Connect keeps timing out, OpenVPN client reporting high upload rate

Recommended Posts

Recently (last 2 weeks) i have been experiencing issues with my VPN connection timing out and coming back without disconnecting. I noticed in the client a weird upload reading when this is the case... is this a bug or known issue? See attached for screenshot.

Hello!

It's not a bug we're aware of, and anyway the connection is performed and maintained by OpenVPN (the Air client is an OpenVPN wrapper with some additional commodities).

Just after the problem has occurred, can you please send us the client logs?

Kind regards

Hello!

There are various issues on the logs... can you please try to install the latest OpenVPN release (if you have not already done so) and use the 1.8 Air client version, both available here:

https://airvpn.org/windows

If you are already running OpenVPN 2.3.0, please try to uninstall it completely and re-install it, making sure to authorize the installer to install all the drivers.

Also, please test a connection to a TCP port, in order to correct the significant packet replay you're currently experiencing. Finally, test different servers.

Kind regards

Hello Admin,

Thank you for the tip on updating the VPN client, that has seemed to stop the packet replay errors. I ran a TCP test though my ISP and then though the VPN. It found my MTU a little low (around 1400) when connected to the VPN but when direct though ISP it is fine. Is that something i should correct?

Hello!

If you get packet fragmentation yes, you should correct the issue on the client side. If not, you don't need any modification. Please send us again your client connection logs (after some minutes the connection is established) if you still experience packet fragmentation, so that we can suggest you how to optimize the connection.

Kind regards

Just wanted to say I have what sounds like the same thing:

screen: http://i.imgur.com/PPryDak.jpg?1

It manifests as v. high upload traffic straight off after connecting to server. Connection doesn't actually work either...

And CPU hog apparently. (see image).

I'm on Windows 8 if that is relevant. I shall follow the advice given at start of thread and see where I get but just wanted to say "me too" haha

Hello Nos4r2,

Yep that is what my client used to look like, i was using getting a reading of 42k kB/sec.. since i have updated my client i have not seen this issue since. I did not check my task manager maybe it was though the roof.. good looking out!

Can you run through exactly what you did?

I uninstalled Openvpn and then reinstalled it. No difference.

Problem persists on different servers.

I should also state that the upload speeds there are much faster than my connection. false readings - weird
