Unable to connect via udp

Recommended Posts

I have been using this service for about 2.5 months now with now problems once I had it configured properly. I am about to sign up for another 3 month plan. In the past week I have started having problems connecting via udp which I have been doing all along. When I go to connect I choose my usual server and then hit connect. The problem is that is goes to the connecting screen but never actually connects just stays at connecting although it doesn't freeze cause the dots keep moving. When I cancel and go back and change to connect via tcp any of the given ports it connects as it should. As far as I know I have changed no settings either in comodo firewall or in airvpn so I am stuck as to how to resolve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am able to give more info about my setup if necessary. Thanks in advance.

Hello!

A first hint could be given by the Air client logs, can you please send them to us? After the problem occurs, please right-click on the Air client dock icon, select "Logs", click "Copy to clipbard" and paste in the message.

Kind regards

Also my p2p download speeds usually max out at 1.8 MB/s but since I have been having this issue my max speed has been only about 600 kB/s. I am not sure if the speed drop is due to the fact that I have been having to connect through tcp. Any info on how to resolve this issue and get back to my normal udp connection would be greatly appreciated, especially since my service plan is about to run out and I would like to purchase another three months of access. Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Something is blocking outbound UDP packets, or maybe outbound port 443 UDP. Please check your firewall.

Also, please try a connection to 53 UDP. If it's your ISP that blocks outbound port 443 UDP, then connecting to 53 UDP should solve, because 53 UDP can't normally be blocked by your ISP (it's the default destination port for DNS queries). There is no performance difference on any UDP port. TCP is slower due to its full error-correction implementation.

Kind regards

Ok I have disable comodo firewall and attempted to log on and still same issue. This log is after I first attempted to log on to andromedae normally and then I attempted to logon using udp port 53. As I said both attempts failed and just got stuck at the connecting screen. Windows firewall is also disabled to I don't understand what the issue is. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hello!

So it seems that outgoing UDP packets are blocked anyway. Is there anything in your system or in your router that can cause such a block?

If not, a possible explanation (although unlikely) is that your ISP is dropping every outgoing UDP packet (except those for its own DNS). If it's the case, you are forced to connect over TCP.

Such an over-blocking however would prevent usage of every application that rely on UDP, so it's very unlikely and would imply that your ISP is not really providing you with Internet access. Anyway, if you can't find anything in your system and in your router that causes the problem, try to connect to a VPN server with another machine connected to the same router. If the problem persists, eventually you might like to ask your ISP for explanations.

[EDIT] Have you tested different servers?

Kind regards

Ok well I tried a few other things to isolate the problem but have not been able to figure it out. First I completely disabled and exited comodo firewall and then double checked that windows firewall was disabled. Then I attempted to logon via udp with all three ports available but still got stuck on the connecting screen. Next I left all firewalls disabled and then put my router/modem (same device) into dmz mode for my ip address but still the same issue. I then left the firewalls disabled and factory reset my router as a last resort and tried again with the same results. Also tried the dmz zone again. I am completely lost because like I said previously as far as I know I didn't change any settings or add programs that would have cause this problem. After all the things I have tried I feel like it is something with Windows 7 that is causing the problem which you have told me is that my udp is being blocked. Do you have any other suggestions as to what in Windows 7 could be causing this issue or any settings that I could attempt to change. Even when I have all firewalls disabled and dmz zone activated and I try to get on internet explorer regularly rather than with airvpn I still can't access the internet. The only page that loads up is my router homepage and that I assume is because its and internal address and doesn't require internet access. Please any help would be greatly appreciated because I only have a few days to renew my subscription to airvpn and obviously its kind of a waste if I can't use it to full capabilities even though I know the service is not the issue. Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey I'm just writing this to let people who tried to help me know that I have fixed the issue. I finally contacted my isp after trying all other options. I use prepaid internet service that I pay for monthly. I had just renewed my service at the beginning of the month and everything seemed to go through correctly, meaning that they charged my bank account and my member page for them showed that my service would expire on May 5th. Also as I had previously stated I was able to connect through airvpn by using tcp ports instead of udp therefore I assumed that my internet connection was working because if not I shouldn't have been able to connect through udp or tcp. But after talking with Virgin mobile they said that there was an error in their computer system and that my payment and all went through but for some reason there was a glitch with my actual connection. After resetting whatever they had to on their end I am now able to connect normally to airvpn through udp ports like I always have. Just wanted to say thanks again to all the people that responded to my post and gave whatever help they could. Thanks a lot this forum always comes through when I need it to.
