How to use airVPN on Mandriva?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Anyone using airVPN on Mandriva with draktools willing to help out? I am using 2010.2, and this is first VPN setup ever for me.

1. Downloaded air.zip

2.Extracted and opened the drak vpn configuration tool

3.Picked OpenVPN (installed automatically)

4.Created new connection called AirVPN

5.Next dialog box: X509 Public Key Infrastructure;

PKCS #12 <empty>

Certificate Authority (CA) ca.crt

Certificate user.crt

Key user.key

6.Advanced tab: TLS control channel key: <empty>

Checked "Authenticate using username and password"

Unchecked "Check server certificate"

Cipher algorithm: "AES-256-CBC"

Size of cipher key: <empty>

7.Next dialog box: Gateway: 94.75.255.91

IP adress: "Get from server"

Local IP address <greyed out>

Remote IP address <greyed out>

8. Advanced tab: Gateway port: 443

Unchecked "Use TCP protocol"

Virtual network device type: "tun"

Virtual network device number (optional) <empty>

And it doesn't connect:)

Hello!

1) Activate your account on our website either with a 4 days trial code you can get for free requesting it (select "Support"-->"Contact us") or with a premium subscription ("Member"-->"Payment Plans" to see the prices).

2) Copy the files inside air.zip and paste them in the proper OpenVPN configuration directory (probably you have already done so, but see point 3: there's something wrong)

3) The gateway displayed in your configuration points to a server (94.75.225.91) which is currently offline. Perhaps you did not generate air.zip recently, or maybe you have created manually a configuration, or you are not pointing to the correct configuration .ovpn file

After having copied the correct air.ovpn configuration file, you should see in the drak vpn configurator all the options correctly configured (do not create a new connection if, by doing so, drak creates a new configuration).

As an alternative, you can use a shell (follow the instructions reported in "More"-->"Connect with..."-->"Linux") and get rid of drak.

After all of the above, if you can't connect do not hesitate to send us the complete OpenVPN connection log.

Kind regards

So, as a free member I have to contact you to get 4 day trial code? Consequently there is no free service then?

The IP and port I took from attached file that is included in the generated zip file that was generated and downloaded yesterday.

In drak tool I have to fill in all by hand. I wanted to try this before downloading and installing any other tool. [file name=air.txt size=458]https://airvpn.org/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/files/air.txt[/file]

Hello!

Yes, free service is available but you need to ask for it first. You may either use the menu "Support"-->"Contact us", or get the codes from Twitter (follow airvpn there). Please note that we take care to limit free accesses in order not to impair bandwidth guaranteed to premium members and activists; and not to allow scammers to resell the free service to unaware persons.

3) The gateway displayed in your configuration points to a server (94.75.225.91) which is currently offline. Perhaps you did not generate air.zip recently, or maybe you have created manually a configuration, or you are not pointing to the correct configuration .ovpn file.

It should be impossible to generate a configuration file with that IP. After your message we tested the generator once again and as a matter of fact it seems there's no way to generate an incorrect configuration file. How did you manage to get that? Did you see in the servers list "Altair"?

In drak tool I have to fill in all by hand. I wanted to try this before downloading and installing any other tool.

Ok, so you might proceed in this way: generate the proper configuration file, open it with a text editor, and fill by hand in drak the parameters you can see in air.ovpn.

Just to quickly address the config file issue before continuing to contact you for the codes and stuff. I realized it hasn't attached as it is not *.txt so I had it reattached in previous post and now here again.

I have generated one more air.zip just now and I attach that one too, it contains same IP address.

I believe it is because my user name doesn't have any usage enabled? I don't have any server listed on the "access without our client" page. [file name=air-20110415.txt size=456]https://airvpn.org/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/files/air-20110415.txt[/file]

Hello and thank you, we'll look into the issue. EDIT: bug fixed.

Did you get a free access with the code published on Twitter? There are still some available.

Sorry, but I can't seem to find where to input the code available?

EDIT: I found it after picking the 4 days trial, but it's expired already. Sent the request to Sales, will update tomorrow, thanks!

EDIT2:

Got the code (Thanks!) and it seems I connect to server but browser says that connection is refused by the server and I tried to ping Google but destination is unreachable.

It's working! Last problem was with the firewall, service restart was required, duh...

So, thank you very much. I will be buying the service at the expiration of this few more days I have left.

It is working without the client, using Mandrivas GUI and openVPN.

One thing I have to say is, and accept my critique as constructive, is that the service offering is misleading. There is no free use. There is a trial. Or I am wrong?

In any case, thanks, it works. Speed is acceptable and I have what I needed now.

Hello!

Glad to hear that it's working and meeting your requirements. :cheer:

Free access can be for trial or for unconditional free "lifetime" access - the latter is reserved to our discretion (typically it's reserved to activists and persons who live in hostile environments).

Kind regards
