[SOLVED] VPN over Tor errors

Recommended Posts

I downloaded TBB and followed instructions but I get errors.

I can get through the backend server but when I try to logon to a country server I get a "failed to start" error from Airvpn. TheAirvpn log says that it connected to port 9050 but then next line says "bad reply". The log in the TBB says "Sock5 error" and then on the next line "bad handshake."

So there is some issue with TBB and Airvpn not communication. Both Airvpn and TBB work independently of each other.

Hello!

Can you please make sure that the proxy set in the Air client is the correct type and that the port protocol is set to TCP?

Kind regards

Yes, here is the log:

1/15/2013 - 3:48 PM Attempting to establish TCP connection with 127.0.0.1:9051

1/15/2013 - 3:48 PM TCP connection established with 127.0.0.1:9051

1/15/2013 - 3:48 PM socks_handshake: Socks proxy returned bad status

1/15/2013 - 3:48 PM TCP/UDP: Closing socket

1/15/2013 - 3:48 PM SIGTERM[soft,init_instance] received, process exiting

1/15/2013 - 3:48 PM Failed to start.

TOR defaults to port 9051 but switching the port to 9050 on airvpn client and/or TOR makes no difference.

Hello!

Maybe you are trying to connect to the ControlPort instead of the SocksPort. Defaults in Windows are 9050 (SocksPort) and 9051 (ControlPort). OpenVPN must connect to the SocksPort, not the ControlPort.

Kind regards

sigh...

Step One. I run TBB. TBB loads successfully.

Step two. I run airvpn client 1.7 under Win7. Loads successfully.

Step three. I right click preferences and I switch to proxy to socks making sure that all data is correct. port 9050 etc. just like here https://airvpn.org/tor/

Step Four. I click connect and Airpvn accepts my password and gives me a list of servers (so back end OK)

Step Five. I select server to connect. Failed to start error.

This isn't complicated...not hard..easy...so what is going wrong??

Hello!

Did you select in the "Modes" tab a TCP port?

This isn't complicated...not hard..easy...so what is going wrong??

Can you please make sure that in the proxy the SocksPort is set to 9050 and the ControlPort to some different port? Can you also please send us the configuration of the proxy?

Kind regards
