Can't use Network lock due to runnning games outside tun. Looking for killswitch or firewall to prevent leaks. Help?

Recommended Posts

I wrote support about my problem and they told me to find a kill switch or set up my firewall as a way around the network lock and make sure it works with openvpn.

I know nothing about kill switches or setting up my firewall

Anyone can help me with this?

So you want to stop a certain program from using the real IP interface?

Can you bind that program to the VPN interface? If so, does it revert to the real interface if the VPN drops? If not, then problem solved.

Otherwise, for Windows there is an illustration of how to do this with the Windows firewall for a torrent client in this guide:

Windows firewall allows blocks to be placed on a specific executable.

Or are you using some other OS?

what do you mean by "network lock" ?

network lock is a function in the Eddie software.

yes, i know, just asking because sometimes people post things and confuse terms so wanted to define it before going further.

EXACTLY the opposite of what you just said. I have my games binded to the real network interface, but because i have games running outside the tunnel, I cant use the network lock because then they wouldnt work. I want a kill switch or firewall in case the vpn leaks.

Hello!

You have various options. Pick the most appropriate one for your case.

1) Run one of the many "kill switch" programs. Make sure to pick one that is compatible with OpenVPN and remember that the protection provided by such programs is low and leaks can occur.

2) Use Network Lock and enter in Eddie field "Allowed addresses" in "AirVPN" > "Preferences" > "Network Lock" all the IP addresses of the game servers you connect to (if the game requires peer to peer connections with other game clients without passing through the game servers this solution is not applicable).

3) Define your own firewall rules.

Kind regards

I put airvpn on public and my normal net on private. Went into windows firewall and i blocked all connections from my private net and set a rule so only airvpn and openvpn can access the net and it's working great.

Although i have issues with setting a rule for other programs to bypass the firewall but it's not a big deal. So far it's working great, pretty sure/hopefully windows firewall is fullproof and won't leak. Tested disconnecting the vpn and i couldnt access the web so its working.
