VPN, then TOR, or vice-versa?

Recommended Posts

When i searched for TOR in the forums, there was over 500 threads, so i decided to just ask. I apologise if this has been discussed over and over.

I'm trying to find out which is theoretically (or in reality) better - TOR before VPN or vice-versa? I've read that connecting to TOR first hides the orginators IP from the VPN provider (i fail to see why that is an issue here) and encrypts the exit node, preventing snooping.

I've read that the disadvantage is that you're ISP can tell you're using TOR.

I recall reading somewhere on this forum Air staff describe how/why to use TOR first, but i don't recall reading why or why not connect to TOR first.

If connected to AirVPN first... what's the advantages, disadvantages?

Thanks

Hello!

Choice between Air over TOR and TOR over Air depends on your needs.

Please see here:

and here:

Thanks. Call me a bit thick, but from that thread (and the miscellaneous stuff i've read elsewhere) i can't see why i'd use TOR before VPN unless i supposed AirVPN kept logs on my IP/activity, or i needed to access my 'usual' email (i don't understand why that would be an issue - but i don't do that anyway). But almost everything i read says to use TOR first, but i thought VPNs were more secure. I just don't get it.

That's the thing... There's very little need to use VPN and TOR in my opinion. Especially if your VPN doesn't keep logs such as AirVPN. If you live in a very oppressive nation that blocks VPN and TOR, you're better off using VPN over SSH/SSL.
