Internet Stops at Night Only

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Hoping someone can explain this estrange case that has me very confused. I am not sure if my ISP is warning me or what is going on. I recently started leaving my laptop on torrenting (using a VPN) at night since during the day my roommates are home and don't want the speeds to slow down for them. When I wake up in the morning, I notice that the internet always is out with the warning logo in the WiFi icon on the taskbar. I have to reset the router, restart the laptop and then it works. Some other estrange situations are my phone's or SmartThings WiFi working, just not the laptop. I was told this could be by a kill switch? Is it possible to fix that on Eddie if that's what's causing it? However, if I torrent on VPN while I am using the computer for 8 or 9 hours straight, the internet doesn't go down and it works just fine. So my question is, why is this happening in the middle of the night? I should also mention that I have Xfinity as my ISP and I am using their router. I tried setting up OlenVPN but it leaks DNS. I am using Windows 10 if there's a fix for that also.

Thanks!

Hello!

Did you make sure your computer isn't going into any sort of hibernation or low power state?

If you're using Eddie and you configured your torrent client correctly (see the New User guide in my signature if you need details), your ISP wouldn't know what you were up to anyway, so a warning is unlikely.

But if you're unsure, simply make sure Network Lock is enabled and then go to ipleak.net and download the test torrent. Then you can see if you're leaking anything while torrenting.

I don't know what that SmartThings is, but it has little to do with any sort of killswitch I think. Eddie's "killswitch" is the Network Lock.

Also, if Eddie were doing something wrong, you would see it in the logs, which you could share with us. If there was a disconnect during the night, you would see it in the logs.

You could try pinpoint which warning logo you're seeing.

Thank you very much for your reply. The computer is not going into sleep mode or anything like that. I'll give the network lock a try tomorrow and see if that solves the issue. Any idea about OpenVPN leaking DNS? Is there anything to setup on Windows 10 and OpenVPN? I kinda liked it and would like to use it.

Best,

If you're using Eddie's Network Lock you won't be leaking and you would always be able to check on ipleak.net in any case .

Airs Eddie program is an OpenVPN wrapper in itself essentially and Air only uses this protocol.

But going back to my question, is there a way to fix the leaking of OpenVPN on W10?

So my question is, why is this happening in the middle of the night?

Check your ISP modem logs? You'll see the time when a reboot/update has occurred. My ISP does that 2:00am to 4:00am.

Other than that use one of the links for more info/details....provided below.

I don't use Eddie, but pretty sure it also saves OpenVPN logs, so you should post them if possible.

I remember having similar problems back when I was forced to use 4G as only internet. The problem was that OpenVPN didn't realize that my IP had changed and kept the connection on, instead of reconnecting.
