  1. OS Linux Mint 18.3
    Mono version 6.12.0.122 (Feb, 2021)

Problem: through eddie I make a connection to a [Dutch] vpn exit server. When the vpn connection is established I cannot reach any Internet destination; it just times out.

/etc/resolv.conf is renamed by eddie to /etc/resolv.conf.eddie and reinstated after vpn connection is closed. dnscrypt-proxy listens on tcp/udp 127.0.0.1:53

    # Created for dnscrypt-proxy
    # This is a content of /etc/resolv.conf
    nameserver 127.0.0.1
    options edns0
to stop Networkmanager overwriting /etc/resolv.conf the following lines exist in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
    dns=none
    #dns=dnsmasq
I have no idea why the vpn connection seems to successfully connect but leaves me without any connectivity. Could anyone please have a look at the log file attached and help me please? Thank you in advance.

Service available on IPv4 and IPv6 , also on alternative ports: :8000 (IPv4,IPv6) and :62222 (IPv4,IPv6) (for detection of routing based on destination ports). Look the forum for support, feedback, API.

Data partially based on MaxMind database. Results may be cached, refer to MaxMind for more accuracy.

Based on the footer of IPLeak website (see above), I'd say IPLeak uses MaxMind's GeoIP2 data services and databases, no?

  3. To answer my own post: I think 'DNS Address detection' broke on IPLeak (website) as the '0 servers, 100 errors' fault is also present without VPN.
Also on my mobile [network] IPLeak gives the above mentioned error. It may not be AirVPN related, after all. 🤷‍♂️

    Other things I tried:
    - rebooted my modem, router and computer
    - restarted the DNS service on my computer

EDIT: IPLeak DNS Address detection is working normally, again!

  4. I too experience DNS Address - 0 servers, 100 errors on IPLeak. Both IPv4 and IPv6 show addresses for AirVPN server in the Netherlands.
However dnsleaktest will show United Kingdom as 'Country'. This has lead to geographical blocking on a Dutch website I wanted to visit.

I've used both stable Eddie v2.18.9 and experimental Eddie v2.19.4 (Linux Debian/Ubuntu) and both have above described DNS problem!

It seems the fault '0 servers, 100 errors' is also present when connecting to other country AirVPN servers i.e. UK, Belgium, Germany. However those were reporting the correct country in dnsleaktest.

Note: that browsing the Internet could be done as per normal; except for the case where I tried to access the (Dutch) website that used geo-blocking due to wrong DNS server location being reported.

That is a very bad advice and an unnecessary security threat.

Thanks. I agree. I was traveling when Firefox disabled all add-ons [without notification] as I badly needed my add-ons.
Since default Linux Mint’s update channel is only on 66.0.3 I used the about:config 'hack' as a temporary workaround.

  6. Eddie for Android 2.1 is a major refinement of version 2.0.1 and implements several features which were suggested by the community. It also underwent a deep re-engineering of some architectural components which translates into higher stability, correct co-existence with other VPN and non-VPN applications and in general improved events handling.

It is nice to know and see that community suggested features can make it into new releases. I, in particular, am very satisfied that the app is now aware of concurrent VPN use.

I have tested with OpenVPN for Android and Adguard and the OS correctly revokes from any already running VPN application the permission to operate the VPN connection. The developers had considered this for a future Eddie version since 2.0 and have now delivered with 2.1. Bravo. Well done!

  7.

Profile option within 'AirVPN Server Settings' values are reversed when connecting from AIRVPN SERVER -tab

However the QUICK CONNECT -tab Profile option shows correctly in CONNECTION -tab.

For example: when set to 'Mobile Phone' it shows up as 'Laptop' in CONNECTION -tab. And when set as 'Laptop' it shows as 'Mobile Phone'. The values are reversed.

    Hello!

We can't reproduce the issue: we see no difference between "Quick" and "Server" connection views reports. However we are not sure we have understood correctly what you mean. Would you like to elaborate?

    Kind regards

This has now been resolved in version 2.0.1. Correct profiles now showing in "Quick" and "Server" connection views reports and is correct even in the account "Client Area"

  8.

    • I choose Mobile Phone --> Connect Server --> Profile: Laptop on CONNECTION -tab
    • I choose Laptop --> Connect Server --> Profile: Mobile Phone on CONNECTION -tab
Minor cosmetic error, perhaps some string parameter(s) got reversed in code.

The behaviour described above is also observed in on-line Client Area of the AirVPN website.

    Hello!

Very strange, we can't reproduce the issue in any way. Everything appears fine on several devices we tested. Everything is correct even in the account "Client Area".

    Kind regards

Very odd indeed but thank you for taking the time trying to reproduce on several devices. I am consistently able to reproduce 10 out of 10. The update 1.0 -> 2.0 was delivered through the Play Store. Since

    • I have cleared all data
    • reinstalled Eddie Android version 2.0 from Play Store
    • deleted Eddie Android version 2.0
    • reinstalled apk directly from your repository

All with the same outcome every time. What I did notice, and I don't know if this was by design or not, is that both Profile drop-down boxes on QUICK CONNECT -tab and AIRVPN SERVER -tab respectively, are linked i.e. change one and the other changes accordingly to same value.

Still to use your own words to describe Eddie Android: "Version 2.0 is a quantum leap when compared to 1.0"

It is outstanding! Hence thumbs up for that

  9. For your consideration

[i know I am sweating the small stuff now ]

Are the following pop-ups entirely necessary?

For me this is what the CONNECTION -tab is already giving me.

It saves another finger-press acknowledging the popup OK-button. Besides for those who like the extra acknowledgement; that's what Eddie Notifications can do for you already. Urgent Make sound and pop up on screen

I'll admit this is just cosmetics. Or is it?

  10. We can't reproduce the issue: we see no difference between "Quick" and "Server" connection views reports. However we are not sure we have understood correctly what you mean. Would you like to elaborate?

    Two devices (profiles):

      - Laptop

      - Mobile Phone

The Profile drop-down box on QUICK CONNECT -tab is correct: I choose Mobile Phone --> Quick Connect --> Profile: Mobile Phone on CONNECTION -tab

    BUT

The Profile drop-down box under cogwheel on AIRVPN SERVER -tab reverses the values:

    • I choose Mobile Phone --> Connect Server --> Profile: Laptop on CONNECTION -tab
    • I choose Laptop --> Connect Server --> Profile: Mobile Phone on CONNECTION -tab

Minor cosmetic error, perhaps some string parameter(s) got reversed in code.

The behaviour described above is also observed in on-line Client Area of the AirVPN website.

  11. Thank you very much for your feedback and thorough report. ProMIND thanks you back.

Understood. You talk about two separate issues. They are both under consideration for a resolutive implementation in a future Eddie version.

    .

    .

The second issue requires an implementation from scratch in order to catch new kind of events and take actions accordingly. It has been planned as well.

Thank you kindly for listening and your understanding. I greatly anticipate your future Eddie version(s)

In the meantime, always remember (we write it for the readers too) that running in parallel multiple OpenVPN based applications (or multiple OpenVPN instances) is a risky business on any system if you don't know exactly what you're doing.

    Kind regards

    Of course, duly noted.

    Best regards,

    JB

  13. Thank you ProMIND for Eddie Android edition 2.0. Much appreciated.

Further to my reply to Eddie Android edition 1.0 topic I find that Eddie Android edition 2.0 does [also] not play nicely with other VPN apps. On the premise that Android can only have one active VPN connection at a time, Eddie Android edition disconnects a VPN connection (i.e. OpenVPN for Android or Adguard) the moment that Eddie Android edition app opens [first time] or its GUI gets focus [again]. Imho I think the timing of disconnecting the active VPN is incorrect. If possible it would be more timely to disconnect the active VPN at the moment Eddie Android edition starts a VPN connection.

Vice versa, Adguard has code that will graciously pause its application sending a notification that reads: "Protection is paused until the other VPN app finishes its work. Tap to resume", on the other hand, Eddie Android edition does not handle this in a similar manner. For example when Eddie is connected and I then connect to a server with OpenVPN for Android, Eddie's GUI and notification both display a connection (not paused, not disconnected). And the moment Eddie Android edition takes focus it disconnects the VPN established through OpenVPN for Android maintaining it is connected but it most definitely is not.

Checking within Eddie Android edition whether there is another VPN app taking control can be improved. My tuppence worth

  14. The app has definitely made progress since the initial release but I still have to use OpenVPN for Android as Eddie doesn't play well with AdGuard. If AdGuard is enabled and the VPN is disconnected, OpenVPN for Android has no trouble reconnecting. Eddie, on the other hand, fails to reconnect. Just wondering how I could help fix this because I'd love to use Eddie but don't want to lose AdGuard because of it.

I concur, thank you to the development team for progress made till date.

Compatibility with AdGuard is an issue as it does not get paused automatically or incorrectly when the 'Connect' -button in Eddie is pressed.

Through some testing of my own AdGuard gets paused

      - when Eddie application opens or takes the focus however

      - when the 'Connect' -button is pressed AdGuard resumes and Eddie reports VPN has been locked.

In comparison OpenVPN for Android does not pause AdGuard any earlier than when VPN profile gets selected. I.e. just opening the OpenVPN for Android does not pause AdGuard; selecting a profile for connection does.

  15. Hello!

Thank you for addressing this security 'flaw' affecting Windows firefox, chrome and opera web browsers.

And also thank you for the quick addition of the WebRTC detection check to ipleak.net.

Alternatively, Chrome users can install the ScriptSafe extension and Firefox users could block the request with the NoScript addon, which both reportedly block the vulnerability.

Opera users can download this plugin that will allow them to download and use Google Chrome add-ons.

  16. Thank you Air for your clear and concise answer. Apologies for having 'hacked' the Eddie experimental forum with my question; I am still finding my way around in the community.

To my relieve I did understand this 'Routing' function correctly and had everything setup just the way you outlined in your post and working for my mail servers. Shame, I cannot add zone names for Google mail. Guess I have to start hunting around for their IP address blocks if I want to be able to add the these servers to 'Routes'

  17. Apologies Air, my bad. I am new to AirVPN and Eddie, I wrongly believed RC3 and 2.8.6 to be the same. I was already on 2.8.6.

Hence the minor bug and my question remain the same as per my previous post.

Any one who can comment on how to use 'Routes' to put hosts by zone name in 'Outside tunnel'. Is this possible?

Or some one can advise how I can put all my e-mail traffic (imap, imaps, pop3, smtp) in 'Outside tunnel'. I thought that this could be done in 'Routes' but maybe I am not understanding correctly.

    Thank you.

  18. OS: Windows7 32 bit

    Client: release: 2.8 RC3

    Minor bug:

'Preferences', 'Routes' -->  the Notes field is not saved when using commas in text.

    Question:

'Preferences', 'Routes' --> IP / Host - I can add IP numbers but not hosts

For example I want to add imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com or if possible just .gmail.com but the save -button remains greyed out.

Am I not allowed to add host by its zone name? I am trying to prevent the security warning emails from Google mail, by putting it in 'Outside tunnel'
