  1. Can do. Some copy the rules created by Network Lock and use or add to them meaning they don't have to use network lock! I'm using Linux (Mint) most of the time now which is different altogether and about 100 times faster for me.

  2. Hi Me Android,

    thanks, so quick workflow question:

How does one deactivate the NL ?

It appears, one has to manually disconnect in order to access the DEACTIVATE NL button... is that correct ?

What if I forget to deactivate the NL, and simply shutdown the computer... I assume the FW is still configured for the tunnel, and I can't use my normal internet once I restart... how would I restore the original FW rules to use my normal i-net connection ?

    Thanks.

    - Mv

Yes  you need to disconnect to see the big deactivate NL button but Eddie will deactivate it if you exit out of AirVPN in a normal manner. If you shut down the computer or it crashes then you will have to reset Windows FW or import a previously exported set of rules- you will also need to check your IPV4 DNS settings if Air doesn't shut down in an orderly fashion.

  3. I have a couple of questions regarding port forwarding. One - I saw this line - but it isn't explained in the FAQ page:

    • Watch for warnings from our security check: a red token implies that your anonymity layer may be lowered or broken by a malicious adversary.

What does this mean exactly? Where would I find this red token and what exactly could it mean? Also - is there any additional setup required after forwarding a specific port, or will this be automatic whenever connecting through the client?

And lastly - for Dynamic DNS - is there a specific naming convention I should be following for this when coming up with a name?

Thanks in advance, I know this is several questions.

    KR

On the forwarded ports page you will see a 'check' button for every port you have forwarded on each server your account is connected to. I don't know what checks are made but presumably unless the indicator turns red all is ok. If any of mine turned red I would remove the port and contact Air but its not happened in my experience here.

You can check it whenever you like - no need unless something isn't working. I usually remove a port if I am not using it since you can map any port number to the port you want anyway. The DDNS can be anything - use your own naming convention that no one else will easily guess I suppose!

There is no other setup to do, the port will be forwarded immediately.

I take it from your comments that, to the Average Advert company, I am Mr Invisible?

Be as careful as if you are not using a VPN. Your ISP will not know what you are doing but if your not using https then all your traffic beyond the VPN exit node (exit IP) will still be in plain text for anyone to see if they so wish. Your traffic will be mixed up with everyone elses on that server though and your real IP address will not be seen.

What you mean beyond? As far as I know the traffic is encrypted by the Eddie and sent to the servers that then send it to where you were browsing and the returning traffic from the site is encrypted by the AirVPN server and the Eddie then recieve it and decrypt it for your computer. And to me beyond means that the traffic is not encrypted after the VPN node

I mean between the VPN server and your destination  (eg. a web site). Your data is encrypted only between your computer and the VPN server. The VPN server decrypts your data before sending it on to its destination. The VPN service has no control over what happens to your data once it sends it on. When it receives data meant for you, it encrypts it before sending it back.

A Virtual Private Network is only between you and the VPN's server you connect to, not all the way to whatever the destination is. With https, the s stands for secure, which means it is encrypted whether you use a VPN or not, therefore when https data is sent on by the VPN server it is still https and thus secure from end to end.

  6. Who do governments, especially the UK, employ as technical advisors for goodness sake. As has been intimated those that want/need to keep things secret will do so, no matter how the stupid government legislates. As usual they just love wasting time and public money on pointless tasks as long as they are aimed at keeping an eye on the masses.

  7. It is working thanks but very very slowly for me (using Gienah, Firefox, add-ons switched off, not thru Tor). The page is still loading as I write after five mins.

It had finished but the page is not formatted correctly - is that a separate problem? The site is not usable.

Added: Today, the site is working just fine

    Many Thanks

  8. Just like my nephews, they always want the xmas presents in advance...

But unlike OP they are <10 years old

Thats fine but a VPN sub is a slightly odd present for an eight year old I would suggest
