ANSWERED install issue with missing win8 TAP adapter

Recommended Posts

hello,

i am new to all this and have been trying to become secure in my internet travels since comcast has decided to treat customers poorly.

i grabbed the downloads for my system, which runs win 8-64 bit and started installing fine, except when it came to installing the TAP device driver. on the installer it reads, may need confirmation, then it gives an error saying an error occurred installing the tap device driver. i hit ok and the installation finishes. but after logging in and choosing a server the connection fails and in the log it says there are no tap adapters and the program had to close. can anyone explain what is going on?

thanks

nick

I had the same problem up to some minutes ago.

For me it helped to get the newest version of the openvpn software, which is

openvpn-install-2.3.2-I003-x86_64

this is very new ! (22 Aug I guess)

From the site I downloaded my installer initially,  I got the ... I002... version, which seems to have no valid signature for the drivers.

I did

  1. uninstall openvpn
  2. reboot ( to be sure everything is out of memory)
  3. install new version.

and then could immediately connect ...

@seanconnery

That's totally correct, there is a problem in the driver signature on installer I002 (and maybe on I001 as well): maybe related to expiration on 21-Aug-2013.

I003 solves the problem. We will update our package in the nearest future. In the meantime, those who run Windows and need a new OpenVPN installation can download OpenVPN 2.3.2 with installer I003 on the official OpenVPN community site:

https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html

Other OS users can ignore this message.

Kind regards
