ANSWERED Are there alternate connections where OpenVPN is not an option?

I understand that AirVPN has excellent reasons for selecting OpenVPN as a foundation for it's VPN service.  However, not all devices/appliances have OpenVPN available as options.

 

I might be missing it in my forum search... but is there an alternate connection path for such devices?  Fop example, it sounds like OpenVPN isn't coming anytime soon for Win10 Mobile, and the phone natively only offers PPTP, L2TP/IPSec (with Cert or Pre-shared key), and IKEv2.

 

I've read some threads commenting on the pitfalls of the first two types, but not IKEv2.  Is there hope?

AirVPN only does OpenVPN. You can find Staffs IKEv2 comment here.

 

PPTP/L2TP aren't secure. Windows 10 for mobile is also pretty dead. They don't even have a 5% marketshare.

Ah, there's the reason!

 

Despite MS really not helping their phone's market share (i.e. app-gap)... I do prefer their phones OS to anything else offered to-date, and will pitch my tent in the MS camp for the foreseeable future.  I've previously tried Blackberry, then migrated to two generations of android (S3 and S4) before making the switch to Win10M.

 

Hopefully some of the projections about moving to full Win10 on ARM (and I think something called Cshell) where win32 apps will run natively will mean that either the eddie client or OpenVPN client will run on future MS phones one day.

 

I might also contemplate dusting off my Sonicwall TZ190 just to setup a VPN for my phone if I feel jumping on public WiFi is something I really want to do... or maybe learn something new and convert an old PC to a pfsense router if it can offer something similar.
