[SOLVED] Android doesn't use VPN connection

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just signed up for AirVPN. I downloaded the OpenVPN settings app for Android, installed it, and copied the files where they're supposed to be. I can connect to the VPN server with no issues, but when I visit the AirVPN site on the phone, it says "Not connected" at the bottom and shows me my IP address. Speedtest.net does the same thing. Why isn't it routing traffic through the VPN connection? I have Wi-Fi turned off, only using the cell connection. I've tried restarting the phone and taking it in and out of airplane mode also.

Thanks!

Hello!

Could you please publish the OpenVPN connection logs? They might be useful to understand where the problem is.

Kind regards

Hello!

From the logs it seems that OpenVPN is unable to invoke route and ifconfig:

Thu Nov 3 20:01:46 2011 Options error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in [PUSH-OPTIONS]:4: route (2.1.1)

Thu Nov 3 20:01:46 2011 Options error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in [PUSH-OPTIONS]:8: ifconfig (2.1.1)

The default_gateway route remains to a gateway (66.*.*.*) which is none of our servers and finally OpenVPN shuts the TUN and exits.

Apparently it is the following problem (a fix is suggested):

http://code.google.com/p/android-openvpn-settings/issues/detail?id=26

Let us know if the fix works for your phone.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Wow that was an almighty pain. Thanks to admin for the link. The following worked for me:

1. Installing OpenVPN using the OpenVPN installer app from the market. Use /system/xbin and /system/xbin/bb as the options when installing.

2. Installing the OpenVPN settings app from the market

3. Opening Terminal on the phone and typing the following:

>su

> mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

> mkdir /system/xbin/bb

> ln -s /system/xbin/ifconfig /system/xbin/bb/ifconfig

> ln -s /system/xbin/route /system/xbin/bb/route

> mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

Open the OpenVPN settings app and use "Fix DNS".

Hello!

The logs look just fine. After you have established the connection you should be visible from the Internet with the VPN server exit-IP, can you please check? The VPN DNS private IP address for clients connected to port 443 TCP is 10.5.0.1 (see here for all the others: https://airvpn.org/specs).

Is your system able to ping 10.5.0.1?

Also, would you please publish your kernel IP routing table (delete your real IP for privacy) after the connection?

Hello!

This netstat does not comply, the output is not the kernel IP routing table. Try then with

route -n
or

@zombie1982

Try:

ip route show

If this fails too, look at what's in /proc/net/route

cat /proc/net/route

Hello!

Yes, that's exactly what we asked for, thank you.

It looks like a very similar problem met on HTC Desire. Can you please read this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771857

and try the suggested fix?

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

JUHUUUUUUU ! Thats it !

After connect and type :

#su

#ip ru del table wifi

its working. I get the ext-IP from you.

Just need to configure that scirpt to automate this process.

Thanks thousand times for this Link. You are really smartest Admin I know

I'll do the rest

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:

My solution:

I added one line with parameter "route 10.5.0.1 255.255.255.255" in config file :

client

dev tun

proto tcp

remote 62.212.85.65 443

resolv-retry infinite

nobind

persist-key

persist-tun

ca "ca.crt"

cert "user.crt"

key "user.key"

ns-cert-type server

cipher AES-256-CBC

comp-lzo

route 10.5.0.1 255.255.255.255

verb 3
