WireGuard Handshake Timeout on Windows 10 - Tried multiple servers

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a connection issue I've been having with the Eddie client.

The Problem:
When I try to connect, the client starts but then fails with a "WireGuard > Handshake timeout" error. It tries connecting to multiple servers (e.g., Luhman, Gianfar, Celaeno) but fails in the same way each time, creating a connection loop . I've attached my log below.

My Setup:

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro (Version 10.0.19045)

  • Eddie Version: 2.24.6

  • Connection Type: Wired Ethernet (Bridge - Intel(R) 82579V)

  • Tried Protocols: WireGuard (this is what the log shows)

Logs:
I 2026.03.05 10:05:11 - Session starting.
. 2026.03.05 10:05:12 - Activation of Network Lock - Windows Filtering Platform
I 2026.03.05 10:05:13 - Checking authorization ...
! 2026.03.05 10:05:13 - Connecting to Luhman (Netherlands, Alblasserdam)
... (setup lines) ...
. 2026.03.05 10:05:21 - WireGuard > Handshake for peer 3 (213.152.186.170:1637) did not complete after 5 seconds, retrying (try 2)
... (this repeats multiple times) ...
W 2026.03.05 10:06:07 - WireGuard > Handshake timeout
! 2026.03.05 10:06:07 - Disconnecting
... (It then repeats the same process with other servers) ...

What I've tried so far (based on forum research) :

  1. Disabled third-party antivirus/firewall: I temporarily turned off my software to see if it was interfering.

  2. Tried different servers: The log shows it tried multiple servers in the Netherlands, all with the same result.

  3. Checked Windows Fast Startup: I have not disabled this yet, but I saw it recommended .

My Questions:

  1. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what might be causing this handshake timeout?

  2. Should I try forcing a different protocol (like OpenVPN TCP) in the Preferences to see if it's a WireGuard-specific issue ?

  3. Is there a way to test if my ISP is interfering with the connection ?

Thanks in advance for any help!
