Cannot seem to connect under udp Port. Help?

Recommended Posts

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening.

I seem to be running into a bit of an issue that I am unable to solve myself. I have AirVPN client on 3 different computers. I am running it with Tunnelbrick on a Macbook; on a Windows based Desktop PC and Laptop PC.

My issue is that on my laptop PC with Windows 7 I am unable to connect to any server using the client under a udp port. My laptop is attempting to connect using a Wireless connection to my router instead of a wired connection. I can connect without an issue under tcp ports, but the connection speed is quite reduced and seems pointless to even use if I am getting less than 4 Mbps. On my Desktop PC using Windows 7(connected through a wired connection) I have no issue connecting on any udp port [or tcp port]. My Macbook which connects via wireless connection does not have any issue connecting under a udp port via Tunnelbrick.

Is there a setting somewhere in Windows 7 [firewall] or on my router that would be preventing me from connecting, using the AirVPN client, under a udp port, but not the tcp port? I have connected under all 3 tcp ports - 443, 80, 53. All 3 udp ports return "Connecting...." until the client times out and starts over.

Please any assistance would be appreciated. Given that I can connect on one of my Windows 7 based machines and not the other the only conclusion I can come to is it has something to do with my wireless to router connection instead of wired router connection OR there is a windows 7 setting somewhere that is not the same between machines. Thank you.

Hello!

Apparently the problem is not the wireless connection because your Mac can connect swiftly over WiFi.

To begin with, can you please send us the logs of the client running in the Windows 7 machine (the one with problems)? Have you tried to disable completely the firewall on that computer to test a connection over UDP?

Kind regards

Ok. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you till now. I've been away from the house the past few days. Below I have the logs for every different port to elaborate on what's going on. I have turned my firewall off, removed all the outbound/inbound rules on my firewall; pretty much tried everything relating to my windows firewall. I even went as far to turn the firewall off on my router as well. The Wireless Router I am using is:

Linksys E3000

Firmware Version: 1.0.04

I have wireless MAC address filtering turned on and the wireless network does not broadcast. It is a WEP2Personal setup with AES encryption.

Hello!

At a first glance, it might appear that your ISP blocks outbound UDP ports. However, the block toward 53 UDP is strange, because it would block DNS queries. So, maybe SSL/TLS negotiations are disrupted when performed through UDP (it would be very strange anyway).

Maybe there's still some program in your system that blocks OpenVPN outbound UDP packets. Try to determine if UDP packets are blocked only for OpenVPN or for any application.

Kind regards

I'm fairly to messing around with a VPN or protocols. Any suggestions on a program that uses udp with which I could test this theory?

Below is a log from my Desktop PC. It is running the same updated version of Windows 7.

Desktop PC: Connected via LAN

Laptop PC: Connected via WLAN

Both computers are connecting through the same Linksys router. And my Macbook has no issues connecting through Tunnelbrick via the same router. This is why I ruled out that wireless connection had something to do with it. But I'll let you look at this log of a connection via port 443 udp. I had no issues and it only took less than 1 minute to connect.

Hello!

The last logs you published show no problem at all. So it's definitely something in your laptop or router (only in WiFi) that blocks outbound UDP packets. First, please make a test with the laptop, but connected via cable, not wireless.

If the problem persists, check for antivirus, firewall, PeerBlock, PeerGuardian, Malwarebytes and any smilar program. Make sure to disable them one by one and perform a connection test on an UDP port each time. If the problem still persists, make sure that you have no malware in the system.

Please feel free to let us know at your convenience the outcome of the tests.

Kind regards
