'remote name could not be resolved' after changing dns settings

Recommended Posts

Hello

Afraid this might be a complete newbie question, but here goes. After reading this post on plugging DNS leaks

https://airvpn.org/topic/9289-dns-leaks-and-how-to-fix-them/

I tested for leaks on www.dnsleaktest.com which showed, what I thought to be a number of leaks.

So, I followed the instructions in the post to fix it by setting static IP and DNS server settings on my network adapter.

Also while checking the dnsleaktest site I followed the link to 'How to fix a DNS leak' and followed the 'Solution B' which involved som command line stuff.

Anyway, the upshot is that somewhere during the process, some setting or other has resulted in me not being able to connect to the airvpn client.

I just get the message:  The remote name could not be resolved: 'airvpn.org'

Any help would be appreciated as I'm just on a three day evaluation period and I've already wasted most of an afternoon trying to solve it...

thanks

Hello!

Have you edited your hosts file according to the very same message you linked? You'll need airvpn.org resolution if you use the Air client.

Kind regards

Hi any mods out there, could I get my replies approved please?

Anyway, I back-tracked a little and set my IPv4 properties back to obtain an IP address automatically. Now I can log back in to AirVPN.

First thing I did was go to IPleak.net and it came up with a bunch of IP addresses.

My address shows up as 94.229.74.91 which is obviously the AirVPN address

...but then it says detected DNS addresses:

178.255.84.6       United Kingdom      CCANET Ltd - Business

178.255.84.3       United Kingdom      CCANET Ltd - Residential

178.255.84.9       United Kingdom      CCANET Ltd - Business

178.255.84.10     United Kingdom      CCANET Ltd - Business

178.255.84.8       United Kingdom      CCANET Ltd - Business

178.255.84.7       United Kingdom      CCANET Ltd - Residential

178.255.84.5       United Kingdom      CCANET Ltd - Business

I can't tell if these signify a DNS leak or not - I don't recognise any of them. Could someone please advise?

thanks

the "dns leaks and how to fix them" is totally screwed up, don't edit your hosts file as stated, the IP address is not right.
