ANSWERED Eddie locks up - Linux Mint 18.1 takes down the network.

I'm not sure what's going on but periodically once every 2-3 days I completely lose all network connections on the linux computer running AirVPN using the network lock through Eddie. I don't know 100% for sure it's AirVPN that is causing this loss of internet activity, but at the same time it happens everything on my computer other than Eddie works and is responsive.

 

At these times when my network has gone down, both intranet and internet, the Eddie window will still be open in my taskbar and I can maximize / minimize it and drag the window around but it is completely unresponsive to any interaction. Clicking close or the disconnect button or anything else for that matter does nothing. I'm not sure if there is some way I can set up logging because at the point it has become unresponsive it's impossible to export any logs via Eddie. Killing Eddie via the terminal or gnome-system-monitor doesn't even close the Eddie window; It just still sticks around completely unresponsive. I'm very frustrated to say the least. AirVPN works perfectly on my windows 10 box.

 

This was supposed to be a headless server and I mostly control it with Nomachine but I can't even get in through my intranet when this happens. I have it connected to a TV as a makeshift monitor at present to work on troubleshooting which is far from ideal. I'm no Linux expert though and I'm really not sure what to do about this. I'll probably try running it without the network lock active as a test for a few days, but that's not a palatable long term solution because qbittorent doesn't respect the network interface selected in the advanced options so if the AirVPN server goes down then my IP will leak (this is an entirely separate issue however where the fault lies with qbittorent.)

 

Any help is appreciated trying to resolve these problems. Worst case if nothing else works I'll try switching distros over to Fedora or something, and if I'm still suffering this problem then AirVPN just won't be of any use to me (and I've paid for 6 months with another 4 or so to go.) I have not installed any additional network drivers beyond what comes with Mint, but it works fine other than when it's locking up as I mentioned (which I very much believe is being caused by AirVPN since it's just too coincidental that it locks up and becomes completely unresponsive at the exact same time my internet goes down.)

Okay,  I figured out how to keep logs and my connection crashed on me again since keeping logs. I'll post what I believe to be the most relevant section below. If somebody could let me know how, I can upload the entire log as an attachment or something. If this isn't an option I could put a copy on a filesharing service such as dropbox.

I've changed my router firewall settings to allow pings from outside my network and will see if that fixes my problem.

Changing my router firewall settings did not fix the issue as my network has gone down yet again. I will try running for a while without using AirVPN to make sure the OS itself is stable. The lack of feedback to help with this issue has been a bit disheartening.

First of all, please post your entire log from start to finish.

 

Second of all, are you using WiFi to connect to everything or is there a wired connection involved too?

 

Third, have you tried updating the Eddie client? Perhaps even trying the Beta version?

 

Fourth, I haven't experienced qBittorent acting in the way described. At any rate, Network Lock should help.

 

Fifth, please remember that there is a dedicated support channel in the Client Area. So you're not reliant on replies here .

This does not look like a client or OpenVPN issue.

Your network adapter goes down for some reason, and you are unable to access any server, not only Air ones.

Unstable network drivers in Linux is a common issue, especially Wireless ones under heavy load.

Switching for another distro with other drivers may solve it.

 

This line means your network is down, try to ping your default gateway when it occurs.

The network issues could be totally unrelated to AirVPN, I just found it suspicious that the program was crashing at the same time my network went down. At present I'm testing running the OS without AIrVPN to see if it's stable. It hasn't gone down yet but I've only been running a day and a half and the crashes have been occurring every 3rd day or so. I can try pining as you mentioned if it goes down again and let you know what happens.

I realize it's been a while since my last post so I wanted to post an update. I have indeed determined that you are correct that the issue lay with my OS itself. Since updating core components my network is now 100% stable, and previously while testing I had the network go down even while not using AirVPN.

 

I am still however having issues with AirVPN where the program itself is crashing on me but the UI still stays active but unresponsive to any input. I will make a separate thread about that issue though as it is independent from the one this thread was about.
