ANSWERED Client reporting slow speeds but my speeds are fast?

Recommended Posts

As the title states the Eddie Client is reporting 2-3mbps when i'm downloading while i'm actually doing 30-50MBps.
I'm just being super paranoid and am wondering if the vpn is actually doing it's thing and the client is just misreporting or not.

I checked and according to my ip i am on the server i should be on.

Hello!

It is unexpected. Is "Network Lock" on (if not, please test also with Network Lock enabled)? Which Eddie version are you running? Can you also tell us your Operating System name and version?

Kind regards

Let me try with network lock and I'm running the Latest version of Eddy 2.21.8 on the website.
OS is Windows 10 22h2

*Edit*
I have locked it and now it shows 200mbps and its the same as my DL's it seems to be capped at 200 though i'm using Steam as a test since i know i can hit over 1gbps on it usually
since the lock i can also no longer use citrix

Just Tried again on a different server with the lock and i'm still seeing discrepancies Steam reporting 80MBps while Eddie shows 15-25MBPS. Is there anything else i can try i have an asus router with merlin on it and am willing to do it straight on the router but if i'm going to be capped to 20MBps this is a huge deal breaker...

Hello!

1. Please upgrade to Eddie 2.24.4 beta and test again. By default 2.24.x will use WireGuard to connect (you can change connection mode in "Preferences" > "Protocols" window, but stay with WireGuard to test).
If you still get 200 Mbit/s change WireGuard interface MTU in "Preferences" > "Protocols" window to 1280 bytes. There is no enforced cap on AirVPN, the only limit is the physical limit of server line capacity or the limit of the weakest hop in the route between your node and the VPN server (as usual on the Internet). However, it's not uncommon that residential ISPs apply traffic shaping against specific protocols.

Let's see which performance you get with Eddie 2.24 working with WireGuard and whether the traffic counter is more realistic.

2. In order to access your local network with Network Lock on please check "Allow LAN/private" on Eddie's "Preferences" > "Network Lock" window. However, when using WireGuard you might be unable to reach your local network in any case, because Eddie doesn't set the VPN exclusion routes.

Kind regards

I had engaged wireguard on the previous version and it seemed to have done the trick. I've uninstalled everything and installed the beta version and will see if i see discrepancies in the future.
So far so good. Thanks allots for the support.

It started doing it again. when i initially started the download it seemed to be working properly but as it continued on it Eddie showed a 50 MBps discrepancy and then 3 minutes later it jumped back up to match what Steam was showing.
Now it keeps fluctuating with actually speeds and half of what's actually happening. I'm using Task Manager to monitor and i can clearly see the discrepancies. I'm ok with the speeds being capped as most vpns do but the fact that not all the data is going through the vpn is weird to me.

Hello!

If Network Lock is enabled it must be an Eddie display problem. It's odd because it was not observed before and the data should come directly from system tools measuring the tun throughput. We will investigate, in the meantime you are safe, no traffic is going outside the VPN tunnel, provided that Network Lock is engaged (and that no administrator modifies system's firewall rules, obviously).

Kind regards
