prompt, then unsuccessful. Need to exit Eddie, install from unzipped package, et. But, seems like better speeds using old 9.0.0.9 TAP? Here's a log after successful connection, then tweaking advanced MS Only setting to work with SSL, then resorting again to "None". *Automatic does not work when one tries to select individual Protocol (UDP, SSL, SSH, et). Guessing a Wireguard conflict somewhere. Could be the crap Intel Wireless Adapter too. Im spent *"VPN Network Adapter not found, install fail (wintun)". Can't figure it out PIA_or_PainInTheAss.txt -
1 pointThen I'd get swedish localisation on websites (for those sites that sets language based on IP location). And the problem with Norway being underfunded with servers, while Sweden having several that's practically unused would still exist. As I'm writing this, Sweden have 8 servers with less than 10% load out of 13. Norway have 5 servers with only 1 with less than 63%.

That may be true, but a Swedish server doesn't help you access geo-blocked services in Denmark.
