ANSWERED Can't connect anymore with Eddie

Hello, can anybody please say me why I can't connect anymore? I had no problems for many month but doesn't work anymore since yesterday. I already treid to reinstall and a different version of Eddie.I also switched to "IPv4 only" but also didn't help.

Yes, it is related to OpenSSL library (1.1 is now deprecated and perhaps not available anymore in Mint). Please upgrade to Eddie 2.24.6 and also upgrade your OpenVPN package in your Mint distribution:

I installed the experimental version and it works now.

Maybe somebody can tell me still why the other version don't work anymore for me.

And does the experimental have any security issues?

The problem is not Eddie in itself but OpenVPN linked against OpenSSL 1.1.x. libssl 1.1.x is perhaps not available anymore, replaced by OpenSSL 3 library. All recent OpenVPN versions are linked against OpenSSL 3, so the problem is no more.

It has been extensively tested and no critical issue has appeared so far. Of course absence of evidence does not mean evidence of absence. A stable version will be released very soon anyway, a matter of days. If you prefer to run Eddie 2.21.8 you can: just switch to WireGuard (which is not linked against any SSL library) or upgrade OpenVPN in your system and have Eddie use the new OpenVPN binary. You can switch to WireGuard from Eddie's "Preferences" > "Protocols" window. In the new Eddie 2.24.x WireGuard is the new default connection mode and protocol, replacing OpenVPN (which remains available for any necessity).

This may explain a recent problem with my router-based OpenVPN connections.

My older routers (less memory) running older (through summer 2024) dd-wrt builds, using for example OpenVPN 2.6.10 and OpenSSL 1.1.1v, are still successfully connecting to Air servers.  But when I upgrade those routers' firmwares to a recent dd-wrt build (December 2024) that uses OpenVPN 2.6.12 with OpenSSL 1.1.1w, I find they can no longer connect to Air servers over OpenVPN.  The log shows "tls-crypt unwrap error: packet authentication failed."

My newer router (lots of memory) on that newer dd-wrt build uses OpenVPN 2.6.12 with OpenSSL 3.4.0 (takes too much memory for the old routers) and connects to Air servers just fine.

Is this situation explained by the changes at Air you discuss above?  Is there any way that I, as a user without access to dd-wrt source code, can make newer OpenVPN versions paired with OpenSSL 1.1 versions work successfully with Air servers?  Is there something magical I can add to the OpenVPN .conf config, for example?
