New 1 Gbit/s server available (CZ)

Recommended Posts

Hello!

We're very glad to inform you that a new 1 Gbit/s server located in the Czech Republic is available: Zuben.

The AirVPN client will show automatically the new server, while if you use the OpenVPN client you can generate all the files to access it through our configuration/certificates/key generator (menu "Client Area"->"Config generator").

Zuben accepts connections on ports 53, 80, 443, 2018 UDP and TCP.

Just like every other Air server, Zuben supports OpenVPN over SSL and OpenVPN over SSH.

As usual no traffic limits, no logs, no discrimination on protocols and hardened security against various attacks with separate entry and exit-IP addresses.

Do not hesitate to contact us for any information or issue.

Kind regards and datalove
AirVPN Team

Hmm, ipleak.net says it's from the United Kingdom. Also does dnsleaktest.com and whoer.net. That's strange. Maybe they ought to update the geolocation databases.

The server is physically in CZ but unfortunatelly I think it will never be geolocated to CZ,

since M247 is a UK company and all the IPs in AS9009 have the "GB" country in the RIPE records.

Even 89.238.166.0/24 has servers that are located in UK, for example 89.238.166.1.

So it will be very hard to ask Maxmind to change a country to a netblock smaller than /24.

Very unfortunate address assignment from M247's side, it's not Air's fault.

We have made exactly the same considerations but ultimately we decided to make this server public because at the moment we have no valid alternatives in Prague (with the same or higher requirements). We are working to see if we can get different IP addresses for a more favorable geo-location.

Kind regards

@Staff after a long research I managed to find addresses on M247 which Maxmind respects as CZ.

Those are at 83.143.240.0/27.

So if they have 3 IPs still available, that might work great.

Forget it, it's SWIP made in November for another VPN provider.

Seems this is the only way with M247, sub-leasing /27 and asking Maxmind to change it.

However 83.143.240.32-39, 83.143.240.40 - 83.143.240.47 are still correct with CZ and seem not to be SWIPed, so if they squeeze in some 3 IPs all users should be happy.

I sent a correction request to Maxmind last week, for 89.238.166.232/29.

M247 did the required changes in RIPE DB, netname is now M247-LTD-Prague (perfect!)
and country is set to CZ. We will have to wait for Maxmind.

Update:

Maxmind finally approved it and you can check the exit IP (89.238.166.235) here:

https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-demo

Usually websites update their geoip databases every few weeks, but this is great news.
