Grumium server resolves to an Iran hosting company

Hello,

 

I noticed that when connecting to the Grumium server (perhaps others in Canada), the hostname resolves to hosted-by.irandatahost.net, which is obviously not good. To all outside observers, it appears as though my traffic is pointed there.

 

Why is this the case?

I noticed it with many other servers as well.

 

Seems like irandatahost.net used to own a bigger block in Yesup's 199.19.95.0/24, and Air just didn't clear the PTR record on the IPs.

 

If Staff could edit PTR records, especially on all NL servers, from hosted-by.* to nothing or to .in-addr.arpa, that could help with some webistes

that log and/or block access from VPNs just based on that.

Especially some torrent trackers don't like proxies/VPNs. And hosted-by.* appearing in logs would almost never be a residential or business connection.

YesUp (as well as several other providers) does not provide the option to autonomously edit PTR.

There must be a way to do it, probably manually with a ticket.

 

Here are examples of "neighbours" that have custom PTRs:

if the hosted-by* PTRs can be cleared out, it can only do good for the users that don't want a hosting PTR to appear in website logs.
