socks proxy connection problems

Recommended Posts

Good morning, I am having a problem with the SOCKS proxy connection.

AirVPN client works fine (TCP and UDP) and I can connect using OpenVPN GUI to air, no problem.

However, when I try to connect using the SOCKS Proxy option it is always refused.

I tried to uninstall/reinstall the OpenVPN client; I tried to generate a key from the web site here with the correct settings; I installed it into the OpenVPN config directory; I tried to open OpenVPN using 'run as Admin'; I tried to use the AirVPN client and change the 'mode' to TCP/443 with SOCKS Proxy option; I tried using the older AirVPN client 1.7.....but nothing seems to work for my SOCKS Proxy option. I even quit my firewall (Comodo) before doing all of this in case there was something in there that was blocking it but still nothing.

Like I said, everything else works fine except the SOCKS Proxy option for me.

(I am trying to open TOR Browser Bundle then use AirVPN with SOCKS Proxy).

Everything else is working.

I'm using Windows 7.

I don't know what else to do. I imagine I am missing one small thing but I can't find it! It's very frustrating.

Maybe someone can help me?

I can show you both my logs: Below is the successful connection log using OpenVPN GUI to connect to 'air' and at the bottom is my latest connection log failure:

Hello!

It appears that the proxy is not listening to port 9050, maybe it is listening to some other port, can you please check?

Kind regards

I just tried to change the port number using: right click with OpenVPN GUI settings: Manual Config, SOCKS Proxy 127.0.0.1 Port 8080 then 1234 but the same is happening.

My Firewall is still off by the way.

Hello!

Please do not proceed randomly, there are almost 65535 ports the proxy can listen to. First, please determine (or configure) the port the proxy listens to. Then modify the OpenVPN configuration accordingly (port numbers must match).

Success! Port 9150 is working. Thanks.

For anyone else reading this with the same problem: I downloaded the SOCKS Proxy OpenVPN configuration files (.ovpn) from the AirVPN site and put it into the OpenVPN config folder on my computer (Programs folder). I changed the Proxy port in the downloaded file to 9150. Then I opened OpenVPN using Admin status, right clicked on the 2 small monitors icon and clicked 'settings', in the port box I also changed it to 9150 (to match the downloaded config file). Because I had already placed the OpenVPN config file into the config folder, I now had an option to connect to it specifically when I right clicked the 2 small monitors. I rolled over it and clicked 'connect' from the new menu. Here is my SUCCESSFUL log to prove it:
