Run plex outside of the VPN

Recommended Posts

I'm using Eddie-UI on windows 10, I want to run Plex outside the VPN tunnel so i can direct play instead of direct stream.

Can i add something in the routes tab in preferences to make this happen?

This is temporary untill i figure out docker to run all my media server applications in.

I think the easiest would be to simply host Plex on a server which doesn't connect to AirVPN. After all, it's temporary.

We've got a guide to setting up VPN just for torrenting, but it's for the opposite case of yours (one application going through, rest not), so I don't know how applicable it is.

A VM is another option, but you need to use the VM for everything else while Plex runs on the host. Might not be wanted.

set the domain plex.tv to go outside the tunnel.  when Plex checks to see what its IP address is and checks to see if remote access is working it'll use that domain.

P.S. direct play and direct stream are both options that don't transcode the video.  what is it you're trying to avoid by not sending plex through the VPN?

That would be the easiest, but not most practical.
For example in Comodo each app/PID process has its own firewall rule applied to. fitted for to be used only when the VPN is connected.
Hmmm...Tried to do this as per "GUIDE - EMBY"(emby.server.2019.jpg FW rule-last post) but it gets stuck at "Looking for server".

Correct. Could not find a way of doing this with VPN connected.
At OP Eddie-way others may be able to help you out on a step-by-step.
Sorry.
