Hi,

Ive recently started out using AirVpn to test its speeds and reliability. So far everything apart from torrenting has been great. I have a 100mb connection and on speedtests i get around 90mb with vpn and network lock on.

However when torrenting, i only get around 800kb/s which is much less than I usually get (around 7-8 mb/s)

Here is what I have tried via qbitorrent:

  • Unticked UPnP/NAT-PMP.
  • Created a port 49963 and used that for incoming connections. Using the tcp test in the client area gives me a green light and it can be seen on canyouseeme.
  • Global connections=1250 and max connections per torrent=250
  • Binded the interface to ethernet (TAP) and the IP is set to the one given by eddie

My network is set as private and the vpn is public. Both programs are allowed in the firewall both public and private.

Any ideas on what i'm doing wrong? I have attached the logs

Thank you

Hello!

I don't see any logs attached. Could you please check again? When uploading, it's easy to think that things are attached, but there's one extra step to submit.

Is it a 100Mb symmetric connection?

Did you try different locations? Some are thought to be particularly good, such as the Netherlands.

Are you using well-seeded torrents? (With a high seed to leech ratio).

Did you try lowering your global connections? It can help sometimes.

Did you install any third-party security software?

Are you using the latest release of qBittorent? (You can find the release numbers on their website.)

Thanks for the response,

Ive attached the log again in this post. I believe it is 100mb download and 10mb upload so asymmetric?

Ive tried netherlands (defaults to this country), UK and germany. No change even when lowering global connections and I have tried multiple torrents with high seed ratios with no luck.

I dont have any 3rd party security software apart from malwarebytes + windows defender enabled and Qbittorent is on 4.0.4.

I looked through the link you provided and the fixes mentioned dont seem to work for me unfortunately.

Thank you for the detailed response. Yes that's asymmetric. Did you try changing the protocols?

Remember to re-connect to a location, after making a protocol change, for it to take effect.

Also, is this a wired or wireless connection?

Changing the protocol to ssl 443 seems to have fixed the issue! Ive been trying over wireless and ethernet but maybe my ISP is throttling torrents somehow?

Thank you

It's quite possible they're throttling. It's possible to tweak traffic shaping to only happen in certain conditions; hence one possible reason why you initially had good regular speeds, but then had issues with torrenting. It's bad practice, but some ISPs do it. Here's some supporting information on SSL and SSH as well, if you're technically inclined. I'm glad it worked anyway - enjoy yourself & welcome to AirVPN  !
