ANSWERED Updated gnome from 2.30 to 3.4, and network-manager wont start vpn=(

Recommended Posts

I recently updated my Debian Squeeze to Debian Wheezy, lots of cool updates, however, I cant seem to get the VPN working like i used to on gnome 2.3. I installed network-manager-openvpn and network-manager-openvpn-gnome which seemed to do the trick on just about any gnome based distro, and yet it still wont turn on.

I know its not a problem with yalls service, and im kinda going out on a leg here, but do you have any suggestions ?

Thanks you!

Hello!

Understood. Please make sure that you're using split files (i.e. not-embedded configuration files) according to the instructions. If the problem persists please run OpenVPN directly and feel free to send us the logs.

Kind regards

Found out how to solve the problem.

First you have to make network-manager make the unmanaged connection managed.

So go to terminal and type on Debian based systems:

sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

change: managed=false to managed=true

save, and run in terminal: sudo service network-manager restart

You may have to disable wired connection 1, and restart network-manager again.

Should start up with no problems now =)
