Hello,

i'm considering buying the AirVPN service, i read very old post about mikrotik configuration.

I want to connect the airvpn's vpn on my mikrotik router to route all connection (from my home network clients) through AirVPN. Is it possibile? Is there some limitation?

Thank you in advance, kind regards

Marcello

Hello,

since we're not familiar with Microtik you could find yourself without our support in case of necessity, anyway you can get community support of course (which is often excellent); therefore do not hesitate to ask for a free trial coupon which will let you have a free three days subscription, probably the best way to determine whether the service meets your requirements and expectations without spending money. Make sure to file a request to "Trial request" dep. from your registered account.

Kind regards

Hello,

There should not be any issue with it, did you try the wiki?

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/OpenVPN_Configuration_Step_by_Step

If you are unable to configure it, you can post the steps here and someone might help you.

Hello,

i'm configuring airvpn using this guide: http://unblockvpn.com/support/how-to-set-up-openvpn-on-router-mikrotik.html

I generated airvpn config via https://airvpn.org/generator/ selecting router etc, and obviously replacing with relevant airvpn configuration.

And the wiki zhang888 linked.

Unfortunately i'm stuck here: http://imgur.com/slSbLr4

Seems that (with mikrotik) i can't use user certificate instead of username and password. I can select only one certificate. Maybe it's a GUI problem and is possibile via CLI. (tbh the post is quite old http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=85259 )

Can you help me? Thank you in advance.

Buy AFAIK you should import user.cer certificate and select it on that window together with user and pass.

There is also a HMA videotutorial that explains how to set OpenVPN on mikrotik

If user and password are used isn't ca.crt the certificate that's needed?  Is that type of connection even possible with Air?

The video is very interesting but AFAIK AirVPN does not provide username and password for VPN connection. How can i solve this?

Hello!

Authentication to our VPN servers is not based on username and password but on certificates and keys. The username and password you enter in our client are not used as credentials to connect to the VPN servers.

Kind regards

So the video posted by Zaroad is not a viable solution right?

Thanks!

Hi ada7123a44,

Seems like it is impossible to work with this device under the current AirVPN settings, which are very strong security-wise but requires a recent version of OpenVPN (2.0 minimum is required).

The tls-auth option was added somewhere around 2004 in 2.0-beta7, but Mikrotik doesn't support it yet, which means they are probably using an older version for now.

https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/documentation/change-log/changelog-20x.html

Their official wiki says that those options are unsupported:

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/OVPN

Currently unsupported OVPN feature:

  • UDP mode
  • LZO compression
  • TLS authentication
  • authentication without username/password

This is very unfortunate. Even small free, open-source firmwares (OpenWRT etc) support it for years.
