ANSWERED Certain programs do not connect when Eddie is disconnected

Recommended Posts

On Linux (My distro is Linux Mint 21.3, based on Ubuntu 22.04), I've been having a strange issue where certain programs (for example, Thunderbird) do not connect to the internet unless Eddie is connected to a server. Other programs work completely fine without issues and I do not have the Network Lock enabled. I've just about tried everything I could think of that could possibly fix this (like uninstalling Eddie, changing DNS servers, messing around with nsswitch.conf, etc.) but nothing has worked. The only fix I've thought of that I haven't tried is reinstalling my distro, but I wish to avoid that as much as possible which is why I'm here now.

# /etc/resolv.conf and seeing this text, you have followed the symlink.

# Third party programs should typically not access this file directly, but only

systemd-resolve says it does not exist, so i presume resolvectl status is equivalent to what youre asking for

The AirVPN DNS servers are set for all interfaces except globally. Try reverting them like this:

# resolvectl revert wlo1

it does remove the dns servers from the interfaces, however the issue still persists. plus if i ever connect to airvpn the dns servers will not be removed upon disconnect.

. 2024.07.03 13:01:04 - DNS of the interface 'enp4s0' restored to '10.128.0.1 fd7d:76ee:e68f:a993::1' - via systemd-resolved

Hello!

For Eddie, now the default system DNS setting is 10.128.0.1 (which in reality is the VPN DNS), probably due to some previous error. So when Eddie is shut down it restores 10.128.0.1 on all interfaces and resolv.conf. While Eddie is NOT running, you may consider to delete Eddie's backup files or even the configuration file if the problem persists. They are stored in ~/.config/eddie (~ is the home directory of the user running Eddie).

Kind regards

i just did some testing, and it seems as though changing my ipv6 addresses to dhcp only in networkmanager fixed it, for some reason. thanks for trying to help fix the issue.
