AirVPN Client with W7: admin and auto disconnection

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am currently testing AirVPN and I must say the first impression is excellent.

I have a couple of questions about the client, especially if compared to other VPN's client.

1. Why admin privileges are needed to run it? Would it be possible (maybe with a future release) to run as standard user?

2. It's possible to configure it to shutdown any internet connection is VPN goes down? I do not have access to my router, thus I cannot set this up there. I need a workaround.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hello!

Thank you for your feedback.

1) The Air client is an OpenVPN wrapper which needs to launch OpenVPN with administrator privileges. OpenVPN needs elevated privileges to modify your routing table and default gateway. Please see this article by Sundman for some additional options (you will have to drop the Air client - anyway we do not bind you to use any proprietary software from us):
http://openvpn.se/files/howto/openvpn-howto_run_openvpn_as_nonadmin.html

2) No. Please consult our How-To section to do that (with Windows, we publish an easy Comodo firewall solution).

Kind regards
