Is my torrenting VPN setup correct?

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I just wanted to explain my settings to make sure my real IP isn't exposed.

My router is connected to an SMC gateway. I have the SMC gateway set to DMZ so that the router is in charge of doing the NAT and DHCP.

I have no ports forwarded/triggered in the router.

I have one torrent port forwarded here on the website, and then I plugged in that port in the torrent client. It says the port is open.

My question: Can a copyright holder see my real IP with that port forwarded?

Are there any other considerations?

Thanks!

He can see the AirVPN server IP with the remotely forwarded port. Just don't forward the same port on your router.

You could check your torrent IP with checkmytorrentip.com to be sure. Download the torrent and open it with your torrent client. Start it, view the trackers list and compare the shown IP with the one AirVPN should have given you.

Hello,

just an additional note to the above: in checkmytorrentip, from our USA servers, you will see a different IP address, because the traffic is re-routed (this is performed to bypass a lot of trackers problems we were made aware of in the past, so for consistency the traffic is re-routed even to the checkmytorrentip address). Just make sure that your real IP address never comes out in the test.

Kind regards

I think they do this intentionally for extra protection.

Even if it is more of a side effect than something intentional, it's welcomed.
