ANSWERED Setting up Plex Server [Port Forwarding]

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am extremely new to manually setting up port forwarding, and I am trying to set up a remote Plex server.
The private IP address it uses seems to be my local IPv6 Address for some reason (not sure if this is part of the problem), but I've also noticed that my tests always fail whenever I try running them on my newly generated ports.
I saw a post similar to this one made before, but I didn't quite understand their solution or explanation (and my connection time out error number is different as well).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Local port needs to be 32400 in this case.  should work then.

Thanks for responding!

Unfortunately, I tried this as well and it didn't seem to fix the issue.
Doesn't connect on Plex or https://canyouseeme.org/

I also want to mention that I did make the private ip connection be the local IPv4 instead of 6 so that's changed there.
I also opened a new port as shown in the screenshots.

I am using Windows 10 and haven't really configured anything with my Firewall if that's relevant.

Hello!

That's expected, youcanseeme.org will always fail with ports on pool 2. To understand why:
https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/63545-new-remote-port-forwarding-system-expansion-with-pools/

Please make sure that Plex binds to the VPN interface and that you test directly to the proper IP address that you can determine on your AirVPN account port panel only.

If in doubt please test only through the port tester available on your AirVPN account port panel which will always pick the correct IP address. Also, please forward UDP too, currently you're forwarding only TCP but Plex will use UDP too for specific tasks.

Kind regards

Hi, thanks for responding.

I have noticed that Plex is using the Public Exit IP generated when I connect to a server on the desktop app as opposed to the different IP address from the port panel.
I am honestly unsure as to how to bind the VPN interface to Plex so it uses the right IP address (I'm assuming I would want the Public IP address shown in the Plex picture to be the one from the port panel).
I generated a new port and now have UDP+TCP selected as well.
In Plex's Network setting I set the Custom server access URLs box to be: http://[port panel IP]:[port number] but that doesn't seem to change the Public IP address for Plex.

I really do appreciate any help and tutorial I could be given to successfully get port forwarding to work with this media server (online resources don't seem to be much help so it seems that this topic page is my only hope).
Thank you to anyone who responds. Edited ... by EazyBreezy

Same issue here. I can't find any solution. I tried to change ports too, and still not available.

EDIT: I found the solution, as Eazybreezy said, I had to change the localport. Many thanks

Please advise how we should handle using pool 2 for Plex?  Plex will always report to its system that the server isn't remotely accessible because it's testing to the pool 1 entry IP.  But using yougetsignal to the pool 2 entry IP or the internal port tester ports are open, all is good.  How can we get Plex to propagate in its system the proper entry IP when using pool 2?

Hello!

If Plex works in that way, you must use pool 1 at the moment for Plex, although we have directly verified that Plex is anyway reachable on ports of the pool 2.

This matter will become not relevant when we implement a significant expansion to the port forwarding system. In this new system you will have no more pool distinctions on the client side so your account will be tied to a specific pool and single exit-IP address, therefore you will be able to use any port just like you did with the old system for any software and protocol, including p2p and Plex. The new system has already reached an advanced and successful testing stage and will make the remote port forwarding system even more comfortable and above all scalable.

Kind regards
