I am a new AirVPN user. I started using the service today. I am on a 200 mbit down, 20 mbit up connection. With the AirVPN client and a recommended connection I get slow speeds.

best output I got from multiple speed tests:

Down: 29.500 Mbit/s Out, 29.010 Mbit/s In (98%), 20MB - Up: 17.635 Mbit/s Out, 17.583 Mbit/s In (99%), 20MB - Date: Tue, 29 Nov 2016 22:41:15 GMT - Buffers: 20MB/20MB - Laps: 3, Time: 51.22 secs

I have tried:

- change buffer sizes (256, 512 bytes)

- change all kind of combination of connection settings (UDP, TCP, SSL, SSH, different ports)

- downgrade the TAP driver (disabled driver sigining in Win10 to get it installed)

- try different servers

but nothing changed the speed for the better. At some points speed actually was even worse.

Is there anything else I can do to get better speed? Or is it impossible to get (near) 200 mbit down speed. Without AirVPN I always get 200 mbit download speeds.

My system:

Win10 (up to date), running: Avira, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Anti-Exploit

i5-3570K runing at 4.4ghz, 16 GB ram

Hello!

You could also try the Experimental client, if you're so inclined . I'm not sure if it'll make a difference, but it certainly comes with a lot of updates, which may make that happen. Also, it works better with all that 3rd party security software that you've got - which may perhaps be interfering with the operation of your current Eddie program. It's quite possible to max your connection and/or get very high speeds, as evidenced by the many other users who do so.

Do make sure to use different kinds of speed tests too and not just Airs built-in one, if that's what you meant when you said multiple speed tests. Lastly, if you're torrenting as a way of testing your speeds for example, remember to do some port-forwarding as well.

Welcome to AirVPN as well !

I'm extrapolating that you're on Virgin Media with that connection speed, assuming you're in the UK. How are you testing the speeds? Presuming you're on VM, connect to your closest server using port 53 UDP. Close any other programs using bandwidth and then:

1) Forward a port in the Client Area

2) Enter that port into a torrent client (preferably qBittorrent), making sure that uTP and any rate limiting is disabled and that your forwarded port is entered into the appropriate box under Network Settings or similar.

3) Download an Ubuntu 16.10 Desktop x64 torrent and see what speeds you get.

You can also try a http test via your browser using this link. It's a huge CDN (content delivery network) and will pretty much saturate your line. Please note that - last time I checked - MalwareBytes real time cripples machines and makes networking very sluggish. Try disabling it, rebooting and then re-trying the above tests if you don't get the results you want. Presuming (again) that you're on VM, which version of the SuperHub do you have, and how are you connected to it? Any of the SHs perform infinitely better in modem mode (I connect to mine through a pfSense firewall/router I built), and certainly connect by ethernet (wired) to test properly. Wifi is far too unreliable in most cases, although a proper 5GHz >80MHz setup can often be close.

You could also try a Linux virtual machine (eg Debian under VirtualBox) with the networking set to bridged adapter. That will rule out the Windows install (mostly) and allow you more freedom to test. It also means you can use curl to test from the terminal. Just log in to the terminal as root and then 'apt install curl' and then 'curl http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test > /dev/null' to see what speeds you're pulling. If that means nothing to you don't worry, just try the rest of the suggestions. Also ensure you try on and off peak (for example anything from about 4pm until midnight is definitely on peak for most of the VM areas).

Report back.

Thanks for your replies. I have been using airVPN today for some more testing. Also using other tests, as well as the test that rainmakerraw refers to. It seems much better than the test that is linked to from within Eddie. I get better speeds, and have actually gotten close to 120 mbit /s. Which is much better than the 30 mbit I was getting. Usenet speeds seem slower than normal, but that is probably because I'm using SSL connections. So this would then go on top of the VPN connection, and end up being a bit of an overkill.

BTW, I'm not in the UK on Virgin, but in NL on Ziggo. I usually have very good speeds being close to the cities' infrastructure backbone.
